Photos and Description of the Bonassola vacation house rental
2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms , kitchen, living room, sleeps 4 people

Framura, 3 towns north of Cinqueterre, is a rural Ligurian town consisting of 5 traditional hamlets ( sub-divisions) divided between mountain and sea with views that it will take your breath away. Costa, a sub division of Framura has archaeological, historical and artistic points of view.

My house is on the piazza of the hamlet (or sub-division) of Costa which is set on top of a hill.

The house is my personal vacation house so I hope my renters will be respectful of my property.

If you enjoy interacting w/ the locals buying groceries or chatting at the local trattoria or if you are a creative person looking for inspiration, or want a quiet non-touristy place to stay, this is the place for you.

BASIC SPEAKING COMMAND OF ITALIAN IS REQUIRED as my cousin who takes care of house for me and will meet you at your arrival does not speak any other language expect Italian( I personally am in NYC )

Local bar/ Restaurants: A short walking distance up the road from the piazza of Costa is a neighborhood bar “Silvia” that serves alcohol, soft drinks, coffee and gelato and sells tobacco products and tickets for the ATC bus; it's open until midnight. This is a popular evening spot w/ Framura locals and vacationers; Silvia’s son Davide who runs the bar at night, speaks a little English and is a punk / R&R fan. Davide also now offers wireless connection if you have a computer.

Downstairs attached to the bar is Ristorante Silvia that is known for its seafood; I personally recommend the seafood appetizer

There is another restaurant Ristorante Meri next door that is known for its fresh homemade pasta dishes and elegant service; I recommend their gnocchi w/ pesto and their pansotti w/ walnut sauce.

Note that due to popularity of these restaurants, reservations esp in busy season may be required a day in advance.

Parking & Shopping: Parking on the piazza of Costa is restricted to residents; non-residents can park in the public parking space which is located up an incline near Ristorante Silvia.

Two times a week in the morning at 9pm...Tuesday & Friday , there is a truck selling fresh seafood that stops in the piazza of Costa. On Friday around 10-11pm there is a truck that stops on the piazza w fresh vegetables and fruit

There are two grocery stores in Setta that sell bread, oil, eggs, dairy, meat, vegetables, fruit, wine and basics like laundry soap.

Gastronomia Enrica has prepared foods like stuffed mussels, seafood salad, vegetable torts, top quality cheeses, local products like pesto, salami, vegetables, fruit and focaccia; in the warm weather, there is a garden spot w/ tables and chairs for eating.

Alimentari Maria Rosa Bennati has similar products; no prepared foods but a larger selection of cheeses, cold meats, and has products such as goat’s milk and whole grain bread.

Misc : At the local bar located near the food stores in Setta, one can get international newspapers including the International Herald Tribune (which is published by the European offices of the NY Times), postcards, pens, writing materials, Italian magazines and books.

The post office, the pharmacy and an ATM are located in Setta.

There are other very small stores in Setta for clothing, basic sporting goods and hardware.

We enjoyed our stay in Framura very much. Views are spectacular, it's a short bus ride to the train station and then only 10-15 minutes on the train to Cinqueterre. We went to a different town every day, also shopped in the hamlet in walking distance from the house and cooked many great meals in the evenings.
The house is cozy and comfortable and Framura is a great place in which to practice your Italian, even if its rudimentary.

Owner's Response: Ah but one should not forget to take the Via de Amore path from Riomaggiore to Manarola when you visit the towns of Cinqueterre; you are walking on a paved shelf on the mountains facing the Mediterranean, the shades of blue between the sea and the sky are breathtaking.

Dear Vittoria,
I just wanted to tell you how much we have appreciated our stay in Costa. The house was perfect for our needs. Franca was really really nice. My daughters were playing every night on the piazza with new Italian friends. It was lovely. The surroundings are just incredible. Your tips on the life in Framura, the buses and merchant on the piazza and the alimentary and so on were very helpful.
Thanks so much for everything.

Owner's Response: Yes the postion of my house on the piazza allows you to see your children playing on the piazza.
There are a good number of children around esp during summer from families who return to their parent's/grandparent's town for vacation.

Italian apartment in Framura

What I liked most about this apartment was the location. Framura is a quiet, authentic area bordering the cinque terre. There is a small beach with crystal clear water that I loved, and you can walk to the next town for groceries that were as good if not better than in the next big town. If you are nice to the owner of the bar, David, and buy a few drinks from him in the Italian tradition of hanging out at the local bar, he might be inclined to let you use his WiFi. We were able to download a few movies and check emails from here and that worked out well for us. We also ate at the nearby restaurant Meri and that was excellent, but loved having a small kitchen to cook in, and a washer to do our laundry.

Owner's Response: I personally love Meri's pansotti w/ walnut sauce and there is also Silvia's which is known for their seafood.

Costa a place to remember.

We visited many places in Italy but this was our favorite. The house is charming. The views are spectacular. The local restaurants are friendly and the food fabulous. We walked to a small farm, Agriturismo "Foce del Prato", and had a spectular dinner with a view of the Mediteranean. The food was grown and prepared there. The walk to the farm from Costa was through the woods and offered views of the mountains.
Vittoria and her family are very helpful and friendly and will ensure you a memorable visit in an authentic Italian village.

Owner's Response: Personally I think the produce and seafood for Framura is the best in Italy.

Framura house

In 2005, I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely home. My best recommendation is that I plan to go back.

Each morning, you can walk down to the mediterranean for a swim. Then as you are either walking or driving back up to the house, you can stop in the village on the hillside and buy fresh baked bread and eggs.
Each evening, I would make a cafe latte and sit watching the sunset over the mediterranean.

The experience of staying there was totally transformative.

Great Little House in Idyllic Location

I'd lived in Italy and visited many times, but I never gotten closer to the everyday life of small town life in the Bel Paese than in Framura. The town is peaceful, set at the top of a mountain on the Ligurian Riviera. An amazing setting, and a comfortable house for a great price. I could see a 1000 year-old church from the kitchen window, and had a view of the mountains from the bedroom.
