Coconut Cottage is a fantastic beach escape destination on a safe, friendly and secluded Family Island of the Bahamas. It is perfect for honeymooners, families and fishermen.
Coconut Cottage is totally renovated with all new appliances, paint and furniture. The new deck is equipped with a private shower, gas grill, dining table and hotel-quality lounge chairs. Folding lounge chairs are available to take to the beach. Four bicycles are included.
Only steps from the back door is a deserted beach with white sand, crystal blue waters and reefs with world-class snorkeling. View angel fish, stingrays, lobsters and many others. Conch shells and starfish are plentiful. Pick a coconut off the trees on the property. Diving and fishing tours on larger boats can be arranged.
Visit the monument marking the landing of Christopher Columbus, tour the lighthouse and explore the cave.

Diving Paradise

This island is a diving paradise. If you are going to do diving on San Salvador, and not staying at one of the resorts, you definitely need a vehicle. Having the SUV was a must for us on this trip. The roads are a little rough on this island but no problem with the SUV.
The house has been newly refurbished and has a fantastic deck where you can watch the sunset each night (if the no-seeums don't eat you up). Bug spray is a must in the evenings. The outdoor showers were fantastic...we used them to wash diving equipment and shower afer the beach. Wonderful to have two bathrooms in the house too. This is not a luxury house or island, but it was comfortable and met all our needs.
It was wonderful to be able to cook our meals at the house and not eat out 3 times a day. Everything is furnished in the house - well stocked kitchen (pots, pans, seasonings, condiments, etc.). There are several restaurants on the island (two resort (expensive) and some smaller (reasonable) island restaurants).
The "yard" at the house needs some tending (weeds and stickers make it necessary to wear shoes to get to the beach) - which is so private and amazing. We took long walks each evening.
The water on Sal Salvador is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It is clear and blue and amazes you on a daily basis. The diving is extraordinary. We used Club Med for our diving experience and they were very professional. The boats (catamarans) are new and they are on a set schedule each day. The dive masters are wonderful and very helpful, They have over 20 different diving sites - all jaw-dropping beautiful.

Owner's Response: Thanks Denise! We love it down there. I agree about the no-see-ums. However, anytime you can go somewhere this unspoiled by civilization, it is well worth dealing with more of MotherNature's challenges.

Heaven on Earth!

My husband & I visit a different out island each summer. This year we chose San Salvador. It was the best experience we have ever had. The house is clean, comfortable & well furnished. We felt at home. Wayne & Sharon greeted us at the airport, took us to dinner & showed us around. We appreciated their warm welcome. We spent 2 glorious weeks sunning, snorkeling & exploring. We found many areas with great snorkeling & shell collecting. We explored the entire island and met many locals & enjoyed getting to know them. The islanders are very warm & friendly. Most supplies were easily found in neighborhood stores. We fell in love with a "potcake" (island dog) & are trying to adopt her. I doubt we will continue to visit more islands. Hopefully, we will return to San Sal & the house again & again! Best island vacation ever!!!!

Awesome Rental

We had the best vacation. The location was perfect, beach behind the house was perfect and the weather was perfect. Wayne and Sharon answered all our questions and Wayne greeted us at the airport and showed us around. We rented their jeep which was great to go exploring other swimming / snorkeling locations. We also utilizied the bikes which was great to go to the point and other close by locations. Our foot prints were the only ones on the beach. It was amazing. Go to the New Columbus Tavern next door, "B" the owner was informative and a great cook. You could tell him what you were hungry for and he would get it off the fishing boats the next day and prepare it for you. We had mouth water lobster one night, ribs, and conch on other nights. It was great. The people on the island are friendly and we felt safe. We would definitely go back!

We spent two weeks in Coconut Cottage and loved it! It was well equipped, clean, and in a great location. We rented the Jeep Cherokee also, and would recommend this to make your trip even better. There are many nice beaches in the area that are in walking distance, but it is so easy to drive and spend all your energy at the beach snorkeling or swimming. In addition, we would pack a cooler with cold drinks and snacks. You do not need to leave the house to enjoy a beautiful beach though, just steps from the back porch is a beautiful beach we where we enjoyed swimming. The people of San Salvador are friendly and helpful, and we found it to be a very safe island. We spent the majority of our trip snorkeling just to the right or left of the house and were able to see tons of stingrays, a turtle, flounder, cowfish, squid, trigger fish, squirrel fish, pipe fish, puffer fish, and angel fish just to name a few. We also utilized the Riding Rock Resort for our diving needs and found them to be top of the line! The diving close to shore is amazing and only a short boat ride from the harbor, which by the way is only a short drive from the house. We would highly recommend this house! Thank you Sharon and Wayne for answering all our questions, meeting us here, showing us around and getting us settled! You have made this trip fantastic for us. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home! We look forward to renting your home again, hopefully in the very near future.

Fabulous rental

We stayed in this rental for one week and found it to be in an excellent location. The home is completely reburbished with air conditioning, cable television, and wireless internet. The home is next door to a restaurant, the Columbus Tavern, and is within walking distance to a general store. The owners also have a Jeep Cherokee to rent, and this was a much cheaper option than others on the island. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a gas grill on the back patio. The bicycles were nice to ride in the evening around the neighborhood. There were six of us who stayed in the home, and there was plenty of space for us. The home is just a few steps from the beach. We would highly recommend this rental property. It has beautiful decor and all the amenities one needs.
