Good for Frat Party
Location (great), bedding, appliances, dishes and most cookware as advertised.
ENTRY: black mold on front steps.
FRONT PORCH: screen door, screen frames and hardware extensively rusted, floor paint peeling and missing in areas, holes in screens, lampshades water stained.
PROPERTY: one third of backyard occupied by old garage with no doors and hole in roof.
HOUSE: front door appears to have light coat of paint over mold, some walls scuffed and need painting, linoleum floor in bathroom cracked and peeling, fluctuating hot/cold water when showering in front western bathroom,
light/fan with no pull cords (if our son-in-law weren't 6'5" we couldn't have the fan on without the light), hanging broken window sash cord, windows fall back down when it is possible to open them, burned out bulb in living room lamp, rusted registers with no way to control air flow, western bedrooms hot while eastern bedroom cold, broken slat in window shades, septic problems prevent use of garbage disposal, some living room furniture past well worn.
SERVICES: No linen rental available, none of three secured wireless networks listed for property even showed up as options. Unsecured network from area available.
SUPPLIES: these starter items have been present at every other rental we have used - except this one: dish drying rack, hair dryer, dishwashing and laundry detergent, bathroom soap, coffee filters or any condiment of any kind (salt, pepper, sugar, etc.), welcome book with suggestions and instructions (two pages pasted to refrigerator), broom (sopping wet on exposed back porch). There were paper towels in the kitchen and one roll of toilet paper in each of the bathrooms.
INSUFFICIENT BUT SUPPLIED WHEN REQUESTED: hangers (about three per closet originally) and kitchen linen which was supposed to be there. We were given two dish towels and one dish cloth.
SINGLE ISSUE: Nearly empty propane tank for grill required us to purchase our own for our Thanksgiving turkey. Owner reimbursed us for tank, most of which we were leaving behind, after her daughter encouraged her to do so.
MISSED OPPORTUNITY: this cottage could be a hidden jewel if repaired and appreciated for what it could be - and if its renters were treated as personal guests. We loved Folly Beach, the cottage's location, it's layout and it's flow. It's a shame it has been allowed to deteriorate so. "Old" can be the most special thing around.
Pictures and a local vendor will support most of the above.
Owner's Response: Thanks, I've called out the work crews.
Have a nice holiday,
