Photos and Description of the Gettysburg vacation farmhouse rental
3 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths. Sleeps 6

The Alexander Currens Farmhouse (c.1799) is located on the southern end of the Gettysburg Battlefield. In July 1863, it sat in the crossfire between the Union and Confederate troops on the Second Day of the Gettysburg campaign.

The winner of the 2009 restoration award by Historic Gettysburg, Adams County, the house sits quietly today, a 5 minute bike ride from Little Round Top, Devil's Den, and the new Visitor's Center. The house is furnished with comfortable antiques. It has three bedrooms, two with queen size beds and the third with a full size bed. The house has a new kitchen, a quiet study and living room. Every room has its own fireplace, and gas-fired stove. (The house also has central air.) There are two full baths, one with a combined shower/tub, and the other with a deep antique soaking tub. The second floor porch, equipped with comfortable chairs, overlooks the National Park. A brick patio, surrounding the old well, provides a lovely outdoor dining space.

Hopefully a Truly Memorable Experience: We hope we have created a lovely environment for those coming to explore Gettysburg. Relying on our own experience in renting private homes, we have purposefully used very nice linens and mattresses. We have also equipped the house with a nice music, and an extensive video library. A gas light greets you on your arrival.

We also provide complete book with suggested day trips, good restaurants, and other things that will make your stay enjoyable. For those who sew (a family passion of ours) we have stocked the house with Ott lights, a nice sewing machine, and a number of other useful items. We also give you directions to some of the great local fabric stores, many of which sell reproduction civil war materials.

We want your stay to be memorable, so if there is anything else you would need, please -- just ask.

Also,if you are looking to explore Central Pennsylvania, we have a number of historic homes in the area and we offer combined stays among them. Please go to www.poohbiscuitfarm.com for more information on our other properties. We offer stays where you move from one house to another, or the other option is to reserve two houses and bounce back and forth. Call us or email us for more information.

Beautiful home!!!

This home is incredible! From the furnishings to the historic charm, it was an absolutely wonderful get away. We visited Gettysburg for a long weekend with my in-laws; in total there were 7 adults. The house was definitely big enough and we enjoyed the upstairs balcony, overlooking the property. We toured the battlefields using the auto tour CD; we purchased this at the visitor’s center, but later realized the house had copies for guests to use. We ate dinner at Gettysburg Eddie's the first night and it was WONDERFUL! Their french fries were the best we had ever had. The second night we ate at the Blue & Gray Bar & Grill and were a bit disappointed in the lack of charm inside the restaurant, but the food made up for that- very good. On our last night we ate at the Appalachian Brewing Company and almost everyone had the Fish and Chips. Another winner!

The one and only downside to this house is that some of the bedrooms don't have doors. The master bedroom (upstairs) is connected to another bedroom, but there is no door to separate the two rooms, and there is no door to the main bedroom entrance. Since we were all family and it was only 3 nights, we were fine, but the lack of privacy was a little awkward when folks were trying to get ready.

This house was perfect for our family vacation! I would highly recommend working with the owner and the property manager Debbie. Both were extremely nice and made our trip wonderful. You couldn't ask for a prettier setting and better location (only 1-2 miles from downtown; 10 minutes to the outlets). Lastly, the house was immaculate. Everything was clean and tidy and it was such an added bonus to have sheets, towels, and washcloths all provided. Happy visiting!

DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE!!!

This house is the perfect house. From the moment we were introduced to the house by Debbie who is the perfect hostess to the moment we left, there was not a bad moment. First of all it is spotless, not a speck of dirt anywhere. Second, everything is there for you, from blankets to kitchen needs. You are never in need of anything. The house itself just welcomes you. You just get a feeling that the house wants you
to be comfortable! I didnt want to leave. The second floor porch is sublime and our 9 year old loved the yard. Our last morning I sat on the porch with my coffee and saw a cardinal, a bluebird and a woodpecker looking out over the battlefield. It is just a drive to the visitors center. Seriously, if you are looking for a place to stay while visiting Gettysburg, this is the PERFECT stay!

