Not exactly what we expected

This was our fifth year visiting SML and this was definitely the worst place we have stayed in. The one good thing I can say about it is that it was clean. You can swim off the dock if you don't mind swimming in 4 ft. of water with bugs on the top. There is absolutely no sandy beach at all. You can spend time at the dock at night if you don't mind sitting in the dark because there are no lights and an unlighted path to get back up to the house. The gently sloped lot is gentle compared to some, but gets rather slippery after it rains. The bushes are so overgrown that you can't really see the front of the house or use the front door. This also makes it rather dark inside. The house also slopes toward the lake so you constantly feel like you are on a boat. The good sized kitchen is really only big enough for 1 adult person. The hot tub is for three people which makes it kind of difficult to enjoy when the house holds four people. Also, the chemicals are so strong that it makes you cough when you get in it. Your view of the lake is the small cove that the house is situated on. There is only about 10 ft. or less between this dock and the dock across the cove. It was very easy to carry on a conversation with the people across the cove.
Owner's Response: We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.. However as far as sand goes - we are not allowed to add or change anything with sand on this lake, feel freee to go to AEP web site to see all their laws and regs..An owner is lucky to have this much sand and there is sand there.
Also the lake is dark, no we do not have those citystreet lights like what you requested this is the lake and the country. This is why people come here. Also this is back in a cove, we tell you that and you can see that on the web. This is one of those great lots where you can walk out in the water with small kids and dogs..Everyone else has loved and we have an 80% returnee rate..So no - this is not a drop off with deep water, it does have good water however. Also not sure what bugs you are even talking about, never seen any here, and no one else has either. Thanks to all who do enjoy this private country lake setting..Sorry to anyone who is expecting a beach like Virginia Beach ( they do not exist here) and sorry to anyone who needs any street lights - we do not have that at this lake...

If you're looking for a very nice clean inviting home to stay and enjoy your vacation this is the perfect spot. The home was just the perfect size for my husband, myself and our dog. We spent our days relaxing on the deck with a good book, enjoying the beautiful views of the lake, sitting on the dock watching the fish bite, soaking in the hot tub. it was just wonderful! I don't think I've ever been on such a peaceful relaxing trip. We truly didn't want to pack up and come home. We only moved our car once and that was to go to the awesome store nearby White's store. You have to check that out if you can. It has the cutest little nick nacks, and a great deli. Everyone was so friendly and helpful there too. We hope to be able to come back again soon and I would love to stay here again.

Beautiful charming cottage, exceptionally clean very private, the cows scared our dog while we were fishing on the dock at night. The hot tub could have been bigger,we watched a beautiful lightning storm from the covered dock and enjoyed going out on our boat fishing and sightseeing. All in all a great rental property,VERY RELAXING.

Fun at the Lake

Review Submitted: July 8, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
This is a charming, clean cottage-type house in a quiet and secluded part of the Lake. We had our two children and our dog and everyone had a great time! We rented a pontoon boat froma local marina for the week which fit nicely at the boat dock at the house and was great for spending some quality time on the Lake! We really enjoyed the quiet and the privacy of the house and the great access to the main lake when we wanted to be there. This house is definitely best for families with younger children and couples but I would not recommend it for elderly people as access to the lake is a bit more challenging.

Great for weekend getaway

Review Submitted: March 10, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2007
We were looking to get away from our lives for a weekend with our dogs. It's a wonderful little house, great for a couple or small family.

It was quiet while we were there. We slept in, took the dogs for a walk, cooked, watched movies and enjoyed the wonderful hot tub. Very relaxing.

The house was all very neat and clean.

We brought food and cooked so we can't speak to the local restaurants.

We plan on keeping the location bookmarked for when we need to get away again.

The house is small but perfect for 3 to 4 people. It has a beautiful view of the lake from the dock and a hot tub on the deck. Everything in the house worked perfectly! There is a grate in the dining area which has currently caved in. It is safe to walk on but makes a lot of noise and the dog was afraid of it. This is the only thing that I beleive needs fixing.

We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed driving/walking around the area very much. I would definately return. If it is cold be sure to bring extra blankets as the comforters were not to thick.

Overall, we had a fantaastic time!
Owner's Response: Thank You for staying with us the heat return air vent has the filter that does drop when the heat kicks on after being truned off. Thanks for letting us know everything and remember if you stay with us this vacation could be free if you buy from Leslie! Thank you again!
