Photos and Description of the St. Augustine vacation cottage rental
2BR, 2 Bath, Oceanside Vacation Rental St. Augustine, Florida USA, sleeps 2-4

Come and enjoy this cozy cottage in the land of dolphins and pelicans! Enjoy the sounds of gentle breezes blowing in the palm trees outside your window, and the surf rolling up on the beach. You'll love the natural beauty of the still-unspoiled area of North Florida. You can walk along a peaceful, uncrowded beach and just relax, or pick one of the many activities nearby: para sailing, deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, boating, cycling, bird-watching, hiking or golf. St. Augustine is only two miles away, Jacksonville 45 minutes away, and Orlando is a two-hour drive. This quaint, historic cottage was part of a group of houses built in the 1930's in this area of Vilano Beach. Originally a fishing village, the area was constructed by an aviator named Reiss, a colleague of Charles Lindbergh and founder of the St. Augustine airport. Used by military families during WWII (a German spy occupied one of these cottages), it later became a motel called the Pagoda.

Our cottage has a bedroom with a queen size bed and a slider door that goes onto the back deck. The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, oven and sink and plenty of cabinet space. The bathroom and kitchen are updated with all new plumbing, appliances, tile and fixtures. There is the original southern heart pine paneling throughout the cottage. It is cozy (about 500 square feet), but there is an additional 120 square feet of deck. It is private and safe, with a fence around the perimeter and a gated driveway. There is plenty of space for parking.

The cottage is just 100 yards from the beach. A minute walk down the road will lead to the path through stunning dunes. Vilano is a quiet and lovely beach, where you may spot dolphins playing, watch a beautiful sunrise, or walk for miles. The ocean has different offerings every day - you may find a conch shell, a starfish, or pieces of fossilized tortoise shell.

St. Augustine, the oldest European settlement in the country, has much to offer. The historic section has retained its original colonial style. The main part of the town is just a drive over the bridge which crosses the intracoastal waterway. This area has wildlife sanctuaries nearby, including Guana River State Park. St. Augustine has fine restaurants, antique stores, museums, horse-drawn carriage rides, bus/trolley tours, sailboat tours, a wonderful lighthouse on nearby Anastasia Island, and many other attractions. You can surf or parasail right off of Vilano Beach. Or just enjoy the day reading a great book and lounging on the hammock.

Very Relaxing!

We stayed 3 nights at the Cottage and had a very relaxing weekend! It was my husband and myself and my brother and his wife and the cottage is set up perfectly for two couples. There is a bedroom and bath on each "end" of the cottage and then a small kitchen and living area in the middle. We didn't spend much time in the cottage so the small living area was not a problem. It is a very short walk to the beach over the dunes and the shelling is the best I've ever seen on a Florida beach and I've been to many of them! The cottage is right across the street from Publix and the new shopping and eating area. There are several good restaurants there and of course St. Augustine is right across the bridge.
We would recommend the cottage for 1 or 2 couples or a small family and for anybody looking for a relaxing getaway.

Perfect, peaceful vacation!

This cottage really was what we had in mind for our holiday vacation by the ocean. It's really cozy, but has everything you need, including beach towels and chairs. Every morning we got up and strolled down to the dunes with our coffee (didn't need to cross any roads). There was hardly anyone there - and we saw dolphins! The old town is closeby and at that time of year the lights are beautiful. There's a grocery store within easy walking distance which was really convenient. We hiked at the state park up the road. We'll be coming back!

Perfect Escape!

We have been using the Beachcomber cottage since 2004. Some years we've been twice! We love it. The cottage is cozy, clean, and has everything we need for a week on the beach. It takes only 5 minutes to walk to the beach and almost everyday we have a large area all to ourselves. The convenience to stores for food and souvenirs is great. Kyle's Seafood Market is great for fresh caught fish and clams, but if you want something special they will get it for you. When the day is done the cottage has comfort to offer. We'll be reserving the Beachcomber for as long as the owner will let us.
