A wonderful place to stay

Rosierat Fife, Scotland
Review Submitted: September 8, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This is a beautiful property, which I cannot recommend highly enough. We were 7 in our party, so were very comfortable spread over the 4 bedrooms. I think it would be crowded with 14 though. The house was clean and tidy and all the furnishings and equipment are of the highest quality. Patrick, the landlord, was very friendly and helpful. Although on one occassion we were warned at the metro that the area was not safe to walk around at night, we felt perfectly safe walking to and from the metro, though we did not do this late at night. It is a short metro ride to the centre of Washington. Highly recommend hiring bikes from Thomson boat and cycle hire as a way of seeing the main sights. Do not bother with the Double Decker bus tours - they do not run frequently or regularly, nor do they keep to their scheduled route and stops. A complete waste of money and a precious days sight-seeing.
Owner's Response: This is a very safe neighborhood from the Metro stops. The area is established as a historic district. I live in the area and I find it to be as safe as any location in DC. This is the only neighborhood that I would live in DC. I love it, it is quiet and friendly.

GS troop loved their home away from home!

Troop Momma Hoosick Falls, NY
Review Submitted: August 24, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Our troop had been planning and fundraising for our trip to DC for three years. When looking for a rental property this one seemed perfect for location, ease of access to metrorail, size, and our budget. The owners were amazing resources prior to our visit and answered tons of questions. But our stay far exceeded our expectations -- very comfortable sleeping/living space for six teenaged girls and three chaperone moms, ideal 'hanging-out' room with comfy couches and TV/DVD/stereo, computer for quick updates with friends at home and to do research on all the places we were going to visit, generosity of the owners to get us from/to Union Station and a grocery store, handy laundry facilities, and much more! This was a one-in-a-lifetime experience for us all!

Only two requests would be to have more hanging options in bathrooms/adjoining rooms for wet towels and space for putting cosmetic bags, especially downstairs.
Owner's Response: We thank the troops for their review. We also enjoyed having them as guest, The suggestions that were made will be considered and that is how we plan to provide the very best service and comfort to all guest. This is how we can improve our home rental.

Surpassed expectations

Pozezanac Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Review Submitted: August 7, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We recently has the pleasure of staying in this residence. It is centrally located in a very nice neighbourhood. The house is well furnished, spacious and comfortable. Its finished basement with leather couches and a large screen TV was a huge hit with our teenage sons. The owner is conveniently located across the street and was quite hospitable and accomodating to our needs.
Owner's Response: We thank the guest for the review. It is our goal to graciously accommodate all of our visitors. We are extremely aware of creature comfort in the property. We welcome all suggestions for improvement to one's stay in the house.

Well maintained towmhouse good for families

Adventurous Campbell, California
Review Submitted: July 14, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a pleasant stay at this property. Kids enjoyed the flat screen tv / cable. Property was clean and well maintained and owner stays right across and is very hospitable. He was very accommodating and helpful. The metro is around 6 blocks, if you have seniors with you it'll be quite a walk and maybe look into taking metro bus which is right round the corner. Garage parking is kinda tight for 2 cars but owner was very helpful in letting us park one car in his driveway. Overall good value for your money.

I did not find a coffee shop close by if you love your early morning coffee you're better off making it in house
Owner's Response: There is two coffee shops near by(two blocks, First and Rhode Island ave, and a second coffee shop ,internet cafe on first and R St. NW. There is a corner store that sells hot coffee and variety food goods. Our goal is to have a home away from home for our clients. We appreciate your comments so that we may better serve all visitors.Thank you.

