The Governor's House is situated on the highest point in Lee County, Florida, on the gorgeous island of Useppa, offering 360 degree views of the entire island, ocean and neighboring islands.
The house is built on three levels, featuring a large Master Bedroom with high vaulted ceilings and a very large and intimate balcony that both overlook all sides of the island. The Master Bedroom's signature bed and colonial decoration make this room most comfortable and enjoyable. The room is equipped with a TV. Just below the Master Bedroom are two rooms, one with a king size bed, a desk, phone and internet DSL connection, the other with a trundle bed and two cribs, perfect for your youngest guests. The lower level has three bedrooms, two of which have queen size beds (one with a TV) and one that has two bunk beds thus enabling four children to sleep comfortably. A den is also found at this level with a TV, pull-out-couch and armchairs. The middle level has a very large open floor plan, is beautifully decorated with gorgeous views of the island all around. Together with its large dining table, newly restored kitchen, and wrap around decks, this floor allows for evening entertaining and hours of enjoying the breathtaking views and sunsets that South West Florida offers.
Although peaceful relaxation is what you will most enjoy on Useppa, the island offers a variety of activities from swimming to fishing, kayaking to biking, croquet to tennis, and lots more. The island has a gym for those who wish to work out and a museum for those interested in discovering some of the island's fascinating history. Boats can be rented at the nearby Four Winds marina to enable Useppa visitors to venture onto other islands.
Useppa is the perfect place for our family. The island offers all ages a variety of activities. We have five children from toddlers to teenagers, and all of them enjoy coming to Useppa. Although the main attraction is the swimming pool, boating and fishing are a favorite of the older children. The younger children enjoy the many activities organized by the club such as coloring contests, kids fishing tournaments or treasure hunts. What parents like us enjoy the most is knowing that our children are safe running and playing on their own throughout the island. The island's car free environment and the family oriented atmosphere that reign on Useppa are essentially what allow us to relax and enjoy! We are also big tennis players and enjoy playing on Useppa's clay courts.
We fell in love with Useppa the first time we went there and bought our house that same weekend. The island is enchanted with its tropical plants and fauna, and no where had we seen such peaceful surroundings. We also loved the idea of owning a home on Useppa because we knew that we could give some independence and freedom to our children without running too many risks. Useppa is a safe environment with no cars and no nightclubs, and we knew that our children would benefit from healthy and fun vacations there.
Anyone renting our house can enjoy the benefits of the island club's pool and jacuzzi, tennis courts, croquet court, basketball court and beach. Renting a boat at Four Winds Marina will allow you to then visit nearby islands such as Cayo Costa, Captiva and North Captiva, Boca Grande and Cabbage Key to name a few. Fishing is fantastic and captains can easily be found for those who may not have the expertise to go fishing on their own. Tarpon season is in May but can continue through June. Although tarpon fishing is very exciting, tarpon cannot be eaten... but other delectable fish can be caught throughout the year: just ask your captain to filet them!
