Photos and Description of the Jonesport vacation cottage rental
1 Bedroom + Loft + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4)

The Barn has been lovingly renovated into a charming seaside cottage. It is located on private acreage four miles from the village of Jonesport, across from Roque Island.

This unique oceanfront house exudes character and is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and tasteful artifacts. The Barn is a place where you'll immediately feel at home, and by the time you leave, you'll feel you've made a new and treasured friend. It's a peaceful get-away where you can get in tune with the sounds of nature.

Listen to the surf come ashore on the popple stone beach, enjoy the colors and textures of the lovely perennial and vegetable gardens, or take the path to the cliff side where you can marvel at the panoramic view of the ocean--perfect for sunrises.

Later in the day, stroll to a pristine sand beach where you may find some wonderful shells or bits of sea glass. Then relax on the front porch where you can watch the sun set over the open fields and two freshwater ponds.

A Magical Week

Our week at The Barn was magical. Prior to going, we viewed the online photos and read the reviews. Once there, it was better than we expected!

Every room in The Barn is perfectly set up to enjoy whatever pastime you wish. We've never been in a rental where every room is a treat to be in and every part of the house has an amazing view.

My husband and I never left the property, except to go to the nearby beach. He was able to set up his easel on the property and capture many views of the ocean and fields. I spent my time reading, relaxing and taking in the spectacular views. Every day I took many walks on Sandy River Beach, which is a very, very short walk from the house.

The first night we were there, I saw a meteor cross the sky as I looked out our huge bedroom window. WOW! The night sky is incredible to look at.

Betty and Eric are fabulous hosts. They are delightful to hang out with or, if you prefer to be left alone, they'll do that too!

Our son spent a few nights with us and loved sleeping in the loft. He kayaked, read, and just enjoyed the peaceful setting.

We are already saving our money for our return trip, which won't be soon enough. But we have wonderful memories to get us by until then.
Owner's Response: We have to agree--the views during daylight hours are gorgeous, but the night sky is also unbelievably beautiful, particularly when the ocean reflects the full moon. The Barn is a peaceful place to get in touch with nature and refresh your soul.

Paradise Found

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week spent in Downeast Maine at The Barn. The area is perfect for anyone wanting to unplug and completely relax for a week. The house is EXACTLY as advertised and more. The sounds of the ocean lull you into a state of total contentment and, even on a rainy day, the view is spectacular. You can, literally, see and hear the water from every room in the house and I spent every morning sipping my coffee and watching the birds fly through the backyard while my husband cooked breakfast.

Eric and Betty are truly delightful and are the most warm and welcoming hosts you could wish for when renting a vacation home. They helped us find fresh, local lobster, mussels and crab and even cooked the lobster for us in their cooker. They were a wealth of information on the local area and provided great information on places to visit while we were there.

We spent most of our days exploring the area, but would return each evening to cook dinner and enjoy a quiet evening by the fire. Most people wouldn't think it would be fun to cook on a vacation, but the kitchen is fully equipped with Calphalon cookware, excellent knives and nearly every utensil you can think of, so cooking was a true joy - especially when you have access to such great seafood. There is also a grill and an outdoor firepit, but it was too chilly for us to grill this time, but we'll definitely do it the next time we visit.

My husband and I have traveled all over the world and we found it to be one of the most special places we've ever visited. We both have very busy and stressful jobs and during our visit here we were able to slow down and reconnect with each other in a way we've been unable to do in a while. On top of that, the house is lovely, equipped with high quality towels and bed linens. You don't even needs to bring a book if you don't want to as the house is packed with all kinds of things to read. If you're seeking a vacation rental that is in pristine and unspoiled surroundings, but will offer you access to all the comforts of home, then this is your place. Thank you, Betty and Eric, for sharing your wonderful home with us. We look forward to being back again soon.

Restful quiet.....

The photos do not do this charming wonderful cottage justice. It was so peaceful, quiet, and utterly relaxing. I have never seen my husband as relaxed as he was and that is worth all the money in the world to me. Being able to watch the ocean and the crab boats in the morning and then to sit in front of a fire at night and listen to WBACH on the radio made this place heaven on earth to me! I am looking no further for a vacation spot.

Amazing views and location!

The barn is a perfect getaway. It fully stocked and beautifully decorated that we felt guilty leaving to check out the surrounding area on day-trips. Pictures truly do not do this place justice. It was fun spending evenings and days cooking in the kitchen with the view of the ocean outside the window.

We loved that this part of Maine was away from most of the tourists. There is ample local hiking, such as Beals Island and near Cutler. There is also a sandy beach 1-minute walk from the barn.

The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful with local information. We also loved Sugar!
Owner's Response: Just to clarify, Sugar is our very friendly six-year-old Yellow Lab. Most guests comment that they'd like to have Sugar's life--all this beautiful land to run free on and the ocean to take a dip in whenever the mood hits. Don't be concerned if you're not a dog lover, though, as she has great manners.

As Mike stated, Downeast Maine is not overrun with tourists. It's a great place to get away from it all (although there's plenty to do) and it abounds with natural beauty. If you love the outdoors, or just gazing at the ocean, sunsets and sunrises, or long for a peaceful and quiet retreat, this is your place!

Just got home from a holiday at the barn! What a hidden gem this was. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. We were amazed at how every need was catered to..from sunsets, sandy beaches, hiking, kayaking, waking up to the sound of birds and ocean waves. The barn has everything you need to make your stay a great one and I'm pretty sure the kitchen is far better stocked than my own! Betty and Eric are gracious hosts who go out of their way to make your stay a pleasure. The grounds are beautiful and extremely well kept and there is always something new to see in the binoculars that they supply.

We had a wonderful time and can't wait to get back! My husband and I found it to be the most relaxing and peaceful trip we have ever been on. Thanks to Betty, Eric and Sugar for allowing us to share their piece of heaven!

Enjoyed the week very much at “The Barn”. Eric & Betty have taken care to include about anything necessary to insure a comfortable setting and experience. The addition of TV and Wi-Fi add to the conveniences however we ended the week using very little of either. We made a day trip to Canada and enjoyed however upon returning we walked out back and my wife and I decided the view from The Barn was the best we had seen all day.We particularly enjoyed buying local fresh seafood and preparing in the kitchen, which is among the best equipped we have found in our years of travel. Excellent seafood is available at a number of places in Jonesport and Machias however we enjoyed Tall Barney’s most. Perfect hosts, the coast of Maine and seafood – what more could one ask for. We’ll certainly be back. Jack & Mary Betty Masters, Gallatin, TN

This was by far the greatest place I have ever vacationed. The owners were the best, they helped us with so many things and were a wealth of information. They went above and beyond as far as help and kindness. The property is more than what is pictured. We sat by the rocks looking out at the ocean all day, most days. It has such a beautiful view and was so private and soothing. If you want to go somewhere to let all your troubles drift away this is the place to go! We hope to return every year. We became friends with the owners who are truly the nicest people. The Barn had everything you could ever want or need included. We had fires by the ocean at night and were lucky enough to see the full moon over the ocean. Wow!!! I can't express how impressed we were with everything from the owners to the views. Great place to relax and enjoy your family!!!!!
