Beautiful Surroundings and Very Pleasant Stay

ebrookm London, England
Review Submitted: May 18, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
I rented this cabin with four other friends from high school (we are now in our 30's) for a reunion. We had a fantastic time going to Anna Ruby Falls, the town of Helen, and walking along to the Chattahoochee river.

I was coming from London, three other friends from Atlanta, one from Knoxville and the other from New York. We all enjoyed the cabin muchly and had a blast.

The cabin's location is difficult to find initially, so please follow the owners directions rather than "google maps" which caused us to get lost for over an hour.

The cabin is larger than we had expected, equipped with everything you might need, and is the perfect size for relaxing and exploring the area. I loved the wrap around porch and the swing! I might suggest new pots and pans - but aside from that, this was a fantastic rental.

I would absolutely rent it again. Thank you.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad that you have a wonderful time. We will take your suggention and buy new pots and pan.

just wanted to let you know we really enjoyed our stay in your cabin. It was really beautiful and a peaceful setting. We all wanted to stay permanetly because it was such a wonderful place. What a great weekend it was for us. Thank you so much! We did not take our dog or my mother in laws dog though.
We would recommend everyone we know to come to your cabin as it was so warm, cozy and welcoming. It was really pretty and we did not miss having cable or a phone. It was such a nice break from our everyday lives. It was so easy to get to everything also and sight see too. It felt like home away from home to us and we are greatful for the chance to have been there.

This clean beautiful cabin was everything we hoped it would be. We enjoyed the hottub and our daughters loved the air hockey table! The view from the deck was very pretty and peaceful. The deck was unbelievably spacious and the beds were very comfortable. If we get the chance we would love to come back to stay again.

Big Bear Cabin

erplot Burke, VA
Review Submitted: July 28, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I was impressed with the Big Bear Cabin, The owner was extremely accessible via e-mail and gave me her cell phone # on several occasions, should I need it. My only disappointment is that I would not consider this cabin as having access to the river. Otherwise, everything was as advertised, including a nice hot tub on the porch and air hockey table in the game room. The bedrooms were huge and very comfortable. I would recommend a stay at this cabin to anyone.

Excellent getaway from the everyday hastles

BigCityGirl Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
My family and I rented the cabin for the weekend and found it perfect for a getaway from the everyday hastles of modern life. We have a 6 yr old daughter and she had the best time playing outside gathering leaves, playing on the airhockey table (which I could not get her and my husband away long enough to have dinner :o)...) The large TV had great surround sound for movies both for kids and adults. We had a great time playing music and just dancing around the house and doing all the things people don't think of doing when they are at home glued to the TV or computer. They provided books and games as well, which gave us a wonderful true family time. The owners also provided great places to see and explore, along with the perfect little cafes to have home-cooking country breakfast. Those are the things you dont get to see in the big city which attacted us and will keep us coming back. It is a great place to just disconnect from everything and take in the beauty of nature. We plan on returning hopefully in the summer time to try out the river tubing and the hot tub. Especially since the price was extremely reasonable for such a large and well-placed cabin.

Perfect getaway

Fun for 9 Jasper, GA
Review Submitted: April 19, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We (4 adults & 5 children) visited this "hidden treasure" for a couple of nights during our spring break. The price was right and everything was just as described on the website. The owner was very helpful from beginning to end...she even went as far as mailing us a make up bag that was left behind! Everything was very clean and in order when we arrived. We took our Wii and some movies to occupy the kids in the evenings, but they didn't even need them. There's lots of room for the kids to run out and play on the wrap-around deck and plenty of room inside the cabin for playing cards and board games. The air hockey table was an added bonus, too. If you're truly looking for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is a place for you...we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will be repeat visitors (for a longer stay next time though).

Secluded Getaway

weathergal Athens, GA
Review Submitted: March 30, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
A group of friends and I stayed here for our spring break and I was very pleased with the cabin. The location was secluded and very peaceful. The cabin was beautiful and rustic, however I would agree with the lack of modern technology. Not that it was a problem because that is what we were looking for. I read the description and saw the cabin had no satellite so I came equipped with my favorite DVDs and books. The den had a large TV with surround sound so I was pleased. We also had excellent cell phone service which surprised me because I use Alltel. There are many places to visit in surrounding areas like Anna Ruby Falls, Brasstown Bald and Tallulah Gorge so make plans to visit some of these places and that will compensate for the lack of entertainment at the cabin. Our group consisted of young adults with no children so we were easy to entertain. The renters made it very easy for me since I traveled with pets, not too many places were willing to do this! The checkout policy was simple and I was pleased with the overall experience.

Right Price, But Lacking Some Modern Conveniences!

robjam Dayton, TN
Review Submitted: March 20, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
Overall, our stay was fairly enjoyable; however, we were disappointed in some of the expected modern conveniences that were missing - I will list them below, along with our remedies:

No Television, Cable or Satellite
No Radio
No Dishwasher or Dish Drainer
No Alarm Clock(s)
No Phone
No Pot Holders
Icemaker not hooked up to water source

Since there was no tv, we watched 5 movies during our 4 night stay - we would have liked to be able to catch the local news once or twice during our stay

Since there was no radio, we listened to one of the cd's that was provided for entertainment

Since there was no alarm clocks (and we have a special needs child, whose life revolves around a schedule, even during the overnight hours), I had to use the alarm on my cell phone to not miss any of the scheduled medication or feeding administrations.

Since there was no telephone, we used our cell phones (thankfully, there was a good signal with Verizon, which is our carrier)

Since the ice maker was not hooked up, we bought a bag of ice and poured the ice into the ice container in the freezer. (the owners had provided one ice cube tray to make ice manually, but that wouldn't even begin to be enough for 2 people, much less 8)

I could live without the dishwasher, but I felt that a dish drainer should be provided for people to drain the dishes in that they wash by hand.

No pot holders was a nuisance, since I like to cook and you can't handle something coming out of the oven without pot holders (even though the kitchen is fully equipped, maybe cooking is discouraged by the fact that pot holders aren't provided).

Not alot was expected by the guests upon departure, but in the paperwork it says to take all trash to the dumpster. I kept looking for a dumpster and I finally found (after about the 3rd day) a large 40 gallon exterior trash can on wheels under the front porch. I assumed they were referring to that when they said "dumpster".

If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, including modern conveniences of everyday life, you might enjoy this cabin, since the price is right, but we found out we wished we had brought along a fan, as the cabin was a little stuffy in the evenings.

The dates of our stay were from March 16-20, 2009.
Owner's Response: We thank the coments of our guest; it is the way we use to try to make the Black Bear Cabin as enjoyable as possible. We beleive that a Cabin hiden in the woods used by people getting out of a City for a few days should isolate them from everyday's news. That is the reason we do not provide cable and or satellite. Non the less the same equipment used as CD/DVD player has AM/FM radio.
A dish drainer has been added to the kitchen equipment as well as some pot holders, thanks to the imput of our guest.
Regarding alarm clocks, we do not normally supply them
for similar reason than TV, but they are available upon request, at no extra charge. For similar reason we do not provide telephone.
When the Cabin gets a little stuffy during the evenings, it is very convenient to turn on the central air conditioning, or the central heating, if becoming cold.
