AS always, this was a wonderful trip back to Lansing. This unit is wonderful for those traveling to the Chicago or Northwest Indiana area. It is close to public transportation and has easy freeway access. It's kid friendly. And it is in close proximity to all the amenities needed for a trip.
Owner's Response: Thanks for another great review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Come back anytime.

Immaculate and all the essentials

This was the perfect "home away" for our Chicago/Lansing stay. The home was immaculate and soooo comfortable. We needed something close to a client for a business trip, and so much better than a hotel for a week. There was plenty of space to work on evening reports, relax with the TV (or a choice of movies), and cook our meals. The kitchen was so well equipped we only ate out one night and what a joy to have a washer and dryer. We were thrilled after a night of snow to step out and find the car cleaned off and the driveway cleared. Certainly not expected but more than welcome. We Floridians made a panic buy of an ice scraper the night before at the nearby Walgreens. That reminds me, so much is close by and convenient for shopping or entertainment. Thank you Cindy, for making our stay so pleasurable.
Owner's Response: So glad the house worked out for you. You were great guests and are welcome back anytime although I bet you would rather be in Florida. Can't blame you. Hope to have you back.

Beautiful house in great location

We were a party of four and stayed two nights over a weekend. This home is in an excellent location in the town of Lansing, Illinois. Downtown Chicago was only about 25 minutes away by car at the weekend. It may be a bit longer during the rush hour traffic. We were visiting from Ireland and found this area to be typical Americana. Lansing is a delightful town. There are a good selection of shops, supermarkets and restaurants within the immediate area. The home was very spacious and spotlessly clean and well maintained. There are two good sized bedrooms and also a large fold out sofa bed in the lounge. We made the reservation at quite late notice but the owner Cindy made all the arrangements without any trouble. She communicated very quickly by e-mail. We did not actually meet Cindy, but we were there at the weekend. She sounded like a very nice lady and was extremely helpful. If you are visiting Chicago or this part of Illinois, I would certainly recommend this home as a vacation rental. You will not be disappointed.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review and so glad you enjoyed your time at our home. You were great guests to have - hope we can accommodate you again in the future.

Best location, amazing friendliness and service

It was a perfect retreat for our family of four with everything we needed close by. We really appreciated the laundry facilities. Shopping and eating were all close and convenient in downtown Lansing or across the border in Indiana (Target, Jewel Foods and a great farmer's market on the same boulevard). Access to the toll roads and interstates was easy. Nearby is a cargo rail train route that can be heard when they whistle at the crossing and the businesses and school activities nearby (a school and daycare) are a part of the location's background vibe. This is a suburban setting. There are a lot of feelings of comfort and of home in the details of the space. We enjoyed a month of visiting, having guests and our own cozy summer nights with the sounds of the secadas in the great old tress around the property. The owners were very gracious and even went out of their way to help when I had an ear infection and needed medical attention.
I'm a native of the South Side of Chicago we rented this property while back from Europe visiting my family- who are all over the suburbs, city and eastern Indiana area. We spent amazing summer days on the dunes of Lake Michigan (Beverly Shores, reachable by train as well as car-30 min.) We were downtown by car (30 min. on 94 north when traffic was good no toll payments from this location) and by train with larger groups of family from the Calumet stop. Getting to train stations may require taxi or car from this location. If you enjoy a self-planned holiday in Chicago I definitely recommend this cozy space. Getting a Chicago City pass to all the museums and Tower Skydeck is a great bargain if you plan to stay a week or two.
My family who lives in the area were really glad we found such a special space and often came to visit us there. Thank you very much C. T. and J. T. This house made our time there immensely special. We'll be booking it for our next long stay-a great home away from home.
Owner's Response: You were a great family to have as guests and so happy that your enjoyed your stay. Just a heads up for next time: there is a bus right across the street that runs during the week and takes you to the train station in Heigewisch (South Shore).
Thanks for the great review and for leaving the house so perfectly. We hope to have you again real soon.

Perfect Little Home in the Middle of Everything!

We came to visit our family who lived in the city, and found that the commute back and forth was very good! The city of Lansing was quite a pleasant surprise; gave us an idea of what life in Americana is all about. The area itself is littered with day cares for kids, speaking as to how the area as a whole is all about.

Lots of food and shopping all around, even if you don't have a car.

The house itself is very nice, very clean, and very homey. Any amenity that you can possibly think of is included: laundry, internet, telephone, working appliances, etc. During our stay we also had to extend and ended up staying at a hotel for a couple of days since the house wasn't available, and we immediately felt the difference! We felt more at home and at peace in the house than in the hotel!

The one little thing that bothered me (although it didn't seem to bother anyone else in our party) is that I need it to be completely dark to go to sleep. The light hits through even with all the window treatments closed. But as my wife pointed out, all I had to do was walk over to Walgreens and grab myself a shade.

