The Bunkalow, as the name suggests, is a bungalow cottage combined with a detached bunkhouse. The bungalow sleeps up to 5 and the bunkhouse sleeps an additional 6 persons. The bunkhouse and bungalow must be rented as one unit. The bunkhouse includes a 1/2 bathroom and the bungalow includes one full- (with shower) and one half-bathroom. We have also added a private deck shower that I personally use every time I shower at the property! (Check our reviews - everyone seems to love the deck shower)

The bungalow has a roomy and open floor plan with one full bath and one half bath, a wood-burning fireplace, and a HUGE deck on Hamlin Lake. The bunkhouse also includes a large screen TV and killer sound system. Launch your boat 5 minutes away at Wilson Hill Park (see VRBO map)and dock at the seawall right in front of our property. Boat over to the dunes and have a blast! Free high speed wireless internet, unlimited long-distance phone, and top 100 channels of Charter cable TV with DVRs on each TV. You will not be disappointed with this cottage/lake experience. Check the user reviews on VRBO. We have not had one bad review!

About The Owner

Why The Owner chose Ludington

Nothing beats vacationing on the water.

What makes this house unique

Water, water, everywhere. What's really cool about Hamlin Lake is that it borders Lake Michigan and Ludington State Park, which means you can boat to the Park and walk to the sandy white beaches on Lake Michigan. Or, you can drive 10 minutes by car and be on the beach. Also, Hamlin Lake is divided into two distinct regions, Upper and Lower, which typically means that if the water is too rough from wind on one part of the lake, you can go to the other part of the lake and it will be much calmer.

we had a great time at the bunkalow property. The home was fairly clean and well stocked with all the required kitchen utensils,it has an excellent view of Hamlin lake . The bungalow was a great place for my children to hang out during the down times. after figuring out the home entertainment system it was great! The home is in a great location, very close to downtown and Lake Michigan,The deck does need to be power washed and some areas needed to be cleaned a little better but overall a great time.

We had a wonderful vacation at the bunkalow. The house and bunkhouse are very well maintained and comfortably fit 11 people for the week. The kitchen had all the supplies we needed to bake and cook for our group. The bunkhouse and deck shower were especially fun for the kids. Some of our cell phones didn't work out there but with the home phone provided and wireless access we were all able to communicate as needed. The property was so spacious. The kids had lots of room to play in the yard and the adults had space to sit and relax. There was 3 tables so we could all eat out on the deck. The kids had a great time fishing right off the sea wall. We also rented a pontoon for the week from Barnharts which was so close to pick up and drop off the boat. We took the pontoon over to the state park, to the sand dunes, enjoyed rides around the lake and took it over to Barnharts for dinner. The property was close enough to town to be able to go in for groceries as we needed them. The property owner and manager were very friendly and helpful and answered all questions we had. We would recommend this property to everyone.

We have vacationed on Hamlin Lake many times and the Bunkalow is probably the cleanest, most comfortable place we've stayed. We had two sets of grandparents and two families with tweens & teens, so it was fabulous to have three bathrooms and two showers. Having the washer/dryer there was a nice convenience, too. The kitchen was great - just about every appliance and gadget we needed was already there. Good location on the lake, nice, flat property, plenty of chairs around the fire pit, and the deck was awesome. We spent a lot of time out there hanging out and playing games. The only suggestion I would make is to add a few window air conditioners in the main house. It got pretty steamy in there. I will recommend this place to others and would definitely come back.

What a perfect week our family had on Hamlin Lake. The house had everything we needed, all the pictures, reviews and details on the website that we used to make our decision to stay here were well beyond accurate. The location of the property on upper Hamlin Lake is in a great spot, easy access to all the beaches and dunes with the pontoon boat we rented. I called the property manager before we arrived asking random questions about the place and he was more than helpful answering them and giving some tips and ideas as well. The deck and yard were big and spacious as advertised. Plenty of room in the bunkhouse and the main house, we had 6 adults and 2 kids in our party. We visited downtown, the childrens musuem (which was fantastic), watched the Badger take off into the sunset from the lighthouse pier, drove into Ludington State Park and swam in Lake Michigan riding the waves in our inner tubes, fished, and relaxed a lot on the beautiful beaches soaking up the sunshine. Only problem we had was finding a boat to rent. I called 3 weeks prior to our trip and luckily the last place on my list had one left for us. So I'd recommend calling a lot earlier than we did. We rented it for the week which was well worth it, used it everyday except one. We were glad in our decision to rent this house as opposed to a resort cabin or cottage and staying in a complex. The price was good, well worth it for the week and its so much nicer staying at your own place, so to speak. The neighbors were friendly and having your own view off the dock looking out on the lake was perfect. Thanks Andy, and thanks as well for answering all our questions when we first called regarding the place. We will be back!

What a great location! We had a wonderful week of relaxation at the The Bunkalow. The kids enjoyed the spacious yard (many corn hole games and even a tournament!) We all enjoyed the great view of the lake and the swimming. We could dock right on the property which was a great asset. There was enough room so we weren't stepping on each other's toes, yet it was an intimate setting for everyone to be close. We loved the campfires at night, swinging on the porch swing next to the water, and of course still having internet access for those of us who needed to touch base with work. Great week - thanks Andy!

The Bunkalow - Year 2

Another great year at the Bunkalow for our girls' get away week. We shopped, dined, did a few crafts, read, etc. etc. etc. We liked the new deck chairs and the "fishy" hooks in the bunkhouse. The shower on the deck got a lot of use. Great addition to the ambiance. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. In fact, we've already reserved for 2013.

Fabulous Family Vacay!

Our stay in Murray's Bunkalow was wonderful. Our family included parents, children, and grandchildren. The setting and grounds were perfect for everyone, young and old. Grandma could sit comfortably and see all the action from all directions. The lake was beautiful, and was conducive to a pontoon rental and plenty of fishing. We had plenty of room for sleeping, movie night, and for large family meals together. The location was perfect for getting away, yet it was close enough to town that we could go out for a meal, do some shopping, or head to Ludington Beach on Lake Michigan! We hope to return soon, it was a vacation we will treasure always. Thanks so much!!!

We just returned from an enjoyable week at the "bunkalow". Our daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons ages 5 and 3 from Chicago area joined us for the week. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. It was nice having two separate units for sleeping. The kitchen was well equipped and having the washer and dryer was a plus. The outside shower house was a favorite for the boys.
We brought our own boat and were glad to have a tire on the sea wall to help out our bumpers. The week's weather consisted of many windy days 25+ mph gusts and thunderstorms. The fishing was very disappointing but undoubtedly due to the weather conditions. However the boys (joint effort) caught a 15 in. Bass off the sea wall. That was a thrill a thrill for them.
We enjoyed having campfires with hotdogs and s'mores. A lot of time was spent on the double swing overlooking the Lake.
With temperatures reaching the low 90's the bunkhouse became very warm. I'd suggest bringing fans. There was a small one but was not working. There are working ceiling fans.
Ludington is a very quaint town with a lovely waterfront park. We enjoyed walking out to the lighthouse and watching the Ferry coming in to dock. The beaches and water were absolutely beautiful.
Many wonderful family memories were made, thanks a lot!

If you're looking for a quiet place for your family, that includes homestyle lodging, clear & clean waters that have plenty of fish to eat, then the Bunkalow certainly fits that requirement. We've just finished our 2nd year at this location and thoroughly enjoyed our family time.
