Colby lake cottage is a classic summer lakeside home on Upper Baker Pond, Orford NH. Experience a New England summer vacation, rural and private, 1200 feet of shoreline and 7 acres of open fields and woodsy areas. Your kitchen is equipped for you to prepare quick meals or gourmet dinners. A gas grill and picnic table are right outside your kitchen door on the deck. Sit on your covered porch with your morning coffee and watch the loons dive for fish. How about a day at the lake. Just 25 steps to the beach and there you are ready to jump in for a morning dip. You’ll have use of kayaks, rowboats, a canoe and a sail boat. How are you at ping pong, horseshoes, or badminton? Play tetherball, and bocce. Toss a football, have a game of catch, throw your dog a ball. You are 35 minutes north of Dartmouth/Hanover NH and it's wealth of cultural activities. Your cottage shares the 7 acres with one other guest cottage and the property manager's cottage. The 7 acres is named Sunset Ranch Camp.

Restaurants, Groceries, Organic, & Farm Stands : The region has many restaurants, from fast food to fine dining. Two in Orford are Ariana's and Peyton Place. Cross the bridge into Fairlee VT and you'll find Leda's Pizza, Whistlestop Cafe, and Bailey's Tavern. A few other popular eating places are, The Perfect Pear and Colintina Exit in Bradford VT. Stella's in Lyme. Mai Thai, Molly's Balloon, and Jesse's Steak Seaford & Tavern in Hanover. For breakfast or lunch try the Fairlee Diner or Plain Jane's in Rumney.

For your groceries, Wings in Fairlee, Hannafords and Super Wal-Mart in Plymouth, Shawnees in Wentworth. Three Co-Ops located in Hanover have excellent organic groceries. Local farm stands are in Orford, Fairlee, Bradford and many other Upper Valley towns.

Favorite Activity: Our children enjoyed catching bait, the inner tube, swimming, tether ball, kayaking, building sandcastles and horseshoes. Our dog loved patrolling the grounds. Comments: What a beautiful place and view! We hope to be back next year and have many more bonfires with smores and picnic dinners. Maybe we'll even catch a fish. Amanda and Tony from MA.

Favorite Activity: Kayaking, swimming and sitting on the porch. Comments: We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Sitting on the porch with our coffee, looking across the pond is just so relaxing. The kitchen is so well equipped we've been able to stay in and cook, eating our meals outside overlooking the pond. Thank you Buddy and Lynne, you have been wonderful, warm hosts. Favorite Activity: Being here amidst the fresh air, beautiful landscape, cozy cottage, generous hosts. Reading, walking, ping pong and canoeing. Comments: Having grown up not far from here on a beautiful lake, this place offers so much, if not as much as any place I've been. Careful planning and much care have gone into making Sunset Ranch an idyllic setting for a relaxing and stimulating vacation. Favorite Activity: Swimming and jumping off the raft, kayaking, fishing, hiking, playing many board games from Smith Hall and croquet. Comments: Thank you Lynne and Buddy for the opportunity again to enjoy a week of vacation in this lovely area of NH. This is our 2nd time of creating priceless memories for our family. Our son looks forward to coming and we hope to be continual visitors. We are very grateful our paths have crossed. We enjoyed hiking part of the Appalachian Trail this year. Favorite Activities: Toasting marshmallows, lawn games and playing on the beach. Child Comments: I caught 9 fish. Favorite Activities: Ping Pong, and other lawn games, swimming, loon watching, photography, country walks, sitting on the porch. Comments: We have enjoyed our two weeks here very much. It has been wonderful sitting on the front porch viewing the beautiful waterfront and mountains. We have had fun watching the loons play in the water. Colby cottage is so charming and supplied with everything that you would need. It is a slice of heaven here!

Favorite Activities: Sitting on the porch looking at the lake. Having a fire in the fire pit, "sailing", kayaking, swimming, and watching our dogs run free. Comments: We had a great vacation! Loved the peaceful setting, the views, and the lovely cottage. Buddy teaching me to sail is my favorite memory.

Favorite Activities: Drinking coffee on the porch, swimming, fires in the fire pit, and having plenty of room for our toddler to run! And chatting with our cottage neighbors and their sweet dog Caleb!
Comments: We couldn't have found a better place! Buddy and Lynne are fantastic hosts. The place has everything you could think you'd need. This is our 5th vacation home rental and by far the best. We're looking forward to spending another week here. Thank you so much for your hospitality, attention to detail and for sharing your lovely memory filled camp with us!

Favorite Activities: Country walks, canoeing, breakfast by the lake, reading on the lawn, ping-pong!
Comments: What a wonderful place! The cottage is so comfortable and homey and well equipped, the hosts so warm and welcoming and helpful. The setting is just so beautiful and there is enough of what we care to do. The kitchen is a pleasure to prepare meals in, as well. We are definitely coming back next year!
