I would have rated this as excellent if it had a few more amenities; I would rate it Very Good as it is better than just good. Overall, this is a great room, quiet, secluded from the rest of the home, great view of the Goleta coast. Furnishings and linens are upscale and the deck is huge. The room and furnishings were exceptionally clean and well maintained.
Pluses: The owner provided a basket with paperplates, napkins, plastic utensils etc - great idea for those who like to enjoy a glass of wine and light snacks. There is a small refrigerator in the room and the bed was very comfortable. My favorite part was the view from the room out the french doors. It was a windy night so some tiebacks for the doors would have been nice (we used a belt and a tie to hold them open) and the feeling of being outside was incredible. Secure parking near the room which is on the second story and has a nice view. There was a table and four chairs on the deck. There is a second rental unit in the garden which looked very nice from the outside. It was occupied, so we couldn't see the inside, but the shaded porch looked very nice and the occupants also had lawn chairs out on the grass. The owner was very helpful, gave us directions and even offered to drive us down to the bike path. There is a park just below the home (but you can't see it or hear people there) and you can walk down the hill to a short hike along the creek which was very pleasant.
The downside: It was a warm weekend, and there was no umbrella on the deck - although there was an umbrella stand, so maybe it was just not up at the time. The television was quite small and not well located - would have been better mounted on the wall. There is not much surface space - the room is average bedroom size so not a lot of extra space, but the two sets of french doors make it seem larger. The coffeetray took up most of the space on the table - so we had to use the top of the refrigerator for our wine glasses. The owner brought us a bowl of ice, but the freezer wasn't cold enough to keep it from melting - a cooler on the deck with a bag of ice would have been a great compromise.
Overall, this is a wonderful place for a romantic getaway, couples or close friends. I would definitely stay here again. Owner is very accommodating and the area is lovely. I'd love to have had a small bbq on the deck so we could have enjoyed the view and had dinner in. Try Club Soho for music!
