Better than Expected!

I recently booked this cabin in Franklin, NC as part of a guys weekend/whitewater rafting trip. Upon walking into the cabin our expectations were exceeded immediately. Very clean, rustic-looking yet comfortable, beautiful views, and plenty of space for everyone. The pictures really don’t do this place justice. When a group of men are taking photos to send to their wives, you know it has got to be good. After a long, cold day rafting the Chattooga, it was perfect to come home to a nice warm cabin with a roaring fire in the fireplace.

I spoke with the owner about this property before booking. She returned my emails/questions promptly and was always very courteous. She charged exactly what she said that she would and returned the entire security deposit once she verified that we left the property in good condition. The cabin was not booked the day before our arrival so she allowed us to check-in early. Additionally, since there was not a booking after us, she allowed us to check-out late if we needed. Unfortunately we had quite a drive from/to Ohio so we didn't get to utilize this, but it was still very considerate for her to allow us that if needed. She was a pleasure to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate to rent this cabin from her again.

For the price, this cabin delivered more than was expected! Well done!

Family Holiday

My family has come to the Smokey Mountains for 13 years now. The Hoffman's cabin is the most exceptional home we've visited yet. The condition of the home was pristine. We love to cook and the owners have taken special care to provide top of the line cookware and a fully equipped kitchen. The children loved playing in the fully finished basement and in the snow on the lovely porches. Every movie channel imaginable was available on tv. The tankless hot water system provided endless hot water. The view was breathtaking. The road to the cabin was manageable without 4-wheel drive. The cabin was secluded, but still a very short drive to Franklin. The photos do not do the cabin justice. Carlana was very accommodating and left up the Christmas decorations (which were spectacular!), provided firewood, and even left a personalized note to welcome us to the cabin. We are already planning our trip back. If you even think you'd like to vacation here, call the Hoffman's, you won't be disappointed!

beautiful cabin/poor experience

Submitted: December 27, 2012 Stayed: November 2012
Our family (6 adults and 2 children) visited this cabin the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. After very thorough research, we felt like this property would be a great fit. And we were not disappointed by the cabin- lots of room, nicely decorated, comfortable bedding/furnishing, quiet "neighborhood", etc. We enjoyed the outdoor firepit, 15 min drive into Franklin for lunch at Cash's Smokehouse (excellent BBQ), making use of the fireplace each evening, etc. It was a great time for our family to come together and enjoy a relaxing weekend.

HOWEVER, we had a very poor experience dealing with Carlana (owner) at the end of our stay. Upon booking the reservation, we were informed that late checkout would be possible due to no other guests arriving for several days. Our family made plans with this in mind and on the last day of our stay, was preparing to drive over to Highlands and spend part of the day there before returning to the cabin, packing and heading home. Around mid-day we received a call from the individual in charge of cleaning the cabin, inquiring about the time of our departure. We were told that other guests would be arriving by early afternoon and she needed to begin cleaning asap. We felt there must be some confusion and called Carlana. Keep in mind, we understood that late checkout was an added "bonus" and if new guests were arriving, we would honor their time and try to vacate the cabin as quickly as possible (however, with 8 ppl, including twin babies, the logistics were fairly complicated). I voiced this to Carlana, in a very diplomatic way, but expressed our disappointment/frustration in the lack of notification of the change of plans. She was VERY terse, stating that it was a last minute reservation, and that she forgot we had been told we could stay late. Carlana barely offered an insincere apology and I was taken aback by her abruptness. I voiced that I hoped this would not happen to other guests in the future and the conversation ended by Carlana hanging up on me. This was rather surprising, considering that I am generally a laid back person. It seemed to be a very poor and unprofessional way to handle an understandable oversight.

Again, we enjoyed the cabin and the chances of someone else having a similar incident are slim. But our overall experience will definitely be marred by how Carlana chose to respond to her understandable mistake.

Spectacular Property!

My husband, four small children and I stayed at this beautiful home mid-October to take the children gemstone mining and stay in the Smoky Mountain area. This is our first experience with vrbo and it was better than expected. The owner went above and beyond to respond quickly to all questions within a very short time frame and was both helpful and reliable.
We found the home to be in excellent condition both inside and out. My first thought upon arrival was that the decor resembled a model home, as it is charming and appears professionally decorated.
The view is breathtaking from the main living space (a wall of windows) as well as from the porch and outdoor firepit area. It felt as if we were in a treehouse as we looked out over a multitude of trees with fall foliage. The beds are very comfortable, which is rare to find in a vacation home from my experience, and the kitchen is fully stocked with every amenity that anyone could need. There are also two living spaces for family time with a wood burning fireplace in each.
Traveling with four children, we enjoyed the options of multiple sleeping areas, several bathrooms, multiple tvs, foosball table, and a large dining area that this house provides. We ate in several times and would recommend Fat Buddies for any bbq fans (particularly good bbq chicken). The owner also provides a pack and play as well as a highchair for younger guests.
The gemstone mining was a hit with the children (ages 2,4,6, and 9). We would definitely return to Rose Creek Mine as they were very child friendly while still providing a native soil experience.
We are so thankful that the owners have decided to share their home as it provided for one of the best family vacations that we have ever taken!