Our DC stay

Review Submitted: May 18, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Our family traveled to DC for National Police Week and we were very satisfied with our choice of where to stay. The only negative would be that two of the bedrooms were quite small, but as this is an older home, that should have been expected. The neighborhood was lovely, the location absolutely perfect with easy access to the Metro and all attractions. The owners were extremely hospitable and went above and beyond the call to take good care of us. I would recommend this home as an excellent value, and we found it to be very comfortable...great beds, baths, kitchen. Our stay was much enjoyed.
Owner's Response: It is our intentions to provide a excellent home for all visiting the nations capital. We want our guest to feel very comfortable, welcome and desired. Our bedroom sizes are 14X11 ft.with queen size bed. second bedroom 13x11 with queen size bed. Master suite 18x14 with king size bed and marble bathroom with stand up shower and jacuzzi tub. Lower level large master suite with king size bed and futon. Large sitting area, TV, and surround sound.

Great Place to Stay

On the Road Again North Carolina
Review Submitted: May 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
My extended family (9 people in all) and I stayed at this home for a week in mid April. We were very pleased with the property and felt we were getting a great value for the money.
* The owner lives right across the street & was very accomodating & available without feeling too intrusive.
* The property has a lot of space & it was great to feel like we could spread out. It is an older, renovated home so the flow of the rooms is not what you'd find in a typical, modern home. There are multiple, smaller rooms as opposed to less, large rooms. There are very nice, large tv's in all the bedrooms, but no tv in a living room. However, the home had a lot of character & charm and we appreciated the overall feel.
* I agree with the previous reviewer that the basement should be reconfigured to put the bed in the back and to move all the couches to the front by the t.v. in order to create a media room feel.
* The kitchen was well stocked. There were plenty of nice linens. Dishwashing soap, laundry supplies, maps & guidebooks were provided.
* The house is a short walk to the metro (probably about 5 - 6 blocks). Although, we didn't take it, there is a bus stop just a few houses down. We drove to a nice grocery store that was just about a mile & a half away. We felt that we were conveniently located to everything we needed.
* The only real problem we had was with the garage. Garage parking was definitely nice as I know a lot of rentals don't have that. We felt our cars were secure while in the garage. We had two cars that are both quite wide & low to the ground. Both cars fit in the garage, but with just inches to spare on each side. We had to load & unload passengers and luggage in the alley outside of the garage. The biggest problem though, was that our cars consistently scraped their undercarriages (in a big way) when going into the garage as there is a bit of an incline. I don't think this would have happened on vehicles a little higher off the ground, but for us it was significant as parking and pulling out became quite a hassle as we tried to eliminate damage to the engines. Again our cars sit really low. If you have a similar car, I'd suggest taking another vehicle if possible.
* All in all we really enjoyed our stay. We had 3 families (including 3 very active children) and we had plenty of room. The house was clean & the owner very eager to make us happy. The price was extremely reasonable. We would definitely stay there again!
Owner's Response: It is our desire to have a great home away from home for all renters. We aim to please all. We like to meet and greet all renters upon arrival. For renters comfort we have a oversize rear deck and large propane barbecue grill. We will try to rearrange the bed in the basement.

A Home Away from Home

Edie & Craig Chicago, IL
Review Submitted: January 31, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
We rented this property for the week of the presidential inauguration. It was very clean and very well stocked with amenities and supplies. The owner even provided a computer with internet access to make local searches & booking reservations easy. The house was well appointed with more than enough furniture and art. Provisions were provided for everything we needed for a week away. We simply drove to a nearby grocery store for food and then cooked at home(away). It was a great cost saving alternative to eating out every day for every meal.
The owner lives close by so when a special request was made for a space heater, they brought one over right away.
We had a wonderful time and would definately stay again with a large group. Some helpful suggestions for the owner would be to reconfigure the basement suite so that the bed is at the rear of the room. This would provide guests with a common space which has a television since there isnt one on the main level. It was an unusually chilly week in DC, and as Chicagoans, we were ok with it but, the space heater (or two) was definitely necessary in the basement during our stay. Lastly, I understand the cost of providing a printer might get out of hand but it would have been helpful for printing boarding passes, directions, etc.
All in all, I would recommend this property for a large group of family or friends.
