Lacoste House Rental Photos and Description
House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

'La Cigale' is a spacious, luxurious country house set in 7.5 hectares of beautiful, natural parkland within the Luberon Natural Park ideally situated within walking distance (1 km) of the village of Lacoste and its famous château dating back to the XI century.

The newly restored, expansive house set out on one level enjoys high-beamed ceilings, stone floors, and breathtaking views over the Luberon hills. On arrival, the automatic wrought iron gates open into natural parkland with stately mature trees and a long driveway to the front of the house.

The house is surrounded by a delightful, natural garden with south facing terrace, stone fountain, “borie”, “boule” court, and a peaceful, secluded pool, representing a haven of peace for those who wish to unwind, paint, read or go for long walks through the unspoilt countryside. Table and chairs on both the subtly lit terrace and by the “borie” provide perfect settings for relaxed evening meals.

The house has a delightful salon with a natural stone fireplace separating it from the elegant dining room. Both the salon and dining room are tastefully furnished in a mixture of Provencal and regency styles, and with original artworks adorning the walls. The entertainment system offers British television, DVD and CD. The dining room leads through to the library, with a selection of books, to a wrought iron spiral staircase that leads up to a delightful mezzanine that provides a quiet space for reading.

The modern kitchen is fully equipped with Smeg appliances; including oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and refrigerator, and a Gaggia coffee maker. All work surfaces are in marble, including a centre island, and there is plenty of crockery, glassware and cutlery. A wrought iron table and chairs is ideal for breakfast use in the cooler months.

The three elegant bedrooms each have double beds, and all open onto the stone terrace. The master bedroom has extensive views over the Luberon hills, and has direct en suite access to the main bathroom of the house, offering antique roll top bath and twin washbasins. The second bedroom opens onto the garden, and has direct en suite access to a second bathroom boasting an in-ground Italian shower, whilst the third bedroom provides direct access to the beautiful pool. All bedrooms have Provencal style wardrobes and dressers, bedside tables and lamps.

A small study provides the facilities for work if needed, while the house is fully equipped with a wireless network and high speed internet access (for own laptop connection), as well as telephone and fax facilities. The house is perfectly located to explore the many attractions of this spectacular region, including other nearby hilltop villages within the Luberon Natural Park such as Gordes and Roussillon, and towns such as Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, and St. Remy de Provence.

Romantic setting

'La Cigale' was the perfect romantic setting for celebrating our 25th anniversary. The location was fantastic, so close to all of the beautiful villages of the Luberon, and also very private and tranquil. There are wonderful views from all of the french doors out to the gardens. As an interior designer, I really appreciated and enjoyed the attention to detail in this beautiful and elegant home.

Dear Beverly,

after another 12 hours drive we safely made it to my parents home. We really enjoyed our stay in La Cigale and we would love to come back one day. Thank you for your hospitality and send our kindest regards to Martin and his wife. They have created a real marvel in the most beautiful area of the Provence.

Best wishes,
Joachim

My wife and I and our three kids stayed here for the first week of July 2011. It was our first time in this part of the world and we were flyiing by the seat of our pants when we booked. Things couldn't have worked out better. Beverly's communication was fantastic and she made us feel great about the holiday. The home is so nice that we drove by it twice marveling at it nad not realizing that it was our rental! Lacoste turned out to be our favorite town ( followed closely by Bonnieux). Sadly the week ended way too quickly. Stay here: you won't regret it. As an aside we took the TGV down from Paris to Avignon where we had rented a car from Avis for the week. We then flew home from Marseilles which all turned out to be a great way to do things.

We recently returned from two weeks at La Cigal. We had planned our trip specifically to be in a place where we could both tour the country side and enjoy the comforts of having a home to cook, paint, play music and write. La Cigal was a perfect match. The home is exceptionally beautiful. Exquisitely planned both inside and out, ideally located and well maintained and managed. I would not hesitate for a moment to rent this home again and look forward to doing so for an even longer period of time.

