My wife and I can actually say that the pictures on the website are for the most part pretty accurate. The outside of this home is beautiful, they have a great looking swimming pool, two great looking patios upstairs and downstairs, where you can watch the day go by. Near the pool, you have covered beach chairs, you can also barbecue inside the Bohio that can accommodate your entire family. The views from the pool and from the house are really nice. That was the best that the house has to offer. Hector seems like a nice person, but he tends to disappear for long periods of time, leaving you to you to fend for yourself. In all fairness to him, he took me to the fish market, showed me around town and to a great restaurant that we enjoyed during our stay. On the negative, the inside of the house was filthy. We discovered stains on the sheets that smelled like urine or something that you wouldn’t want to sleep on, there was dust everywhere and bugs of every type all over the house. The worst of it is that the owner has not invested in mosquito screens for the windows and doors, which forces the guest to close the doors at all times, thus loosing the use of the tropical breezes during the days and evenings.
The kitchen was falling apart. All of the amenities were dirty and the stove was not efficient. This house just needs some TLC and it would be a jewel in San Carlos. It appears that whomever is in charge of cleaning inside the house before the guests arrive does not think this is important. The light fixtures around the property are cracked and falling apart, the barbecue pit was dirty and it took a few hours to clean it, the filtered water in the kitchen was suspect, the ceiling fan on the first floor is noisy and kept us up all night and the shower needs a good scrubbing and sanitizing. By the way, the CD music player did not work and the cell phone that was promised for the guests was missing in action.
Overall, the San Carlos house has potential but lacks the attention to detail.. I am sure I am like most vacationers that do not mind paying the advertized prize if they are getting the basics right. My recommendation to you is do not stay here until you can get a commitment from the owner that he will ensure that all of the above things are taken care of off before you arrive.
Owner's Response: I regret that this renter was not satisfied but I could tell from our first contact that he might be the type of person who is difficult to please. I acknowledge that some of the details around the property were in need of some TLC but he seemed to go out of his way to make complaints and even invented problems that didn't exist. For example, there are screens on all of the windows (but not the sliding doors), the cell phone is there and functions perfectly, and the radio/ipod dock works fine.
Enough of the negativity.. here is how we addressed these issues. We visited the property the week after this renter left and had to dismiss our caretaker and house keeper. They were with us a long time but became lazy. We hired a new caretaker and he kicks butt. The place looks great! We replaced all of the bedding, towels, and many items in the kitchen. The house has been cleaned from top to bottom. Please look at the reviews over the past 5 years and even the review the month after this renter. We have put a lot of time and effort into making this a place that people will really enjoy and I feel confident that these issues have been thoroughly resolved!
