Clean, Modern & Cozy Retreat
Clean, Modern & Cozy Retreat

We have stayed in several homes near the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, and the Highdesert Homestead is high on our list of homes we would be return to again and again.
The house was immaculate when we arrived, and although it has a clean, modern design, we still found it to be quite cozy and comfortable. (Because we were traveling with a small child and a dog, we did move a few breakable vases up to the mantel of the fireplace to keep them out of harm’s way.) Everything that we might have needed had been provided (high-quality linens, extra blankets, bath soaps, etc.), and the kitchen was spacious and well appointed for a family that enjoys to cook.
Our family spent our evenings on the couch in front of the fireplace, frequently venturing outside to look at the starry sky and hear the coyotes howl. In the mornings, we made breakfast in the kitchen, sipped coffee on the sunny porch outside one of the bedrooms and listened to quail in the open desert just below the property. Our dog enjoyed exploring the spacious, fenced yard, and she especially enjoyed sniffing around the pomegranate bush, where a desert cottontail visited each evening.
Since the national park entrance is only a few minutes away, we spent our days hiking and then drove into town (again, a short drive) for lunch. Afternoons were spent back at the house, lounging in the chairs that were provided, reading and just watching the birds, lizards and other desert critters that happened by.
This was truly a wonderful place to get away from the city to rest, relax and rejuvenate. We are looking forward to returning to Highdesert Homestead soon!
