Our Southbank apartment, in the new heart of London, is 100 yards from The Thames behind The OXO Tower between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge.

Our apartment is on the first and second floors of a small, modern block of 16 apartments. The first floor comprises of a living room with sofa bed (suitable for a child or teenager) and full kitchen. There are patio doors onto a beautiful, planted deck with a table and chairs for al fresco dining. There is also a double bedroom and shower room on this floor. On the second floor is an en suite master bedroom overlooking the garden deck. There is an elevator.

We are very close to the cultural heart of London including The National Theatre, Hayward Gallery, Royal Festival Hall, National Film Theatre, Tate Modern, Globe Theatre and The London Eye. There are lots of places nearby to eatand drink to cover all tastes abd budgets.

Location: We are ten minutes from two tube stops (Waterloo and Blackfriars), which have 5 lines between them as well as British Rail services. For the most picturesque walk along The River, we use Embankment Station, which takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on how many photos you take!

Eating: We have plenty of places nearby to eat including four very good restaurants in The OXO Tower, which have great views. There are lots of less expensive restaurants within a short distance, many overlooking The River, and a couple of pubs on The River that serve food and drink throughout the day.It truly is the best location in London!

Superbly located London apartment

Submitted: April 10, 2011 Stayed: April 2011
Superbly located apartment a stone's throw from the London Eye, with many of London's top attractions within walking distance. We never had to travel more than 6 tube stops to go anywhere that we wanted to go, including the O2, which we went to via a sunny boat trip on a Thames Clipper, and returned via the underground.

We were there on a sunny week, and the patio garden was greatly appreciated, as was the piano, which our 12 year old son loved.

There are lots of good local restaurants within 10 minutes, and Borough Market on Thursday, Friday and Saturday is fabulous for picnic fodder, fruit, cheese and mouthwatering cakes.

Apartment is well equipped and clean, with everything that we needed for our week's stay. Welcome groceries were much appreciated.

We will definitely book this again for our next trip to London.

Jubilee !

Submitted: November 14, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
I, and my two traveling companions, spent a wonderful Queen's Jubilee week in London in early June. The South Bank flat provided us with all that we needed and then some. Furnished and decorated in a relaxed, home-style manner- we were most comfortable. The Doris Day Pillow Talk poster is a lovely American touch ! In between rain storms, we enjoyed relaxing on the beautiful deck.

From this very central location, we walked to all the sights including those closeby and Covent Garden, Buckingham, Parliament, even to the British Museum. The walk across the Millenium Bridge to St. Paul's is exquisite. It really doesn't get much better than this. And for the special Queen's Boat Parade on the Thames, well, just a few steps away !

Writing about this is making me "home sick" ! I would heartily recommend this South Bank flat (and have already done so) and just hope I can visit again.
Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review and it would be lovely to see you all again in London soon.

Wonderful apartment, fabulous location

This two bedroom, two bathroom apartment was the best accommodation we could ever have hoped for in London. It has the best central location in fabulous
Southbank area, everything was so easily accessible. You are so close to all the main attractions, truly you could not get any better.
Our hosts were extremely accommodating and the apartment was beautiful including a decked garden which opened out from the livingroom. David provided many extras and had everything you could possibly need in a home away from home. In addition there was no noise considering you are so central.
I would recommend anyone to stay here, far better than any hotel.

Excellent Location, Charming

Our family of three (myself, husband, adult daughter) stayed in flat vrbo #191301 for seven nights in late May 2012. There was plenty of room for the three of us; as we travel on the cheap, it was a luxury to have private bedrooms with a separate common/living area. The kitchen/ living area was well lit, nicely set up and the kitchen had all of the appliances necessary to make our stay easy. We utilized the washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, KETTLE (must have morning tea), and certainly the refrigerator, availing ourselves of some of the basic groceries it contained. (Thank you, David)
We were able to check in early, which was a big help. David met us at the flat —
he was welcoming, informative and efficient, answering all of our immediate questions, and helping us with the internet issues we experienced, through more than a few phone calls. Thanks for your patience on that score, David. We made a short note in the notebook about the sequence of logging in and thereafter, though reception was spotty at times, we had no major problems.
The location of this flat was amazing - right off the Riverwalk, within easy walk of two tube stations (Blackfriars and Waterloo, although we mostly used Blackfriars), just a wonderful location. We walked to the Eye, to Westminster Abbey, sometimes unwinding by strolling along the Riverwalk. My only caveat is to be aware that it is a 10 minute walk to Blackfriars tube station and a bit further to Waterloo; we had no rain, but if we had, we would have learned the bus routes quickly. There is a bus stop just outside the door.
The outside space was lovely - and very welcoming. Having the natural light was wonderful in the common living area.
Some small issues we experienced/observed. The armchairs in the living area have seen better days — the seats were quite broken down, we ended up putting some of the throw pillows on the seats to make them comfortable to sit in. Our daughter (using the downstairs bathroom) said she ran out of hot water while showering a few times. Also the shower upstairs takes a bit of getting used to - the slope of the tub is quite pronounced, so be careful stepping in.

