Home away from home

Linda was the most incredible host and we had a fantastic vacation in La Jolla because of Linda's hospitality.
The house was spotless. The kitchen was stocked with absolutely anything you could possibly think of - from high-end appliances and skillets to a pantry that puts my own to shame (can you say four different types of rice to choose from?!).
There were three couples and a 2-year old in our party and we were all very comfortable.
There were boardgames, books, movies, music CD, and anything else you could possibly think of to help you be entertained for hours into the night. The cottage house was stocked with kid toys and books, including a beautiful wooden bike that our 2-year old fell in love with. It provided hours of entertainment and peace.
Linda left us her phone number and was always accessible for whatever mundane question we may have had. She also left us some great restaurant recommendations that we gladly used and went back to over and over again.
There is a really great supermarket, Vons, 5-minutes away from the house, walking distance which was extremely convenient.
A couple of things to note and why I deducted a star - the location is walking distance from the beach but it is a good 20 minute walk. If we didn't have a stroller with us, our 2-year old would have found it tiring. Just an FYI for those traveling with small children. Again, the stroll is absolutely gorgeous, along beautiful streets lined with shops and cafes, so nothing to complain about just not right on the beach.
Another thing to note is that the cottage in the back is not heated. After a night in the cottage we ended up calling Linda and within hours she had brought over a heater. So, from then on it was cozy. Again, just an FYI.
Finally, there was a lot of construction going on on the street. The one most upsetting was right next door which started from 7am and continued into the afternoon. Because our 2-year old wakes up at 7am anyways, that wasn't such an issue. The issue was with the daily naps. Not so easy with banging, torching and other construction noises. For families who tend to be away from the house during the day, this wouldn't have been such an issue so again, just an FYI. When I brought this to Linda's attention, she was most gracious about it and actually offered us an extra night of accommodation for free. We very much appreciated that.
I will be recommending this accommodation to others for sure and will gladly be back again!
