Perfect in Playa!
Aldea Thai is a perfect place to spend a vacation in Playa Del Carmen. The condo is wonderful, the complex is ideal, the location is perfect and the owner is helpful and responsive.
To start, the condo is just as the pictures show - clean, modern and spacious. Our kids loved having their own bedroom, but not as much as they liked having our own pool on the deck. We liked the modern amenities, full size kitchen, living/dining room and King size bed in the master. This unit is on par with any upper end condo you would rent in the US.
Aldea Thai is perfectly located just one block from the beach on one side and just two blocks from the heart of town, 5th avenue, on the other. The unit is located on the same floor as the condo pool, which is perfect for kids and adults. Javier is the bartender at the in-pool bar and he was really nice to our kids and helpful to us with a bevy of restaurant and sightseeing suggestions that were genuine and actually helpful. The dive shop on the first floor is run by French expats (who also spent time in the US and speak perfect English) - use them for snorkeling or diving, they are fantastic. The taco place one the first floor is also tasty and they deliver to the pool ( just ask Javier).
The owner of this unit, Roko, was quite responsive. Having never done a VRBO in Mexico, Roko answered all of our questions and provided guidance on getting to/from the airport, things to see and do and restaurant suggestions. Simply put, Roko provided a perfect vacation condo for us and we will definitely go back to Aldea Thai and stay here. It was a perfect - not kidding - location and vacation for us.
A few words on PDC...a taxi from the Cancun airport to PDC is $80 (negotiated) because there is only one taxi company at the airport. The trip back via taxi is only $40. Groceries can be found at Mega which is more fun than boring Walmart. Taxi service anywhere in PDC is $50 pesos, but we only needed a cab for groceries, we walked everywhere else. We rented a car one day for $41 via American Car Rental just off 5th ave. We had a blast driving to Cenotes along the road on our way down to Tulum. Go to the Cenotes, it is a must do. The best restaurants at reasonable prices are NOT on 5th ave, go to El Fogon for Mexican and Pialo for pizza. If you by Alkumal, definitely stop at taqueria alborita for the best tacos in the area. Speaking of Alkumal, the snorkeling is amazing and includes Loggerhead turtles.
Aldea Thai + Roco's place = 10