This flat gives you a lot for the rental cost. Truly wonderful location, a lot of space for a small group traveling together — we loved coming back to this flat! When we return to London, David’s flat will be the first we will check for availability.

My husband and myself and his 2 adult sisters spent a week at this flat. We were greeted early by David and he told us about the flat and about the local restaurants and attractions. The well cleaned flat has two bedrooms and a living area and an outside patio. The weather was cool so we did not have an opportunity to use the outside area but even though it is shared with other flats it was private. From the flat we walked to most of the local tourist areas or we used the bus system. The bus picks up on the street near the flat and drops off right outside of the flat. The kitchen was well equipped for us to make light meals and there was a washer dryer combo.
We would recommend this flat to our friends considering a trip to London.

Week Stay Before Our Transatlantic Cruise

5 of 5
Submitted: November 12, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
We arrived in London on August 24, 2012. There were two couples who stayed in David's home on the South Bank. The flat exceeded our expectations. David provided an unexpected surprise with providing coffee, cream, jellies, bread, cereal and milk. This is far and above what David needed to provide us as guests in his home. We were thankful for his thoughtfulness. The flat met all of our expectations and was comfortable, safe, and a nice home away from home. The outside space with the plants and shrubbery along with a table and chairs was a neat spot to hang out with a glass of wine at the end of a long day to recap our day's activities.

The two bedrooms and bathrooms were neat, clean, and comfortable. We slept well and enoyed the showers. It was particularly cool having the availability of a washer/dryer combination machine to enable us to keep us with clean clothes when needed.

The WiFi access was a bonus and provided me with a means to keep in touch with family which was important in light of my brother having surgery the week we were away. We were able to Skype him.

The location of David's flat was extraordinary in that we were about three blocks from the Underground. We were able to go every where we needed to go by underground and enjoyed walking along the Thames which was about two blocks from the flat.

The location was quiet. We felt secure. We would recommend you give it a try.
Owner's Response: Thanks so much Alice and hope you will stay with us again soon.

Perfect for families with children!

5 of 5
Submitted: November 12, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We are a family of 5 (our children aged 9, 10 ½ and 12) from Norway, who rented David’s flat from July 16th until 25th 2012 (going home the day before the Olympics). We had a great holiday and our children speak often about their fond memories of London.

In general, London is a fantastic city to visit with children, and we did our homework and planned our stay well. We had pre booked online tickets for quite a few attractions, and my children would like to recommend other children to go and watch the musicals Thriller and We will rock you. Madame Tussauds was good (be ware of the “scream” attraction) and is possible to combine in a discounted ticket with the London Aquarium and London Eye, which we did. Having read and watched all Harry Potter books and movies, the visit to Warner Bros was one of many highlights for the young ones. Do not miss the nearby Tate Modern, London Bridge and St Paul’s and do go with your children to the Museum of natural history (by tube). In the run up to the Olympics, we were also lucky to visit 2 of the BT River of Music world stages – one at Trafalgar square and one at the London Pleasure gardens. We experienced London at its best!

The flat is superbly located near several attractions, and the neighbour area is an attraction in itself. Our evening walks along the Thames (from Waterloo bridge to the OXO tower), with the elegantly illuminated restaurants and buildings and the many skilled street artists, was a delightful daily experience. We simply didn’t have time to explore the programme of the nearby National Theatre or the Royal festival hall.

In view of all our activities in the city, we absolutely made the right decision by choosing to stay at David’s apartment, just a short walk from Waterloo station. We met David on our arrival, as he was filling the fridge with light food for breakfast and supper, and after a brief introduction to the facilities of the flat, we were feeling at home. At our own pace we could choose to stay until noon before embarking on the planned activities, or we could return in the afternoon for a brief stop before going out for the musicals. Our children relaxed in the compact living room or in their bed room, reading or playing games on iPods, or they would enjoy the nice garden.

Staying just there opened up the south bank and central London to us, which makes speed of Wi-fi or size of kitchen irrelevant to our experience of London!

Review title says it all. The location can't be beat, short walk to most of the major tourist sites. On top of that, David had stocked the fridge with enough breakfast items for a couple of days. I have recommended this apartment to friends that may be vacationing in London soon, and highly recomend it here.

The apartment is very attractive and spacious, and is as described by the owners. We have been here for 9 days and have been very comfortable here.
We have done a lot of walking, usually 5 hours a day and have reacquainted ourselves with this wonderful city.

The location is even better than we had anticipated, literally one minute away and you're on the South Bank and walking amongst many iconoclast sites that one sees in all the guide books, just fabulous.

We went to many local pubs and coffee shops and went twice to Jamie's Italian, once in Coventry Garden and once at Threadneedle Street, the food was superb.

David supplied some groceries and we stocked up other stuff we needed at Marks and Spencer's, all very easy.

London is a very walkable city, the bridges give easy access to all of London.
We will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending this flat to friends and family.