Dear Beverly,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Cigale from 13-20 July 2010. The house is lovely with all kinds of modern conveniences and very spacious and comfortable for six people. As I reflect back over our gracious days at La Cigale and the charming afternoons in the pool under the warm Provence sun and bright blue sky, one image remains so clear. What stays in my mind’s eye as we enjoy the cut La Cigale lavender that lives with us in our Toronto home, are the views of lavender fields in mid-July full bloom that surround the house. With the many French doors open, the long and beautiful house vistas leading into the lavender fields are immensely beautiful. Added to this is the smell of lavender as the in-ground watering systems come on about the house and the aroma of lavender permeates the atmosphere. With the French doors open during the nighttime, one sleeps with this remarkable and soothing aroma. I imagine as well that the property and vistas are striking even when the lavender is not in full bloom.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Cigale and thank the owners for sharing their beautiful and charming home and grounds with us.

Dear Beverly,

We thoroughly enjoyed our days at the villa; it is a wonderful place.

The pride of ownership from the owners was evident as we found everything necessary to make this a great time and tried to leave it as we found it.

We loved Provence and the villa is a great location for seeing many of the surrounding villages and attractions. We had great meals with local produce from the many markets.

Thanks again for your hospitality and especially for making the process so simple.

We have just spent 9 absolutely wonderful nights at your property La Cigale. I wanted to email and thank you for allowing us to book your property as I know that you have only recently starting renting the property to non-family and friends. The house was wonderful. We all commented on how it was truly lovely staying in someone's 'home' rather than a holiday rental with average furnishings. We made sure that all care was taken to ensure your lovely home stayed in good shape!

I felt that it was also very important for you to know just how fantastic Beverly was to deal with. We live in Sydney Australia so had to rely on email and your website to book this trip - sometimes these things can be an issue as people don't respond to emails quickly, pictures or comments about the properties are never quite what you see when you arrive. Beverly was an absolute gem to deal with. She replied quickly to all queries and made the whole process simple. She was a joy to deal with and represented the house exactly as it was so we arrived delighted and spent 9 very relaxing days in the region.

We will definitely return. We had a wonderful time. The house is fabulous - you should be very proud of what you have there and I hope you too get to enjoy it often.

Kind regards
Kerrie & Brian Wexham

Where do I start? Two weeks in Provence. Our 4th visit to the south of France and each encounter with Provence entrenches us so deeply that it is our fear - and desire - that we may not be able to tear away next time. La Cigale has elevated the latter and we dread tomorrow, our departure, far more than we anticipated our arrival two weeks ago. La Cigale is a treasure. This is our fouth bastide in Provence, and by far our favorite. The ten or so floor to ceiling double “French” doors open La Cigale to the Provence experience - so cool both during the heat of the day and the evenings, unlike so many others that have a few rectangular shuttered port holes. Unbelievable. The one level living is so convenient , and the pool – only 3 steps from the house instead of down the hill. Lavender fields everywhere – lining the driveway entrance and 7 hectars of true privacy. Could go on and on. Things we loved – Walking in the morning to Lacoste for coffee and croissant Walking in the evenings to the abbey Degustation at every turning Indoor market in Avignon – world renown All the local markets – at least one every day of the week Bastille Day in Venequae Salad lunches all over Dinner in Lourmarin at Auberge de Aiguebrun (request the dining room) Dinner in Jocas at Le Phebus - plan for a long French diner Preparing huge salads at our fabulous island in the kitchen with fare from the local markets Wine lunches at La Cigale overlooking the mountains Practicing our flip turns in the pool – reading Peter Mayle by the pool “ A Good Year” is a must read – I know you’ve seen the movie, but you haven’t read the book. It's in the library. The normal sightseeing Wine, wine and more wine Faulous weather and a true French experience. Forget Paris. As we depart, we leave a piece of us.
