FISHING and FUN!: The fishing in the lake is great. If you want big trophy fish monster Pike are pulled out every year. We like to keep the freezer stocked with the Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon that you don't need to be an expert angler to catch. The road goes all around the lake and there are plenty of good spots to fish from shore. There's also Doc's Marina to rent fishing boats and fun toys by the hour, or day. They also rent 'party barges' so everyone can go! There's also some 10 hiking trails that are nearby and easy. You can hike up either Vallecito Creek or the Los Pinos River into the Weminuche which begins at both trail heads. Best of all, there is a trail just above the house that takes you up into the Wilderness Area smacking you with a gorgous alpine meadow dressed with a stream, deer and elk. There are also ATVs for rent that will take you up forest roads and trails high up into the mountains right across the lake! For skiers Durango Mountain Resort and Wolf Creek Ski Area both boast some of the best powder anywhere with no long lift line. FALL, THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS: FALL COLORS! Fall is a wonderful time to visit. The Aspens set the hills ablaze with color! There are several famous color tours you can do as day trips. Try the Million Dollar Highway over the passes through Silverton and Telluride- an easy and fabulous journey; a photographers dream. The summer visitors are gone, the fishing's at it's best and the marina will normally still be renting boats. This is also generally the most predictably finest weather of the year. THANKSGIVING! What a wonderful place to give thanks with your loved ones for God's awesome creation!

CHRISTMAS......Well, who doesn't dream of a White Colorado Christmas? We put the tree up by Thanksgiving, string up the outside lights, dig out the Santas and nutcrackers, make sure the woodpile is bulging and then it's all up to you to let the magic begin. You just have to supply the milk and cookies (some sugarplums are nice, too!)

SKIING and HUNTING: SKIERS! We are right in between two awesome ski areas. Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) and Wolf Creek Ski Area . You've probably heard about Purgatory but not Wolf Creek, which is known for the best and deepest powder in the country. Both have great and varied terrain for all skill levels and no long lift lines! Snowmobile rentals are available. Here at Lake Vallecito we have miles of groomed Nordic Ski Trails right across the lake.

If you want to just hang out in your own winter wonderland just stay home in front of our beautiful soapstone wood stove/fireplace. We have tons of wood - use all you want! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

HUNTERS! This is the ideal base camp! Just one mile up the trail from the house is Freeman Park, renowned for retreiving trophy Elk and Deer!! The entire area has good hunting including Wild Turkey.