Historical Farmhouse w/ Updated Amenities

We are a group of close friends in our 30s and 40s from New York City and eastern Pennsylvania. We rented this historical home for a four day winter escape. It is within a ten minutes drive to all of the attractions, restaurants, pubs, antique shops and most importantly the battlefields.

We felt like we had stepped back 150 years receiving the full luxury hospitality experience. The kitchen is small but understandable given the age of the residence. The home has a great floor plan for socializing with your housemates. There is a functioning grill for outdoor cooking as well as a gas stove inside. Each room has box heating which not only provides incredible warmth but fireside ambiance. It is only a few yards off the road but the traffic is minimal.

The three bedrooms are beautifully decorated but beware the beds are a bit on the smaller side yet very comfortable. There are two bathrooms: one shower and one bathtub. Wifi and digital cable are available. Every detail of the home's history was taken into account with the renovation. The owner's were very accommodating and responsive. We had no issues with checking in or problems during our stay.

I would certainly recommend this home for a future visit to Gettysburg.

Thanks for Sharing Dreamhouse

Submitted: August 26, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Thank you for sharing your "dream house" with us. I am not sure how you ever left it, as after only one week we are having a difficult time leaving it! ;)
We spent the week doing the perfect combination of sight seeing, Eisenhower house, trip to the Civil War Museums in Harrisburg, Lancaster, walks through the cemeteries. MANY walks through the park/battlefield, and relaxing here, walking the grounds, watering the plants and flowers, which was actually enjoyable and drinking coffee and relaxing on the upstairs balcony...resting, resting, resting!!
Ken is a guitar maker and spent many hours out on theatio working on his present project...a rosewood acoustic guitar. What a peaceful place to work!
We appreciate how well stocked the home is with various amenities.
We hope to come back

This was the perfect getaway for me and my husband. The house is beautiful and in a fantastic location! We were there for only 4 days, but it was the best 4 days we've had in a long time! We agreed we had a better time than we did on our honeymoon! Thank you so much, we'd love to come back sometime!

Lovely and relaxing

We rented this beautiful farmhouse for our family Thanksgiving--it was perfect. We used every room--played cards in the library, soaked in the tub, and relaxed on the upstairs porch which gets the afternoon sun. Although the kitchen is small the owners provided us with extra supplies to help make our Thanksgiving meal a hit. They greeted us at the house with flowers, wine, beer, coffee, tea, and cupcakes! We knew there would be nice touches, but we were overwhelmed with the consideration they took of us.

Our son (17 years at the time) loves to visit houses, and was not disappointed by all that there was to explore--including toys :-). Our 23 year-old daughter loved the time with the family, even though she had to come and go for work in Harrisburg. The drive was pretty and quick to both Harrisburg and Carlisle. It is certainly do-able for exploring further afield.

The house is as described, the amenities plenty. The nearness to the battlefield (the backyard) and the town was a huge bonus--we picnicked nearby after touring the memorials. The owners have provided a copy of the audio tour, so we were able to go across several visits and pick up the tour.

We highly recommend this property. Although we may all return, my parents (in their 70's) are anxious for a summer visit.

A must visit for everyone!

Spent a great fall weekend at the Gettyburg house.
5 min from the Battlefield.
The house itself is a wonder to explore and the amenities are fabulous.
The house is beatifully presented and friendly to visitors.
The town of Gettysburg offered opportunities for fine dining or a quick bite to eat and the battlefield offered an opportunity to visit the past and be come absorbed in sigificance of what took place here in July 1863.
Nothing better after a day of walking and sightseeing then to return to a comfortable home and relax. The yard offers an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and to sit and visit with friends and family.
The peaceful setting at night allows for a great nights rest and with an opportunity to take an early morning walk to the Visitor's Lookout Tower, Devils Den or Little/Big Rountop.

My family and I couldn't ask for a better experience away from home and we recommed a visit to anyone looking to relax, learn, enjoy and rejuvenate.

Hope you have as great a week as we did.
