We enjoyed the property. The house was spacious and pretty much had everything we needed for a short weekend getaway.

Nice Yard and View - Dirty Cabin

1 of 5
Submitted: August 2, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We stayed at the cabin on a rainy weekend in July. When the rain stopped, we enjoyed the cabin very much. The view of the river is lovely from the spacious deck, and there is a big open yard for playing.

However, we were extremely underwhelmed by our experience when we were stuck indoors. The cabin was very dirty. The wall-to-wall carpet is stained and old, and we could not find a vaccuum cleaner in the house, despite the instructions to clean up after ourselves. The furniture is old and dingy. But the worst part is the dirty kitchen and bathroom. We had to clean the kitchen for a full hour before being able to use it, and we kept our shoes on in the bathroom because the floors were so dirty. Plus there's no shower curtain, so if you shower using the hand held shower head, the bathroom inevitably gets soaked leading to more cleaing. From what we can tell, the owner does not hire a cleaning service. I hope he will reconsider because the house is nice but desperately needs a scrub down and I prefer not to clean other people's homes on my weekends away.

Another problem is that the boat is covered in overgrowth, under the deck, and extremely heavy, which meant we weren't able to use it. Even if you did, it would be difficult to get it down to the water because there is a 5 foot or so drop-off from the walkway to the river shore. (It is possible to hop down and climb back up if you want to swim.)

Despite the enjoyable outdoor space, I would not recommend this cabin. We are two couples in our early 30s and not terribly sensitive to grime -- we usually camp on our weekends in the mountains -- so I don't think our expectations were too high.

Very Rustic

The location of the cabin couldn't be better. Wonderful, private and quiet right on the river. What surprised us was the condition of the cabin itself. While the pictures show the cabin to be rustic, we rented this house on the basis of other reviews.

The cabin has not been maintained or updated. It was dark, hot, grimy and full of bugs, both dead and alive. If you are primarily interested in location and are comfortable with some dirt and critters this is an ideal location. We chose to stay and adapt to the environment and wound up having a lovely weekend.

A beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. Very quiet, just a few floaters down the river. Perfect place for the family to share some time together. Bedrooms a little warm at night, make sure you bring some fans. You may also want to bring some kitchen cooking supplies, if you are wanting to dine in. Definitely a place that my husband and I will return too.

Private and scenic 3 bedroom cabin sleeps 6. 50 yards from the Shenandoah River. Dock to river with 11 foot rowboat. Sits on 1 acre. Ideal setting for family fun. Large deck to accomodate sitting area, BBQ, outdoor dining. Separate thermostats in each room of house. Large lawn for volleyball, kickball or hide&seek for kids. No outdoor fires allowed by City Code. Stayed in cabin numerous times. Never a bad time.
