CENTIPEDES-BY THE HUNDREDS
DEPARTED 2 DAYS EARLY DUE TO INFESTATION OF CENTIPEDES!!! Within 24hrs of arriving we were completely overwhelmed by the number of centipedes. I sent a text to the owner which of course went unanswered-however when we sent the text we had left the cabin he called to inquire about problems. There were so many centipedes that the floor CRUNCHED when we woke up in the morning and walked to the light switch. We had to make a trip to the local Wal-Mart to purchase slippers to wear in the house to avoid stepping on the centipedes with our bare feet. We rented this particular cabin because it was pet friendly but unfortunately our small dog could not walk around the house due to the number of centipedes. The centipedes were not isolated only to the floor as we found them on the second floor crawling through our luggage as well ---this resulted in spending 4 hours washing three loads of laundry. We would have left much sooner had I been able to locate another pet friendly option on short notice. I wrote this review to help other families avoid having their vacation ruined by the fact that the house is infested with centipedes-we took photos but this site doesn't accommodate guests photos. The owners reside in Illinois and have a cleaning staff service the house which obviously don't communicate issues with the owners.
Owner's Response: We would like to say, we do our best to please our customers. During the 4 years we have owned and rented this cabin, this is the first negative comment that we have had.
Just before a renters' arrival, we instruct them to call if there are any questions/issues and leave Mark's number; he does not text. If they had called, we would have addressed the issue immediately. The centipede issue had just reared it's ugly head, and we had had an exterminator out twice. We thought we had the problem taken care of. We have a had an exterminator out once again, and things seem to be back to normal. Bugs thrive in the Smoky Mountains, and it is very difficult to keep them at bay.
We did try to call the renters, but they did not answer and have not returned our call. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but feel this could have been resolved with a phone call as specified in the initial instructions.
