Nestled into a beautiful forest setting next to the Hatton Canyon, you will find our rustic guest cottage perfect for your Carmel getaway. Everything you need from a weekend to a week, and only a few minutes to downtown Carmel.

The cottage overlooks the canyon and features a beautiful bedroom, bathroom with lovely tile shower, kitchenette and living room with a welcoming corner fireplace. There is also a trundle bed in the living room (converts to two twins or a king width bed) plus three chairs, a flat screen television with DVD player and wireless broadband Internet access.

A gorgeous deck surrounds the cottage with plenty of seating and a barbecue for outdoor enjoyment. Steps lead to the upper deck where a wonderful private outdoor hot tub awaits for special evenings under the stars.

For the active traveler Moonglow offers equipment for hiking, biking, kayaking, tennis, golf and the beach.

Walk or bike out the door to unspoiled Hatton canyon. This is a unique spot for those that enjoy the tranquility of the forest, yet want to be minutes away from Carmel’s beautiful white sand beach and many artistic shops and restaurants.

Complimentary passes to the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium are included!

About Chuck and Diane Elliott

Our romance began in 1961 when Diane came to Carmel to be a 4th grade teacher at Carmel River School. She met Chuck who had just left the Navy's Blue Angels and was enrolled in the Naval Postgraduate School. In 1964 we were married and began a life together. Through the years, as a Navy family, we lived many places, but always returned to Carmel to visit our old friends and to bask in the beauty of the area. Of course, we always wished we had bought a place when we first lived here, and never really thought we would ever live in Carmel

Why Chuck and Diane Elliott chose Carmel

In 2004 we fell in love with Sundance, a rustic and secluded home on a half acre overlooking Hatton Canyon. We immediately bought it, sold our home in Del Mar, and became Carmelites. We love it here and have never looked back. Our family and friends enjoyed staying in the guest cottage, and after our son built a magnificent deck around it we christened it 'Moonglow' and decided to offer it as a vacation rental. As you can see from the guestbook, it has been very popular.

What makes this cottage unique

Moonglow is close to everything in Carmel, the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel Valley and Big Sur, yet secluded and quiet.

From the moment we drove up to this property, we knew we would be staying at a special place. It is set in the wooods overlooking Hatton Canyon, which brings a peace and tranquility to being here. Yet it is a nice walk to the town of Carmel, with all its restaurants, shops and hustle and bustle. We enjoyed using the beautiful deck, which was built by the owners' son. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

Wilderness retreat close to everything

Your cottage in the wilderness was exactly the kind of retreat we needed to relax and enjoy our anniversary. We are from the Central Valley of CA and being able to step outside the patio door surrounded by the lush vegetation and wildlife and take a big breath of clean air was amazing!

We also loved being so close to so many vacation destinations; Cannery Row, 17 mile drive and Carmel village were great places to make new memories.

Thank you for opening your Moonglow cottage to us. We have had a lovely few days and have packed in all kinds of sights: Big Sur, Point Lobos, Monterey, Carmel, 17 mile drive!

Thank you for the wine and the passes to the aquarium. We loved seeing the jellies & the sea horses. I (Linda) have taken lots of pictures of the scenes & wild life & the flowers that are still blooming in profusion. Starting our day in your charming cottage & coming back in the evening was perfect.

We enjoyed our stay in Moonglow, a house with character, an enchanted place matching Carmel’s spirit. With our 2 kids, we were pleased to visit the aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf, Big Sur, and Point Lobos.

Thank you for the sports gear (tennis racquets, bicycles). Just missing a bit more sun over Carmel to enjoy more Moonglow terrace, even so we could relax in the Jacuzzi. And thank you for your warm welcome, Diane & Chuck.

Relaxing in the hot tub