Looking forward for our next trip to Lansing!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. Glad to hear that the location and home worked for your trip to the States. You were wonderful guests and great Blackberry jam makers! yyuuuuummm. The soap is also wonderful - I use it everyday. Thanks again. Hope your trip home was a safe one.

fantastic home and owners

My daughter and I rented this property. The decision was to remove ourselves from the usual hotel environment and get in touch with a real American community. We were very fortunate to find Cindy and John and their property. I fell in love with the place as soon as I arrived. The house was beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated and oh did I adore the kitchen! I found the owners to be happy to assist us even though they have very busy lives – so thank you. The railroad can be heard but that is part of the charm staying in a smaller place and you do get used to it. Also you can hear the children from the daycare centre, however hearing happy children at play to me was delightful. The location is near the main road which is fantastic as there is a bus that goes to Hegewish train station that takes you to Chicago to meet the train and back in rush hour. We both do not drive so this service was a bonus. Ok it does not run at the weekend so that gave us a great opportunity to get to know Lansing and Munster. You would have to enjoy walking or bikes to get the full benefit of seeing the locality but there are shops nearby Walgreens, deli, Chinese takeout and Burger King to name a few. Also there is a really good farm shop selling local produce, which encouraged me to cook. When not in Chicago we went for brunch at Bakers Square Restaurant on more than one occasion and would recommend it, especially if you like pie. There are plenty of shops in Lansing and Munster and really enjoyed shopping at Osco Jewels Supermarket. I found everyone very friendly in Lansing and also very helpful. We had a delivery of takeout from Johnny K’s and would seriously recommend the rotisserie chicken meal, especially with a side of Greek potatoes, mmm delicious. The home felt like home for the time we were there and the location is perfect so much so we are hoping to return later in the year. Our vacation was perfect because of the hospitality laid on by the owners and cannot praise them enough. You have a lovely home and thank you for letting us stay there..

Family trip to Blues Fest

We had a very nice 3 night stay. The home was great and met all of our expectations, with plenty of room for 5 adults and a baby. We took the metra into Chicago both Saturday and Sunday. There are several stations you can go to within 5 miles and you can buy $7 weekend passes right there. We got off at the Van Buren stop and we were practically right there at Blues Fest! My daughter and I went to the grocery store and bought all the food, so we didn't have to spend money in restaurants. We packed the cooler with sandwiches etc. for the time we spent at Grant Park. It was SO MUCH better than staying at a hotel! I'm not sure if under ammenities they mentioned a fire pit, but we found one along side of the grey garage, so we used it Sunday night. It may have belonged to the church next door, but we put it back where we found it. We had a great family weekend! Hopefully, they didn't make too much noise around the fire pit Sunday night. Since I'm a lightweight, I went to bed!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. By the way the firepit was for your use - glad you found it and used it. Noise was not a issue - never even heard you. You were great guests and we hope to have you back again. Can't believe you even washed the sheets! - that's a first. I realized after you left that there were no sheets in the ottomans for the sofabed. Hope this didn't effect your stay -if the sheets are not there next trip, please let me know.

Great House for Touring the Whole Area

5 of 5
Submitted: April 28, 2011 Stayed: April 2011
We had a great week in the Chicago area staying at this house. The house was just as described and we would recommend it to anyone who wanted to see the whole area, not just the downtown area of Chicago. It was very close the interstate and it was easy to get anywhere driving, though it took time to get places. A grocery store and restaurants are a short drive away. We went to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, as well as into the city. The subway station is not close, so driving places was easier. We brought our 5 children, aged 1 to 13 (we brought a playpen for the baby to sleep in). The table easily sat all 7 of us and there were enough chairs too. It was nice to have laundry facilities in the basement. The owner provided great service. The first night, we accidentally dropped something down the bathroom sink. I called the owner and she had it fished out the next day, after calling us to get our permission to enter the house. The day we went to a Chicago Cubs game was only 45 degrees and the owner let us take 2 blankets from the house to help stay warm (we needed them!). The house is in a business area with not many houses around. We heard the train, but it did not bother us. There is a church on one side of the house and a daycare on the other side. The steps to get in and the way the doors swing would make it difficult for anyone with mobility difficulties. It was great for our family and is definitely worth the money.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. You sure did cover alot of ground in the area while you were here. My hat is off to you getting everyone out the door so early everyday. Glad you had a good time even though the weather wasn't our normal Spring weather. Thanks for taking such good care of the property and leaving so it so neat.

Great place: close enough without being in Chicago

My wife and I found the house to be very comfortable with everything we needed. It is close enough to Chicago to be able to go in for a day or two's site seeing, without having to battle with busy city traffic and noise. However, there is a train line close to the house and so we did hear the trains every few hours ... and during the day there is some noise from the nearby nursery school when the kids are playing outside - but neither bothered us that much.
The only criticism is that there is only one TV in the house so my wife had to suffer a lot of Football and Baseball, when normally I watch these while she watches a film.
The owners are very very nice and helpful, and we would have no problem renting the house again if we find ourselves vacationing in the Chicago area.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind and informative review. As a wife that is not a avid sports fan (although I am in a pool which makes it worth checking the scores), I can feel for the problem. I promise your next stay will offer 2 televisions. Haven't come up with solution to the trains and the children but glad you found the home comfortable. It is our goal to please our guests in the comfort department. Hope you will consider us in the future for your Chicago visits!

We were lucky enough to find homeaway.com through a TV commercial. Stayed in Lansing for a week to visit friends and family. This house is perfect for visits home to "da Region" including Northwest Indiana. Beats staying in a hotel and is perfect for that visit to a relative's graduation, wedding, etc. Even though it was hot and humid outside, we were comfortable inside. And it's located close to shopping, etc. Everything you could want was in the house, including laundry facilities. Plus Cindy is a generous hostess, ensuring her guests are very comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the southeast side of Chicago or Northwest Indiana.
