Paid for a night without electricity
We arrived on 4/21 to a house without electricity. It was boiling hot inside, and we could not even put our perishable food in the frig because it was also hot. We called the listing agent (LSI) and they did not know why it didnt have power. They later determined that the electric bill had not been paid, so the power company had disconnected it. It took approximately 3-4 hours for the power to be turned on and another few hours for the home to cool off enough to stay inside. LSI said they would make a concession, but never refunded even a portion of the first nights rent. Since they demand cash or a check in advance, there is no way to dispute it, and LSI said the owner felt he did not owe any refund because "the electric was turned on right away", which is not factual. He also did not seem to care that even after the electric was turned on, that it took several hours for the 90+degree heat in the home to cool off enough. So around 2AM the next morning it was finally comfortable enough to try and get to sleep after an entire night was wasted in a dark hot hell hole.
Now as to the place itself, don't be fooled by the comment "Waterfront, not Lake/Oceanfront" as it is far from oceanfront. That is unless you consider a small inlet of saltwater oceanfront. If you look closely at the one picture in the backyard you can see other cheap patio homes across the saltwater inlet with dilapidated docks in disrepair. The so called pool is barely larger than a hottub, so other than dipping your feet in the water, dont plan on doing any swimming. What appears to be sand in the back is actually crushed sharp broken seashells that will cut bare feet. Other problems exist such as non functioning remotes for an old style TV(old CRT instead of flat screen). The air-hockey/pool table is nothing more than the cheap kiddie ones you see at Sports Authority that when turned over is a mini pool table. The room is too small for even the tiny table. Not to mention that the room is an add on, with no working A/C in it. As to fishing in the back, what a joke. The rod they had didn't even have a hook on it, but I doubt you'd catch anything other than a minnow anyway. The place was clean, but much of the furniture is dated. Heck the living room sofa was covered in bluejean material. The A/C thermostat kept going back to 84 degrees, so every night we kept waking up hot, and had to manually lower it. But at least we had power the other days, so I guess the owner feels we got a bargain.
Owner's Response: Well... when you do things at the last second you can't really expect to have others ready for your lack of preparation. Calling the day of arrival and staying in a 3 bedroom, fully furnished, beautiful home on the water at the last minute for less than the cost of a Motel 6 is something I would be grateful for. But that's just me. All of the furniture was purchased brand new in 2006 and in my opinion, is lovely and warm. And all of the many dozens of renters and family who have stayed in our home agree. The house is just plain fun for families... no the fishing isn't world class, but you catch fun fish on live shrimp, if you know how to tie a hook to a line that is... the pool isn't olympic, but you cool off and enjoy the kids swim time... no the pool table/air-hockey isn't a championship table, but it is fun for the whole family... if you can appreciate it that is... All in all, anyone, especially families, will enjoy their stay at Robin Trail!!! We look forward to having you.
