Clean, Modern & Cozy Retreat

Clean, Modern & Cozy Retreat

We have stayed in several homes near the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, and the Highdesert Homestead is high on our list of homes we would be return to again and again.

The house was immaculate when we arrived, and although it has a clean, modern design, we still found it to be quite cozy and comfortable. (Because we were traveling with a small child and a dog, we did move a few breakable vases up to the mantel of the fireplace to keep them out of harm’s way.) Everything that we might have needed had been provided (high-quality linens, extra blankets, bath soaps, etc.), and the kitchen was spacious and well appointed for a family that enjoys to cook.

Our family spent our evenings on the couch in front of the fireplace, frequently venturing outside to look at the starry sky and hear the coyotes howl. In the mornings, we made breakfast in the kitchen, sipped coffee on the sunny porch outside one of the bedrooms and listened to quail in the open desert just below the property. Our dog enjoyed exploring the spacious, fenced yard, and she especially enjoyed sniffing around the pomegranate bush, where a desert cottontail visited each evening.

Since the national park entrance is only a few minutes away, we spent our days hiking and then drove into town (again, a short drive) for lunch. Afternoons were spent back at the house, lounging in the chairs that were provided, reading and just watching the birds, lizards and other desert critters that happened by.

This was truly a wonderful place to get away from the city to rest, relax and rejuvenate. We are looking forward to returning to Highdesert Homestead soon!

I saw the pictures of the house and area beforehand but never expected what I found....warm, comfortable home, immediately remote but the area near town, incredible night and day views, rabbits, quail, antelope squirrels, coyotes....so tranquil and interesting watching the wildlife and the park is within sight. I can't wait to come back in the Spring to see the desert in bloom. If you are looking for peace, this is the place!

The best trip EVER

I wanted to take my boyfriend away to a quiet spot in Joshua Tree for his birthday, and I also wanted a house that had style and character and reflected who we are. I found it!

The Highdesert Homestead was the most perfect vacation rental. From the minute I started making arrangements with the owner, I knew it would be a great trip. He answered any questions I had right away and made the whole process easy.

When we arrived everything was exactly what we expected, and more. The home is so beautifully decorated, a take on modern desert minimalism- with a collection of National Geographic magazines, binoculars to watch the mountains, a gorgeous fireplace and a well stocked kitchen- with salad bowls, wine glasses, coffee cups, pots, pans, and even candles and lighters! We stayed in the master bedroom and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

What we loved most about our stay was that it was close enough to get into town (just about 5 minutes) but far enough from town that you see more stars than you thought were out there. The privacy and quiet of the home was exactly what we needed.

The other thing that struck us was how well the house was cared for. The owner clearly put time and effort into it, and we really appreciated that. There were lounge chairs in just the right spot, a deck with two chairs and a table off of the second bedroom, firewood ready, the kitchen stocked with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.

We will be back as soon as our schedule allows!

Wonderful and relaxing place to stay!

Lovely house with a serene and relaxed vibe. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We arrived at night and were stunned when we woke up to the fantastic views! We couldn't help but lounge on the bed with all the pillows in the extra room and read while keeping an eye on the copious quail amongst the cholla and yuccas outside. We loved the design aesthetic that went into this house's renovation. Clean modernism with lots of beautiful wood! It's very quiet and feels secluded although there are other houses within site. The location is very convenient to the National Park and town. Crossroads Cafe, The Natural Sisters Cafe and Sam's provide excellent vegetarian eating. The owners are friendly and organized, making the trip easier on us. The roads to the house are not paved and are quite a bumpy ride, but it's worth it. We highly recommend a stay and will be back!

My boyfriend and I rented the Highdesert Homestead for a weekend getaway from Los Angeles. We had such a wonderful time at the home - it is incredibly peaceful and serene, and the home itself is beautifully decorated and so enjoyable to stay in! The home was clean and included all the necessary amenities for cooking and relaxing. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the spacious fenced in yard was perfect for our dog to run around. I would highly recommend renting this house - we will definitely be back!

Dreamy!

We stayed at the Homestead for 4 glorious nights and enjoyed every bit of it! The home itself was simple and beautiful, with comfy beds and a very welcoming atmosphere. Each room had something unique to discover. The bathroom was stocked with organic shampoo and conditioner, and all kinds of relaxing bath foams. Every morning the sun streamed in throughout the house and we sipped our organic (and delicious) coffee on the back porch, watching the day begin.

I was a bit nervous to be in the desert during such a hot time of the year (we went at the end of June), but the Homestead was surprisingly breezy and cool enough for us to even have a couple fires in the evening (plus they have a cooler that worked quite well during the rare times when we used it). The town of Joshua Tree and Yucca had all kinds of neat shops to explore and discover, though we only ventured out once (who would want to leave???). Our two little dogs joined us on the journey and were thoroughly pleased with the enormous yard and all the desert critters. I already miss it and can't wait to go back!

Perfect getaway...

My husband and I decided to get away to somewhere warmer (we are from Seattle) for our 5th anniversary, so we chose Joshua Tree and searched for houses until we saw the Highdesert Homestead. We both still needed to be able to work while we were on vacation but wanted a house that felt like an escape. And when we arrived, we were thrilled. The home itself is a vacation. The home is perfectly designed and they have not missed a single detail. Everything was clean and organized which made it easy to relax. Even our two dogs felt like they were on vacation, they loved to lay on the patio and use the beautiful dog bowls provided. I am a writer and found constant inspiration in the views from every room. We went on hikes and explorations nearby, but cooked nearly every meal in the beautiful kitchen. The Highdesert Homestead was even more perfect than the pictures and descriptions show. It was a great stay and we will certainly be returning.

My husband and I had a wonderful time in this vacation home! It was just what we needed...quiet, peace and relaxation! The weather couldn't have been more perfect over the past few days. We forgot how nice it is to wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee outside, surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. It was also a special treat to make some amazing meals on the grill! A lot of our time was spent in the guest room, since it was a perfect spot for us to lounge and read, while enjoying a nice breeze.

Peace with nature

Joshua Tree is a spiritual place. Being able to access it easily from a place that is serene and comfortable made our three days and two night stay at Highdesert Homestead just what our family needed. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bedrooms were designed for rest. The fireplace area was spacious for our family of 4 adults, but could have used one more "easy chair (four on the couch was cosy, but not always practical).
We are unanimous in our desire to return next year - perhaps later in March to see the desert bloom. However, Joshua Tree never disappoints, and neither did the HighDesert Homestead.

We returned today from the US and we can say that the stay at Highdesert Homestead was our absolute highlight. Accommodation, view, and calm ambience with the surrounding nature were fantastic. We immediately felt at home and were so sad as we had to leave too early.

Thank you so much for this wonderful experience!
