Longer drive from airport then expected. Had a great stay in very rural area. Used the house for day trips exploring area and close swimming and snorkeling. Oceanview is closest store 15 to 20 minute drive. Myself and 3 teens had a great stay.

We spent the week of Thanksgiving 2012 at the Sound of the Whale and had a wonderful visit. There were 5 in our family and the house was perfect. My inlaws were able to have their own personal space in the downstairs and my husband and our son were in the upstairs. It was slightly cloudy during our visit but we were able to enjoy a very beautiful sunset and you can see why they call that area 'where the sun meets the ocean' because it truly does. The communication, maps, and information was fabulous from the owners and really helped in the planning process. We really enjoyed the accessibility to the snorkel gear and the owners truly thought out some of the little details at their property which may our stay so delightful. Neighbors were very friendly and just a great place to stay. The home was so clean and inviting. One of our favorite places was the southernmost bakery located about 45 minutes south of the house for their malsadas. If you are looking for a beautiful house that is off the beaten path in a quiet area, this is the place for you.

We have just returned from a 10 days in Hawaii with 6 nights at Sound of the Whale. It was a home base for our fist visit to the Big Island. While not centrally located, it is within driving distance of most main attractions and many beautiful beaches. We found the house to be very clean and well maintained and equipped. The owners provided clear instructions and directions to local places of interest.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable home base for a peaceful vacation away from the regular tourist haunts.

We stayed here several years ago when the pool was being put in and the property was brand new. we were one of the first renters. All we can say is that it is one of the most beautiful rentals where we have ever had the opportunity to stay. The pictures are beautiful, but the home is even more outstanding. It is well furnished with eveything you need. The view off the covered lanai is breathtaking. The owners were awesome and took care of everything that we needed. We are coming for a month this fall and unfortunately waited to late to book, they are full for our time. maybe next time. You will not be disapponted. It is a wonderful place for beauty, rest, and relaxation!

We really enjoy stayed at Sound of Whale,. Great place to relax with the family and young children. Everything was perfect and the pool, WOW! Milolii is perfect place to explore South Island and Volcano.

We spent a week in this beautiful house. The ocean view was great, as were the pool and the house itself. The house has everything you could need. We loved the layout and the high ceilings and all the interior woodwork. Be sure to feed the birds. The Saffron finches are gorgeous. Homolino beach is great, especially for snorkelling. The snorkelling at the north end of Millolii Beach community is also wonderful, and access into the water was easy. Just be aware, this spot is fairly isolated, which for us was perfect. We didn't mind driving 20 to 30 minutes to explore lther beaches. Some folks might prefer staying nearer to "the action" around Kailua Kona. For those seeking a more relaxing and peaceful vacation, with all the comforts of home PLUS an incredible view of the ocean, The Sound of the Whale is perfect.

Home is one of the nicest in a neighborhood which is in a small valley of old LAVA rocks. First glance of the neighborhood reveals a feeling that you just landed in a little fishing village on the moon. This house is within 30 miles either north or south of very fun activities; but there is actually not much to do in the neighborhood itself other than lounge in the pool. This is a destination for Peace and Quiet lovers...unless you want to drive into town which is another world entirely.

We had the privilege of staying in this beautiful home in quiet, tucked away Milolii. The house is absolutely perfect. All we needed was food and drink, everything else is provided. The ocean view and sunset were magnificent! And the pool...heavenly.
