Beautiful Rocky Mountain Retreat is located halfway between Flagstaff and Williams, AZ at 7500 ft elevation surrounded by 3 secluded acres of tall Ponderosa Pines. This immaculate cabin is beautifully decorated and fully furnished with all the modern amenities. There are 2 bathrooms, one queen-size bedroom, a full-size bedroom and a third room with a bunk bed with a full-size on the bottom and twin on top. There are also a pull-out queen sofa-bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances you could need and full sets of serving and cooking utensils for entertaining. Free high-speed wireless internet is available (hopefully for fun not work :-). There is also a full-size washer and dryer. Hair dryers, curling irons and basic toiletries are included. There are plenty of cozy pillows and blankets and several sleeping bags. You can curl up in front of the stone fireplace and watch the wildlife outside. Rocky Mountain Retreat has all the comforts of home.

Outside the Cabin:: The large wraparound deck is great for outdoor family meals. Then relax with some marshmallows around the campfire or watch the swaying trees or bright stars as you lay in the hammock. Children will love the tree house with slide and hammock, swing sets, horseshoes, or playing basketball in front of the 2-car garage. There is a huge selection of board games, videos and DVDs as well as 3 satellite TVs. Hiking and off-roading trails abound. The Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo and Oak Hill Snowplay area (in winter) are only minutes away. There are several small lakes nearby, as well as the Lava Cave and breath-taking Sycamore Canyon hiking/rock climbing area. The area around our cabin is abundant with elk.

The Area:: Rocky Mountain Retreat offers a true sense of being away from it all, yet the town of and Flagstaff with over 200 restaurants, great night life and shopping is only 20 mins away. The historic Route 66 town of Williams is only 10 mins away, where you can catch the Grand Canyon Railway or Polar Express (in winter). The Grand Canyon is a 45 min drive, and fantastic Oak Creek Canyon/ Sedona is about 30 mins. There are two downhill ski resorts 30 and 45 mins away and a cross country ski trail just a couple minutes away. Snowbowl resort is at 11,500 ft elevation and offers 32 trails of great skiing/snowboarding; in the summer you can take the skyride to the top for panoramic views that include the Grand Canyon, and fantastic hiking. Rocky Mountain Retreat has something for everyone. Why stay in a hotel room or rent a house in a subdivision when you can create the special memories of a real get-away vacation in the cool pines at Rocky Mountain Retreat!

My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our family memories while our kids were still young (the above picture is 13 years after we built our cabin ;). We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We truly enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests.

Dawn purchased this cabin in 1999

We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the convenient chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!

Often things just don't turn out the way you plan, but not this time! Three kids, two parents, my wife and I all fell in love with this cabin. You are out and away from nearly everyone. The kids could run and explore all day long, until the fire pit beckoned them to make s'mores. We saw the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Oak Creek Canyon, Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, and saved the best for last. Just 11 miles up the road is a cool under-ground lava tube hike. We ate it up! We honestly could not have had a better time, a better cabin, or a better location. Dawn gave us clear instructions, a fun welcoming gift, and our best vacation ever. Deserves every 5 star rating she gets! Thanks Dawn!

It was such a wonderful atmosphere to spend quality time with my family. I thoroughly enjoyed the board games that my children were playing, instead of their noses stuck in an ipod. The fire pit allowed for wonderful, quality conversations and smores. The place was great for my kids and us adults. I hope to go back again real soon. Thank you very much for allowing us to enjoy your cabin.

Winter family vacation

Our party consisted of my son, his wife, our 2 grandchildren (ages 4 & 7), my other adult son, my wife and I. We stayed 3 nights and visited Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon and Sedona. The home was very clean and appointed just as the description and pictures indicated. Dawn was a gracious host; full of information about the locale and things to do and see in the area. She even left a welcome basket that came in handy for making "smores" by the outdoor fire we enjoyed one night. We wished for more snow so we could take advantage of the sleds provided and the hilly terrain, but we really enjoyed the sunshine and mild temperatures on all of our side trips. Our one issue (the reason for 4 stars and not 5) is the master bed. It was extremely soft and kept my wife and I from sleeping together. We will definitely make a return stay assuming the master bed issue is addressed.

This was our first time staying at a cabin. And it was awesome! We were secluded but not to far from a local store if we needed anything. It felt like home away from home. Dawn was available to answer any questions we had before our arrival. She had all of the contact info for us in case we needed it from plumbers to snow plowing. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for welcoming us with the snacks, and wine and for a great weekend!

My family had a wonderful time in this home. Winter activities right outside the door, warm and toasty inside. Lots of windows to enjoy the beautiful surrounding without getting your feet wet! The house is remote enough to feel secluded, but with a few surrounding neighbors, you do not feel totally isolated. We ill definitely return!

The cabin was beautiful and super-clean! We loved the grounds -- there was so much to do without going anywhere - the kids enjoyed the tree house and the play equipment, and we all enjoyed the trees, the hammocks, the swing and the horseshoes. The kitchen was well-equipped - we had everything we needed. Thank you!

We enjoyed the place a lot. Thanks Dawn for the wine, we really celebrate 4 occasions. We have a little detail that could be fix, your addresses sign needs to be outside. Anyway we love the place. We were happy to have a chance to see the Grand Canyon, and Sedona is beautiful as well. Thanks for the snacks too.

This was our first home to stay in on our trek out west to California. We wanted to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona but did not want to stay in a hotel. We found this to be the perfect location. It was close to our sites yet far enough away to relax and unwind. The cabin is located in the woods and is very private. We were also impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was. My kids loved exploring in the woods and roasting smores. Thanks Dawn for letting us stay. If we are ever in the area again we would love to stay at your cabin in the woods!
