Just wanted to say “Thank you” for our wonderful stay in your vacation home! Your house is so beautiful, we all felt right at home. I was very impressed with all the amenities!! You thought of everything. All we had to do was relax and enjoy our stay. We will gladly pass on our highest recommendations to stay in your home when family and friends travel to Maryland. Thank you for taking such good care of us!!

We had a great time catching crab from the dock. Not knowing how well we would do we bought 1 ½ bushels from Lindy’s for dinner. On our own we caught 35 crabs (we released them because we were just catching them for fun)!! We did see a skate and that was really neat. We went to Ocean City, Assategue, Chincoteague, Blackwater Refuge, Hooper’s Island, Taylor’s Island, Oxford and St Michael’s. St. Michael’s was our favorite. They have a lot of wonderful restaurants and artists.

We loved the kayaks, bicycles and pool. We used them daily. What a great place.

Thank you again – it was above and beyond our expectations!! We’ve never been so well cared for prior to and on vacation.
Owner's Response: Wow... So many activities..... these folks are truly the "power vacation" family! All the places they visited are truly fun and not too far away, and yet there's so much to do within 15 minutes of the house.... On our website we list many, many restaurants, activities and sights close-in, as well as those within an hour's drive or so.
Crabbing remains a wonderful activity at the property for both adults and kids (our own kids crabbed as young as three years old). Remember to check out the "how to" and State regulations on our site and to return females back to the water for the benefit of future crab generations...
- Thanks for such a *wonderful* review.

Crabbing, Swimming, Biking, Kayaking, Relaxing, Etc. Kids loved the crabbing part. Not many places you can do all those sort of things. Best rental house we've ever had. 3 families with a total of 12 people, had a wonderful time. We never felt we were 'on top' of each other. Everyone had enough space in and out of the modern home. A true Chesapeake experience. We look forward in returning.
Owner's Response: Lovely guests; thanks for such a nice review. Providing a place for extended families to enjoy their coveted, once-a-year reunion is one of the great pleasures we get from our home.

The Best Place To End The Summer!!!! =)

Review Submitted: September 15, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed here during the last weekend of August 2009 and it turned out to be far more than we've expected. We had a mini-reunion, four families of varying ages (4 year-olds to 70 year-old Grandma), and every single one of us had a really wonderful time!

The 4-hour trip from NJ to MD was well worth it. The minute we arrived, the house was pleasantly cool inside. The heated pool was inviting and quickly became a favorite for the kids from morning until late afternoon. The grown-ups had an equally fun time going night swimming.

The boating, crabbing, fishing, biking and tons of other outdoor activities kept everyone busy. The dads surely had smiles on their faces as wide as the kids everytime the traps came up with crabs caught in them. Late in the afternoon, all of us gathered around the fire pitt and enjoyed smores and stories.

The house itself was conveniently equipped with everything you'll need. The kitchen was modern, clean, well-kept as well as the rest of the house. The living rooms were tastefully furnished and became our venue for late night games and gatherings. The bathrooms were excellent as well. After a full day of activities, it was so nice to retire in the bedrooms wich were nothing short of relaxing.

We would recommend this home to families who want to make lasting memories. Furthermore, the owners were always eager to help with each and every concern we had, no matter how small.

Thank you so much!!! We'd love to be back next year. =)

Owner's Response: As parents of young children we tried to make this an upscale summer "camp" for kids and adults alike. It's always great to hear that it worked...these were great guest and it's a very nice review (thanks). We would love to have them back next year - many of our guests are return guests and we really enjoy being part of their family fabric.

Fabulous Two-Family Trip

SWM Northern Virginia
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We had the wonderful opportunity to travel with another family to Jon and Amalia's property late in September. The house and location, in combination, are fabulous! As we were only two families -- 4 adults and 6 children -- traveling together, we were able to spread out across this spacious and well-equipped house. The house itself had the nicest decor of any rental property either of our families has ever stayed in. To be honest, though, we spent the bulk of our time on the dock and at the water's edge, crabbing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and lounging. The water is deep enough to enjoy all these activities, but shallow enough to feel comfortable having younger kids -- in life jackets -- moving all around the property's water area. Both our families are pretty picky travelers with high standards, and Saddle Beach certainly met our expectations. Additionally, we had the pleasure of meeting Jon in person -- he went out of his way to make sure everything about our stay was right. We are already looking forward to re-booking this property, perhaps exploring the Eastern Shore during the fall or winter season to see what treasures we might find in chillier weather. Saddle Beach as a base for relaxation on the Eastern Shore is highly recommended!
Owner's Response: We try to learn what guests are looking for in a vacation, and to be their local "guides" - helping with restaurant recommendations and tips on sightseeing, golf, fishing charters, spas, gyms, boat rentals etc.
Sometimes the personality of guest families really comes out, and that was certainly the case here. They're absolutely lovely, and really know how to make the best of a vacation. Can't wait to have them back....

A Perfect Getaway!

