Along with a lot of other lakes in the area, Wind Pudding Lake is very low. There is however an area to fish right in front of the cabin. We caught several Northern Pike and Bluegill (all caught and released) along with seeing plenty of Largemouth Bass and Perch in the crystal clear water. The cabin is brand new and very impressive with attention to detail. The water was clean, tasted great (filtered?), there were extra blankets, full kitchen with utensils, and even a few movies and board games. My wife and I were simply amazed when we walked on the pier late at night to stare at the stars. The cabin is also in a central location to many norhwoods tourist attractions.

It is a very nice house and is extremely secluded which is wonderful for going to northern Wisconsin. We saw tons of wildlife while we were there during the week. The location of the house is perfect, close but not too close to Minocqua. One downside that we saw with the place is the lake. The owners are very open about the lake level being low, which it is. This house still has a patch of the lake (like a medium sized pond) in front of the house, but the level of the lake is lower than what can be seen in the one picture on this web site. With that being said, we were still able to do some fishing and get out in the row boat and canoe. This place would also be a great location for snowmobiling. No fire pit is allowed but they do have a charcoal grill so you can still roast marshmallows. The owners were very easy to deal with and answered all of our questions.

We spent a weekend for a girlfriends get-away and it was perfect. Such a lovely, comfortable home with North woods vistas from every window. My favorite thing was the bald eagles that did figure eights over the lake island in front of the house...over & over again. Also, it was early spring and the cacophany of the frogs in the otherwise stillness of the night was mesmerizing. They lulled me to sleep. I loved every minute & will defintely return.

Great Getaway

We thought we were in northern Canada. We could see nothing but pristine forests and the lake from this beautiful home in a one-of-a-kind setting--no development, no houses along the shore, no noise--just peace, quiet, and the bald eagles.

Kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and swimming the very clear/clean water as well as fishing for pan fish.

A truly beautiful home with wonderful views of the water, wildlife, and forest from every room. The eagles, nesting nearby, were majestic.

Peaceful, tranquil setting. Helpful and easy to deal with owners. Thanks for everything.

Description VERY misleading

If you are looking for a lake vacation, this is NOT the place. While the house is very nice, there is essentially no lake - mostly dried up. The water is not deep enought to swim anywhere or even boat. It was extremely buggy and swamp-like.
Owner's Response: We feel it is necessary to respond to this one negative review we received from last summer’s rentals. Yes, our lake is very low due a prolonged drought. When renters contact us, we make every effort to make sure they know of the lake’s condition. Yes, one can swim in it and even fish in the deeper section in front of our house. And there is a much larger section of this lake that is excellent for fishing, but not currently accessible by boat from our house (but one could drive to the boat landing). We are situated in a truly beautiful setting however and one certainly gets all the natural beauty that living on a lake affords. Bald eagles nest in the island across from our house and many species of birds can be viewed from our deck. No neighboring houses are visible from our house – it truly is peaceful – serene and private. Several renters from last summer commented that they were able to canoe and fish on our lake and greatly enjoyed their stay. No other complaints.

The situation with these particular renters is unfortunate. We notified them in advance of the lake conditions and they responded they were looking forward to their stay. They only told us of their dissatisfaction at the end of their week stay and wanted a 50% refund at that point. That seemed unreasonable to us after completing their stay. Plus, our cleaning service reported that they left the house extremely dirty requiring extra hours of cleaning on their part. We did not feel a refund was warranted under these circumstances. They were not happy about this and stated they would be writing a negative review, among other things, in response. Home Away has a policy of posting all reviews if it is verified that the reviewer actually stayed in the property. We had no power to veto the posting but only to respond to it. If you have any questions for us, please feel free to call or email.