Great value and pleasant accommodations!

We were so happy to find a nice place to stay in Franklin, N.C. We have friends who live nearby, and with our growing family of 9, it's not always easy to find accommodations.

We were very happy with the Hoffman's home, and were able to fit very comfortably.
There was a lot of beautiful wood decor in the home. The color themes were very nice and everything was clean and spacious. The price was right as well!

With an outdoor fire-pit,an indoor fireplace, and cool nights, it would've been nice to have some firewood/starter materials handy, but we found some at the local Lowe's in Franklin.

Thank you, Carlana, for accommodating our large family. We enjoyed our stay!

Thank you Carlana for sharing your home with us. We stayed with our 2 children for 1 week and thoroughly enjoyed your home, it's location and it's natural beauty. Very clean and well-maintained, plenty of space, fully equipped kitchen and bbq, beautifully furnished and super comfortable beds. The outdoor firepit was a hit, we enjoyed the crackling of the fire, and roasting marshmallows and making smores. The location is perfect for sight-seeing in the surrounding areas such as Cherokee, Bryson City, Dillsboro and Highlands. Franklin is 15-20 minutes drive from the property. Stock up on food and firewood at Ingles and sign up for an Ingles discount card before heading to the property. Thank you, we hope to stay at your home again.

June 2012 Hoffman House review

4 of 5
Submitted: July 9, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
The place is in a convenient and beautiful Nantahala Forest setting. The main and upper floors are nicely, comfortably furnished; bedrooms sparse but comfortable. The lower level bedroom needs improvements to make it look and feel less stark - especially since it's without windows. It has a great wrap-around deck that screams for non-existant comfortable outdoor furniture to eat and/or sit. Great outdoor firepit.
The owner was friendly and prompt in replying.
Only 2 hours away from Atlanta. Lots to do in surrounding area - town shopping and restaurants; gem mines; rafting; hiking; waterfalls; tubing and canoeing/kayaking; boating; rivers and lakes...
June is beautiful with blooming rhodedendrums (SP?) and other wildflowers.

Amazing Home!

Submitted: January 26, 2012 Stayed: January 2012
Hi Carlana,
We just got back from our week in your wonderful home. Talk about getting away from it all! We loved it. Most of
the folks we talked to said there weren't a lot of tourists during the Winter. That really surprises me. Loved the feel
of the mountain air at night and enjoyed the sites.
We are thinking about using our other week in July to try the summer functions as well.
You have an amazing home and my kids really enjoyed the TRUE family time we had even
without texting capabilities!!!
We got plenty of firewood at Ingles (even got an advantage card!) and stocked up.
Left quite a few things in the fridge that I figured your cleaning people might like.
(Lots of beer, soda and non perishable items) I hope that was ok.
Thanks again for sharing your lovely home. The decorations, the window treatments,
just amazing.
All the best...

My wife and I stayed here April 20-24. As we arrived we could not believe how nice this house is. We spent four lovely nights. The weather was perfect. The house is about a 20 minute ride from downtown Franklin, but worth the drive. The house is very big and good for a family reunion or such. We will be doing this next year.
The bed in master room very comfortable. The shower clean and fancy. We ate a few dinners at the house and it was very relaxing. It is extremely quite at night. We are so happy that thier are people like the Hoffman's who share what they have. Thanks again, and many happy returns to you and your family.

Your Cabin is Beautiful!

Submitted: November 22, 2010 Stayed: November 2010
The trip was great. Your cabin is beautiful and we had everything we needed. Plenty of room for everyone. We used the fire pit to toast marshmallows for s'mores. My kids (ages, 26,24,& 19) even cooked hot dogs over the fire! Very fun! We drove to Highlands one afternoon and enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery and water falls along the way. Tim and I even snuck away for lunch at the Dillard House. Tim and I came up on Thursday and the kids joined us on Friday. The next time we do this we will definitely plan to have at least a couple of days for just the two of us! Thank you for the use of your cabin. It is so nice to actually get something even better than you expect. It is so often the other way around! The cabin really is beautiful and we truly enjoyed staying there.

Thank you so much!
Barbara
