A Haven in the Great North Woods!

Moosez Epping, NH
Review Submitted: September 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
This log home was the perfect place to stay with lots of privacy, beautiful scenery, and was very peaceful. The house has everything you would ever need when visiting the Great North Woods. The home is beautifully decorated and very warm. There are no details left out for a comfortable stay. The home is located close to the lakes, rivers, trails, and wildlife. The dogs loved lounging on the screened in front porch and around the fire pit for the nightly fires. The foliage is starting up north and it seemed there were more colors emerging every day. Fishing was not too bad either. This place is great for anyone and any age. We will definitely be coming back for another visit at Ken and Pam's wonder Haven in the Great North Woods!

North Woods Moose Fest 2009

Ben & Madeline Pennsylvania
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We booked this wonderful spot in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire in anticipation of being in the area for their 18th annual Moose Festival. As we pulled up the driveway and saw The Owl's Nest, we knew we were in for a treat. The place simply beckons with charm, comfort, serenity and beauty. It was a pleasure to listen to the quiet! We attended every activity for the fest in Pittsburg, Colebrook and West Stewartstown, NH and also events over in Canaan, VT, returning each day to our little piece of heaven in the woods. We even saw a bull moose! The fishing was great for rainbow trout...we tried and enjoyed fishing in each of the Connecticut Lakes. We also scouted around in search of the elusive moose herd, seeing the loveliest of nature and real beauty in the most out of the way places. The restaurants, gift shops and local folks were terrific...we couldn't have asked for more! Our campfires at night were delightful...is there anything nicer than a lovely moon and roasting marshmallows by firelight? The accomodations were terrific, with a great kitchen for cooking. The screened porch afforded us lazy times curled up with a book in the welcoming comfortable chairs and loveseat. If you are looking for serenity, privacy and peace in a wooded setting as well as the beauty of nature in a welcoming place, The Owl's Nest is the vacation retreat you are looking for. The Hodgson's are welcoming and attentive to this lovely place as well as to their guests...and this genuine caring is reflected throughout your stay there. We loved every minute and hope to return again to this treasure in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire. We are in our early sixties and considered this one of our best vacations ever. We give it a perfect 10!!!

wonderful!

I just had my second stay at the Owl's Nest & thankfully this stay was longer than the first. The first stay was a long weekend & we were excited to come back for a whole week! Ken & Pam are such kind, informative hosts - they know where every thing is in the area & the Owl's Nest is immaculate & fully equipped for whatever your needs may be. The kitchen is amazing!

We fished Indian Stream; golfed at the Colebrook Country Club & the Balsam's - both are nearby and gorgeous.... walked down to Garfield falls - which is beautiful & hiked to the fire tower on Mt. Magalloway. The view is breathtaking from up there! My husband saw a moose just around the corner from the cabin on his way to one of his early morning fishing excursions.

We spent alot of our time on the huge screened in porch & you will never see so many stars on a clear night.... it's like diamonds on satin. We also enjoyed making smores at the fire pit. Can't wait to go back!

Thanks Ken & Pam for making our vacation spectacular by having this wonderful cabin available to us :)

We stayed at the Owl's Nest for a week during the Summer, it was the perfect getaway! The cabin is extremely clean, spacious, and very charming. Ken is so helpful and cordial we felt comfortable to ask him any questions about the area. It is truly a perfect cabin to relax and get away from it all. It's location is absolutely picturesque. We had a awesome time we loved it so much we didn't want to leave. Can't wait to go back! See you soon:)

Our Summer week at The Owl's Nest

Shan35 Andover, CT
Review Submitted: August 12, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent a week at Owl's Nest in early July. We had planned to do a canoe trip after on the CT River but it was too high from all the rain. We really enjoyed our stay. We did some hiking and saw Garfield Falls, Indian Stream Gorge and many ponds. Garfield Falls is a nice short hike to a breathtaking waterfall. Of the ponds, Scott's Bog was especially pretty with mountains in the distance. We hiked to two vistas, one was Table Rock near Balsams Resort and the other was right near the cabin in Pittsbug called Magalloway Mountain Fire Tower. I highly reccomend this hike, although it is a bit steep (both vistas climb 500 ft in 1/2 m) it is well worth the effort. Spectacular views of all the CT Lakes and mountains. You can go up in the fire tower and if there is an attendant as there was when we were there you can even go up to the top deck. My son fished in all of the CT Lakes including Foruth Lake which is a bit of a hike, but as we are from CT it was really neat to see where "our" river originates. While at the cabin we enjoyed great meals and just really loved the place. Ken has screened in the porch which is fantastic and built a firepit which is also really great. The pictures of the place speak for themsleves, it is really just as nice, clean and comfortable as it looks, even better! Everything is new and you have all the conveniences of home including a full size washer/dryer. We really appreciated bringing our dogs with us as they are a big part of our family. The owners are both very nice and helpful and Ken is exceptionally friendly and was an absolute pleasure to do business with in every way. My husbamd and I are hoping to return pssibly during an autumn season as we also stayed at this cabin for a short time in spring. I cannot say enough about this rental and Ken... I highly reccomentd this place to anyone who wants to get away from it all in The Great North Woods."

Ken, Your place is a palace in paradise!!! Your cabin is one of the nicest, largest, cleanest and well maintained I've ever had the pleasure of staying. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the entertainment area top notch. I highly recommend your place to any family or group of fisherman visiting Pittsburg!

Great Place To Stay!

Review Submitted: July 2, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
I stayed here during the summer and didn't want to leave! The Owl's Nest is a wonderful vacation cabin. Located in a prime area just beyond First Connecticut Lake, this cabin really feels like a home away from home. Everything you could want or need while experiencing the Great North Woods is here, and for the price is a steal. The owner truly cares about your comfort, has thought of everything you could want or need, and the layout makes it a perfect vacation home. I can't say enough about this place - I will be coming back every chance I get.