EJHathaways Philadelphia, PA
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
As often as we travel, we'd be thrilled if every vacation was as terrific as this one. The house far exceeded our expectations for a rental home. Our family group was 9 with two kids and a toddler during July 4th. The house is lovely, beautifully maintained, set on a Bay with well maintained grounds, tasteful decor, and new linens. We caught Maryland crabs off the dock the 1st night (the kids were too excited not to). We swam in the pool every day, the weather was perfect except for one hard rain, so we sat on the wraparound porch during the storm. There's a great farmer's market on the way to the house with corn, melons and more and a country store about ten minutes away by bike - we bought bait and supplies and wine. Decor was excellent - again more than we expected (a small suggestion, more reading lamps would be nice). The owner was great - thorough & accomodating - Our only regret was we wanted more time. A Superior home! We hope to revisit!
Owner's Response: A big benefit to having a vacation property is hearing that others are enjoying our dream home. Like this guest we try to enjoy the simple things at the shore in addition to everything else... Wonderful fresh produce, crabs and seafood; local personalities; country stores and scenic drives. We also love porches, and that's why we built these Southern-Living-style deep, stone porches with metal roofs and ceiling fans, that run more than 120 feet around the house. They bring the outside-in, and make it very easy to sit back and enjoy the water view.
Thanks!

Pictures Don't Tell the Truth

Tud Mt. Gretna Pa USA
Review Submitted: August 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This property does look lovely but it was been neglected and poorly repaired. The pond is actually a swamp and walking around the property is impossible because you must run to avoid the mosquitos. The porch screens were repaired with duct tape and the furniture was dirty. The grill did not work and the propane tank was empty. My husband repaired it. The icemaker was broken and so we bought ice. There was no laundry soap, bar soap, toilet paper or shampoo. The third floor air conditioner was not working properly and it was in the 80's at bed time. The tv did not work on that level. The master bath smelled like urine and there was mold in the shower. This is not the house to stay if you have dust allergys.
Owner's Response: We are of course very disappointed. We want all our guests to have a fantastic time, and we know that every guest deserves an excellent vacation. We have learned to over-prepare and frequently communicate with everyone, because it really makes a difference.

Some of this is right and some is unfair and inaccurate. What's most unfortunate is that we reached out, but never heard from them either just before, during or even after their stay. Imagine staying at a hotel, having an issue but never communicating it; nothing would get addressed.

This house is practically new, luxurious, extremely well furnished, cleaned and maintained. There were indeed a few minor items needing repair and all were resolved within a week. However some could have been handled immediately if we were informed.

The pond is salt water and tidal; it's lovely and we've never had a complaint. The tidal wetlands of the Eastern Shore are even a reason so many people come to this area! Moving salt water doesn't breed mosquitos; we have no more or less than any other Cambridge property.

We communicate with great frequency with our guests but this one was unique. We speak, they receive an information package, we have a resource website just for them, and we have materials on the property. We make it clear that we don't provide toiletries, and provide instructions on where to get them close by; how to use the three air conditioners (they were fine!); the grill etc. We have a maintenance team that will come out in a heartbeat if there's an issue. Unfortunately in this case, we simply were not given a chance to satisfy the guest.

We really enjoyed this home. The dock was great for the kids to fish from/play on. The home was very nice/comfortable. Everything about it was great but the owners weren't the best at communication or getting back to us in a timely basis. The main issue was that there is a pool at the house and it was closed up during our stay there, while we were told differently. All worked out in the end but it would've been nice to know more about this in advance.
Owner's Response: Very nice guests - thanks for the great review!
The issue about the pool was not about communication at all, but a Pool Service company that closed the pool early and without our knowledge. Late October in this area can be cold and is the season that pools get closed. We had no idea and tried to have it reopened. As a result we compensated the guest. We would welcome them back in our homes any time.

We are a family of 5 with 3 kids below the age of 10. We are international travelers, have explored the country and the world, and must say that our stay at this Chesapeake Bay waterfront home was phenomenal!! We did significant research around the variety of options where we could stay, and finally opted to choose this home. We could not have been happier with the choice. The condition of the house is excellent. Each of our kid had his/her own room and it really felt like this was our home away from home. The spaces are large, the taste in decoration superb, the facilities all new. The kitchen, the beds, the linens, all spotless. The porch surrounding the house and overseeing the pool makes for a very relaxing atmosphere with the kids. They loved spending time at the heated pool while we had the opportunity to read and relax. The minute that you arrive, you feel like you are alone in this world. The home is very private with extensive territory surrounding it. There is an outside field, where the kids cab safely run around and play sports. Additionally, we took advantage of the beach, and the bay. This is a fantastic home and I cannot say enough how wonderful of a stay we had. I recommend this home to anybody who wants to spend some time visiting the Chesapeake Bay. I cannot imagine a better way of doing it. We will definitely be coming back!

Great vacation home!

Minxy Williamsburg, Va
Review Submitted: December 2, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
Our extended family of twelve spent 4 days over Thanksgiving in this lovely home. It was well equipped, very spacious, and beautifully decorated. It was so peaceful and relaxing. All you could hear were the migrating geese. The weather was perfect, sunny and very brisk. We enjoyed sitting on the dock, and also sitting around the outdoor fire pit. Some of us even ventured out in the canoe. A number of bikes were also available for us to use. We all commented about what a wonderful place this would be to spend a summer vacation. Jon, the owner, was very helpful when we had questions. I highly recommend this rental property.
