This wonderful, 7-yr old house is less than 250 yards from the public beach access. It has 8 bedrooms (including 4 Kings), 6 1/2 baths, and can sleep 19 in beds. The kitchen, living room and main master are on the 3rd floor and have great views. The house has a private pool, which can be heated in the spring and fall. The dual, heated outdoor shower with Poly-Wood decking is convenient for rinsing off after returning from the beach.
New, as of June 2013, we remodeled the main living room to accommodate a wall-mounted 70-inch LED Internet-connected Smart TV. We also upgraded the TV in the 2nd living room to a 46' Smart TV. All 8 bedrooms have flat screen HD TVs, several of which are Smart TVs. An elevator serves every floor (not the case in all houses with elevators). We provide free, secure 15MB high-speed wireless internet so you can stay connected. There are ceiling fans and tile floors throughout, and a fully stocked kitchen
Wrap-around decks on each level offer great views of the ocean and sound. Also new as of May 2013, we have added new Poly-Wood club chairs and tables to the 3rd floor deck. This house is ideal for large family gatherings, multi-family vacations, and church retreats.
What to Bring: A complete linen package is provided for all of our Summer guests. In the off-season, the linen package is available for $270. We do not provide beach towels or other beach gear. However, you can pack a little lighter, as we provide an all-terrain Radio Flyer wagon, Wheeleez Beach Cart, and rolling cooler for transporting kids, beach chairs, and beverages, respectively, to and from the beach.
Amenities: The house has a private pool which can be heated for a surcharge of $40/day or $250/week.
The pool area has 6 reclining (flat) lounge chairs for sunbathing, as well as two tables and 6 non-reclining chairs for pool-side dining. We provide a number of pool toys and floats. The second and third level decks also have tables and chairs for outdoor dining or relaxing.
In addition to a collection of DVDs, the house has a Netflix account which can be accessed via the 4 Smart TVs.
The large kitchen is well stocked with service for 20. It is equipped with stainless steel appliances, including smooth-top stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, 2 coffee makers, blender, dishwasher, and refrigerator/freezer with ice maker and filtered water. There are plenty of pots, pans, casserole dishes, mixing bowls, muffin pans, etc. Several guests have commented that the kitchen is better stocked than theirs at home.
The house is also equipped with a washer and dryer, as well as an iron and ironing board. There is a clothes line in the carport for hanging wet beach towels and bathing suits.
Recreation: Of course, the main attraction is the beach and building sand castles and collecting shells. Our house also has its own private pool (can be heated for a surcharge of $40/day or $250/week). On the island, there is a miniature golf course and tennis courts. You can also rent bicycles or charter a fishing trip. The Museum of Coastal Carolina is also located on the island.
Just off the island, you can find go-cart racing and more miniature golf. Silver Coast Winery is only 15 minutes from the island and offers tours and tastings. Myrtle Beach is only 45 minutes away and has everything from water parks to outlet malls to the NASCAR Speedpark. It is also home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Texas Rangers' Class A minor league baseball team.
We are at the dead end of a lightly traveled street, so bike riding is a safe activity. Inside, there are toys and board games and a PlayStation 3.
There are many great golf courses within 15 minutes and over 100 in a 40 mile radius of OIB.
Restaurants: There are a number of restaurants on the island, and more on the mainland. We do have a few favorites. For dinner, Roberto's, just off the island, is our favorite. The Bang-Bang Shrimp makes a great appetizer. The fish is always wonderful, and the Fillet Mignon is hard to beat. The pizza is so good we often have them prepare 2 that we freeze and bring home. Roberto's also has a full bar.
Calabash, the 'Seafood Capital of the World,' is only 6 miles from OIB. For dinner, we love The Boundary House. Capt. Nance's offers the typical fried fish, shrimp and hush puppies, and the prices are decent.
For breakfast, we like Sarah's in Sunset Beach. Our other favorite is the Purple Onion Cafe in Shallotte which has giant pancakes, blueberry biscuits and fantastic raspberry croissants. If you need a caffeine fix, OIB Surf and Java is just off the island and Jumpin Java is in Shallotte, and both have coffee, baked goods and smoothies.
Always fun are The Giggling Mackerel with its rooftop Tiki Bar and Sharkey's, both on the island just before the bridge. The Sugar Shack is highly regarded for its Jamaican cuisine, but call ahead because it is usually crowded.
Be sure to check out the link to our website with a 360 degree tour of the house . (Note that the pictures on that site were taken in 2009 and do not reflect the current furnishings. The 360 degree tour is scheduled to be updated in June. The pics on this HomeAway listing are current.)

My wife and I, along with our sisters, bought this house in July, 2009. Across 4 families, we have 7 children ranging from 11 years to 2 years -- and they are all boys! We are avid sports fans, and represent Bruins (Belmont U.), Demon Deacons (Wake Forest), and two breeds of Bulldogs (Georgia and Mississippi State). (Please don't hold any of these affiliations against us!) We live in Athens, GA with the others currently residing in Atlanta and Huntsville AL.
Since July 2009, many family vacations have been spent here making improvements. We have enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas with extended family at this house, so we know that it accommodates large groups well. We hope that our guests enjoy it as much as we do.
Because we have young children, we have tried to make it as kid-friendly as possible, and to provide several things not found in most rentals: a portable crib, full-sized high chair, safety gate, cabinet locks, pool floats and wagons. Our hope is that these items will allow our guests with young children to pack lighter.

We fell in love with this property because the 8 bedrooms allow our extended family to gather in one place several times each year. It is so relaxing to enjoy breakfast on the deck while taking in the fantastic ocean view. And the house is so close to the beach that we were able to sell our golf cart.
Several features set our house apart from most of the others at OIB. First, it is close to the beach and has a great ocean view. The elevator is helpful for bringing in luggage and groceries, and also for the family members who have trouble with stairs. It is one of only a handful of houses on OIB that has a private heated pool. Finally, the house has 8 bedrooms, including 4 king suites.
