spectacular setting

My family of 4 enjoyed a fantastic vacation at this beach house in July. The best part about it was the spectacular setting--I could have sat at the table and looked out at the panoramic view of the ocean all day. I am a native of Massachusetts (and have lived both on the north shore and the south shore) and I had no idea that such a place existed--the white sandy beach had almost no one on it during the July week that we were there, which is unbelievable for that time of year in MA. The beach was heavenly--the gentle waves were easy to navigate for my water-phobic 9-year old and to my amazement he enthusiastically tried to teach himself to swim. The water was freezing (which is normal for MA)--but diving in felt incredibly refreshing on the 90 degree days. And on our last day the water was surprisingly warm and I swam in it for an hour, thinking "there is nowhere else I would rather be at this moment."
The house itself was comfortable, well maintained, clean and nicely furnished--although midweek it got unbearably hot. There are many fans in the house, but no air conditioning, so it was hard to get relief--there just weren't any cool sea breezes that day. The downstairs accommodations were much cooler than upstairs--so if you plan to stay there in July or August you might want to claim the downstairs bedroom. Otherwise, the house had everything we needed. We appreciated the abundant supply of beach and bath towels. Neighbors we met were very friendly and welcoming, and all our communications with owner Steve were very positive--he was responsive and eager to make sure we were comfortable.
There are lots of sites in the area to see--but we've seen them all (since we lived there) so we didn't venture out much. Frankly, it was hard to leave the idyllic setting! But, we did go to Fenway Park and watch the Red Sox crush the Twins 18-5...a very memorable (though hot) day.
One thing to be aware of is that there is no direct beach access from the house--to get to the beach you need to walk down the road (not far) and go down a very long staircase. If you're young and strong this is not going to be an issue. For me it was difficult to get down those stairs (I have mobility issues and walk with a leg brace) but totally worth it once my feet hit the sand.
We had a fantastic vacation there and will definitely try to get back there next summer.
