About Owner- Laurie

I've lived in Portland for a few decades and love the inner Southeast Hawthorne area neighborhoods. This is a photo of me kayaking. Great fun on the Willamette River. Kayak rentals and the river are about a 10 minute bike ride from the house on SE 23rd.

Owner- Laurie purchased this house in 2004
Why Owner- Laurie chose Portland

I fell in love with this home because of the natural woodwork, wood floors, nice light, and vintage character. I already knew and loved the Buckman neighborhood. I lived here until recently.

What makes this house unique

People walk in this neighborhood. They walk by with their dogs and even some with their cats. If you like pets you'll get to meet them.

Property is well kept and clean. It has a warm and welcoming lived in feeling that you get from being invited in to someone's home. The owner is very professional and provides great contact. The only downfall of this property is that the beds were a little uncomfortable.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your review. Appreciate the great feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay way back in September, 2010. Re: the beds-- we have one (the king) that is firm and about 1 year old, and one (the queen) that is a genuine tempurpedic, which provides memory foam support and is a different feeling if you aren't used to it. Thanks for choosing us and for submitting your comments. We appreciate it!

We had a very nice stay at Portland. The house was quiet, clean, very well located.
The beds are large and confortables.

The bus pass every 10 min right at the corner.
There is plenty of restaurants, bakery, public market on the corner, etc.

Portland is an amazing city and we hope we will have the chance to go back soon. We will of course stay at Laurie's house.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely comments. As you know, we love having guests from other countries. I'm so glad you enjoyed your first visit to Portland and that we had the pleasure of hosting you on your visit. See you next time!

We stayed here with our 2-year-old while visiting friends in Portland - was great to be able to walk to Hawthorne but still be on a quiet street. The house was much larger than we expected - very comfortable and felt like home right away. The upstairs bedroom is HUGE, with more than enough room for a pack-n-play or crib for a little one. We spent most of our time hanging out in the living/dining area, which was also very kid-friendly. Highly recommended!

We stayed here for a whirlwind trip over the Christmas holiday, but I would absolutely stay here again, with or without my dog! House is pretty spacious and comfortable, and I loved the wood floors and mouldings. Walking distance to restaurants and shops in Hawthorne. Part of a duplex, but we never heard a peep from the neighbours and never had trouble finding parking for two cars right in front of the house. Great experience overall. Dog owners: short (4-5 min) drive to local doggie daycare, which I think was better for both us and the pooch. Also, check on top of the fridge!

Laurie,

I just wanted to write and say a quick THANK YOU! Your place was perfect for the four of us and even if we had come to Portland to find a place before our trip, we wouldn't have have found a more convenient location or better accommodations.

We loved being so close to Hawthorne, the bakery, coffee shops, bus lines, bars....the list goes on. And obviously your home had all the charm and character that "is" Portland. We will definitely be staying with you again when we come back to visit my brother.

Thanks again...
Jeremy

Wonderful Portland

A wonderful property--if you want new--this is not for you--if you want comfortable, clean, convenient--this is a must. A great master bedroom (king bed)--loads of closet space--up stairs and down--wonderful thick towels--fully equiped kitchen and clothes washer and dryer. a short block walk to the Grand Central Bakery--best crossiants this side of Paris--great breads--"The Jam", across the street for a mind blowing breakfast--be early or stand in line and meet the locals--the bus stop is next to the bakery--a super market is 4 blocks away--many good/great places to eat within walking distance or a short bus ride--we did 10 days here without a car--and got around everywhere with a "Honored Citizens" (senior) pass--14 days for $13--best deal in the USA! Don't miss Portland, Oregon--it's the closest thing to New Zealand in the USA--we'll be back--soon---and will stay here again.

Great Place to Stay!

My husband and I, along with our 20 yr old daughter and her girlfriend just spent a week here. The big draw for us initially is that it was close to our new grandbaby. We are so glad we stayed here. Very convenient to have a kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms! The neighborhood is charming, the best part was the bakery at the end of the block. We stopped by there more than we should have! We walked to the Max and took that to the zoo. Portland has a great zoo. We also went to OMSI (within walking distance), and ate out more than we planned - a lot of great restaurants in the neighborhood. The home was very comfortable, clean and pleasant to stay in. I highly recommend it - way better than a hotel!

Owner's Response: Yay! So glad you enjoyed the neighborhood and your stay. The bus access is great too, 1 block away, so if the weather is iffy you can ride to OMSI or MAX or the museum downtown. See you next time, and congratulations on the new baby! --Laurie

We stayed in this house for a month, with our two children and two cats. It had everything we needed, and we really enjoyed our time there. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is good (we actually cooked regularly). The neighborhood is very nice. We had fresh bread almost every day (there is a great bakery one block from the house, in Hawthorne Boulevard). And the landlord, Laurie, is very nice and helped us to get situated, since we were just moving to Portland.
Owner's Response: Thank you, Flavia. Welcome to Portland!
