Relax, View Wildlife at Gorgeous, Immaculate Home

Would rent again ... Woodbury, Connecticut, USA
Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our family of five - including three children, ages 4-9 - spent an incredible week at Pear Point in July. The house is gorgeous, well-appointed but not too stuffy for children, perfectly clean, excellent location. The house feels tucked away from the world, but it's a quick and easy ride to Friday Harbor.
The house sits maybe 20-30 yards back from the water. (It's not a steep drop-off - gradually rocky as you get near the water - but we didn't let kids near there without an adult.) The view from the property is amazing, with Lopez Island directly across the water, and snow-capped Mt. Baker in the distance. From the decks and two-story windows we spotted a bald eagle or two flying past the house every day, sometimes with dinner in talon! Little black foxes and deer with their fawns would take a path through the yard, and song birds dined on the berries growing by the side of the deck.
The owners thought of everything: fresh herbs growing on the deck, which we used for our grilled fish and salads; lap blankets for chilly mornings on the deck with our coffee; binoculars for watching spotted harbor seals frolic, feed and sun-bathe throughout the day.
The kids loved sleeping, reading and playing in the loft (loft not for toddlers because of steps and railings). The kitchen is updated and has all the basics for cooking; we used the outdoor grill every night for dinner.
Things to do while you're there:
Rent a couple of bikes in town. Take a ride to the local bakery for fresh pastries or a loaf of bread. My husband and nine-year-old did this daily.
Visit Westcott Bay Sea Farms, a very rustic oyster farm not far from Roche Harbor. Grab fresh oysters for your dinner. They go great with the local wine!
Picnic at Lime Kiln Park while watching for orcas and porpoises. Let the kids climb the rocks and explore the tidal pools full of crabs, sea stars, anemones.
Relax, read, hike at South Beach (watch for orcas there too!). Let the kids build driftwood forts.
Take a jog from Pear Point to Jackson Beach and back - 3.5 miles.
Hike the American Camp and British Camp areas; learn about the Pig War that wasn't.
Visit the alpaca farm.
Shop in Friday Harbor for local pottery and books.
On your last day, park your car early for the ferry, and enjoy a giant breakfast at the Hungry Clam before you board.

We would definitely return and rent this house again!

magnificent location and views

As soon as we saw this listing we knew that any other house would be a disapointment! The location and views are absolutely magnificent!
The sunrise views from bed were wonderful, and the view from the living room, deck and adirondack chairs on the point were all amazing. Nature came to us -- a deer peacefully eating berries right outside the window, an eagle enjoying lunch on a nearby rock, a pear of eagles at the top of a nearby tree, sea lions making their rounds and numerous other land and sea birds to watch.
The convenience of being able to cook meals and do laundry was great, as was the cozy fireplace and stock of reading material.
The location is perfect -- close to town so easy for a dinner or shopping trip, but on such a scluded point that you would swear you had the whole island to yourself!
If we return to San Juan Island I know where we will stay!

My husband and I and our adult son had an awesome time at Pear Point. We only wish we could have stayed longer. The home and the view are both amazing - Wow, Wow, Wow is all I can say about it!!!! The house is not lacking one thing and is VERY clean. We saw seals, bald eagles, and deer daily. We also saw a few black fox. We were very fortunate to see part of a pod of orca whales from the deck of the house and also saw two pods of whales when we went to Lime Kiln Park. We just enjoyed making and eating all of of meals at the house with the VIEW. What a spectacular place to find serenity. Thanks.

Highly recommend this home in beautiful location

Pear Point is a comfortable, well-stocked home with beautiful water front views! The home is far enough away from Friday Harbor to be at peace and away from it all, yet close enough to go into town for that missing grocery item, rental bikes, boating and restaurants. The home is clean and well maintained, and includes a well stocked kitchen, a cozy wood burning fireplace and full size washer and dryer; along with a peaceful, beautiful view.

We loved seeing the Orcas up close at Lime Kiln State Park (one of the three pods swam VERY close to shore!), visiting the American and British camps and other island sites.

We hope to return in the future and highly recommend Pear Point.

Great stay at Pear Point

My family and I loved this house and property. The location is ideal - quiet and secluded, yet not far from Friday Harbor. We woke up every morning to the sound of seals and the gentle buzz of small boats passing by. You can go right down to the water and my kids explored the tide pools endlessly. You can see the water from every location in the house, and the deck is a great place to hang out (we almost never left it). No complaints at all and we would highly recommend this property.

Stay extra Leave Book at Home

What a fabulous and relaxing vacation our family had in your secluded, spacious, supberb and relaxing view, very clean, well supplied and all around comfy home. We truly felt like we were staying with very special friends. Everything was smartly provided, kitchen ware, throw blankets to curl up with while sitting out in the evening air staring at the view, binoculars to watch wildlife (which there was plenty of) and maps and books. The Island has so many fun things to do however we were memorized by the view and cushy couches that we found ourselves back to the house for solitude, naps and rest. Tried to read my book only to find myself gazing off to the view. Hard to sleep in as the morning just called us out to watch the sun rise, so beautiful and breath-taking. WE can not wait to come back, we really found ourselves relaxed and rejuvinated for our return to schedules. Just wished we stayed a few more days..a week would be more then worth it! So peaceful was our stay (loved the board games, gave us great evening family time) that we had gain a new connection to each other, ourselves and our Creator. You have a gem of vacation property, thank you for renting it out and keeping it so special. Blessings to you, Brent and Jill and kids

Gorgeous waterfront property

Our family had such a wonderful time! Basically everything written in the description and more, we felt very welcomed! Seals swam by the house nearly every day and we had our own private stretch of shoreline to explore. The kids loved that. We were outside so much in the fresh air, we all slept like logs in the comfortable beds. I think my favorite part was sitting in the chairs by the water, wrapped up in the available "lap blankets" to watch the fireworks across the water at Lopez Island on the 4th. Oh and of course seeing the wild orcas swim by at Lime Kiln Park, highly recommend a visit there during the stay!

Relaxation and exploration, what a nice combination : )
