This property is truly paradise. It was exactly the special place we were looking for. Safe, clean, well maintained and very peaceful. The welcome sign to us when we arrived was a special touch. Marlee the owner provided us with great information of the area. Thank you for sharing paradise with us.

Moonrise Cottage was truly Magical!

I live in the Bahamas and have traveled far and wide, but there is something indescribably wonderful and magical about Moonrise.. when we pulled up to the dock of this sweet cottage perched on a lush green hill overlooking the bright blue ocean, our smiles began. we ascended up the sand dollar shaped stepping stones, past the grassy, fairy tale hillocks and the lovely screened in bedroom, with it's decoration of translucent ancient sea bottles, shells and driftwood and made our way up to the balcony for a breathtaking view of the ocean and Elbow Cay. Here we could not help thinking “wow.. what a precious find!” The kitchen and living room was open and airy, with endless views. As we sat on the balcony to enjoy our sunset cocktails, we were joined by a flurry of delicate, little yellow feathered birds that came to sip on some fruit jelly we set out on the railing.. they sat amongst us without fear.. and added extra magic to the scenery..
During the day it was so easy to zip to Hope Town on our little boat to enjoy the candy cane striped lighthouse and the quaint town. Our evenings at Moonrise were spent barbequing on the balcony as the sun went down, and then sitting by the bonfire for some good tunes, off key singing and lots of laughter.. we explored the shorelines for sea treasures in the mornings and jumped off the dock for a cool off in the afternoons. At night we slept like babies in the ocean air… there was never a dull moment.. thank you Moonrise for bringing us such unforgettable memories! We will be back!

After our week long vacation, it is so hard to describe Moonrise, it is a combination of the simple times, time for yourself, time to watch finch birds taking times to drink and eat, watch the curly tails here and there, take time to watch a hermit crab, basically time to do the things that we forgot existed, the life that goes around and we don't notice, this cottage has the ability to heal your soul and clear you mind, the night sky and the sound of the waves it is refreshing and therapeutic.
You routine becomes yourself, nature and your new method of transportation - your boat, I brought a Garmin marine GPS that was an excellent companion, cay hopping is the most amazing experience in life, learning the story of the Abacos is fascinating, talking to the locals and their legitimate interest to enlighten you is amazing, this experience reminds me of a movie called "The Trumman Show" but the difference is that this is real, Hope town one of the close cays is like that, but you are living it., Guana Cay, Man-O War are other cays we visited, their distinct character and story will leave you amazed.
I travel extensively for work and leisure, and have seen most of the caribbean islands, but The Abacos cays are a secret paradise that only a few know, then you add Moonrise to the mix and you will get an unforgettable experience.
This has been the first time in my life that when I saw the coast of Florida my heart was broken, the other half was left in The Abacos, Marlee will make sure you enjoy your journey, go and experience this amazing adventure for yourself.

Our Great Escape!!!!

Cannot even begin to tell you how beautiful these islands and their waters are!!!!! Moonrise is amazing!!!! Slip back into simplier times at this property.....enjoy and be a part of nature! The cottage is well built, has all the necessary comforts. The bedroom downstairs was amazing, bed was comfy, trade winds kept us cool at night and the sound of the ocean waves lulled us to sleep! We loved the garden shower........Marlee has taken great care to make sure that every experience at the cottage is simply enjoyable! Make sure to listen to the morning radio show on the radio upstairs in the cottage, they provide great information and weather. Enjoy the birds and the curly tails!!!! There is even a resident family of hermit crabs!!!! It is so peaceful and private!!! A short walk through the forest takes you to the other side of the island to your own private beach and it is breath taking!!!!! Totally private and such an adventure in itself.....we walked for hours just looking at starfish, sting rays and sea turtles!!!! The water is the most beautiful we have seen and we are well travelled in the Caribbean. Cracker P's is a must and almost next door to this property. Food is amazing, atmosphere so friendly and accomodating......tell Patrick and Linda, we sent you! Thanks to an amazing boat rental from Seahorse rentals, we explored every day!!!!
All in all this was one of our top vacations!!! We will be back!!!
Tip to those that like to fish......take your fishing gear with you. More comfortable to fish with gear you are familiar with. We got most of our information from the locals about where to fish, where to explore in the boat, where the daily happenings were.......this vacation is a week must!!! Actually you need more time than that to explore and see everything.....but that just means you can plan another trip to "Moonrise"......right?????

Thank you for our memorable "Islands in the Stream" experience. I reach for words to fully describe our trip to Moonrise, and they don't seem adequate. Beautiful, tranquil, private, romantic, sensous, soothing, stunning....
Part birdhouse, part beach combers cottage, complete with our own beach. Wonderful. Quietly spectacular. Perfect.
Our paradise quietly felt like home - must feed the birds and make sure "Lizzy" isn't in the sink again - the ease of cooking in the well equipped kitchen ---and yet we weren't home, we were in our own piece of paradise.
The birds went through 2 jars of grape jelly, cups of sugar water, and applesauce in our week. Yet always the point man would perch almost atop me to be sure I knew dishes needed refilling!
I was more than happy to oblige.

Eco Friendly Paradise Found

Nestled among the palms and natural foliage of Lubbers Quarter's Cay lies the true island paradise that is Moonrise. Located on a tract of land that traverses the island from sea to sea, Moonrise is a nature and seclusion lovers dream. Accessible only by boat, we arrived at the private dock and were greeted in the all solar cottage by a personal welcome package as well as a refrigerator stocked with our favorite local beer! The place was neat and clean as a pin and Marlee, the sweetheart of an owner, had already met us ahead of time and given us all the information we would need for food, fun, and adventure for the week. Lubber's is a small island of private homes and one really cool bar called Cracker P's. Also a short boat ride away is the Abaco Inn, a great place for a nice dinner. Hope Town is about 15 min. away for all your grocery and shopping needs as well. But the best by far is Pete's Pub & Gallery in Little Harbor. Ask Marlee how to get to it. Several things that will make your stay more pleasurable. Bring your own GPS with charts of the area and know how to use it. Even if your rental boat says it has a GPS, trust me, you'll be glad you brought your own. Bring a hand held VHF radio. All cab companies, restaurants, and most businesses use VHF as much as phone. And most important, don't skimp on the boat. You want a 17-22' deep V with good Hp. That will get you where you want to go when want to go without a lot of banging when the chop picks up. I would recommend Moonrise to anyone who really wants to get away from it all and live the true out island lifestyle. For the record, my wife and I spent our honeymoon here and have visited many times and shall many more!

Isolated splendour

If you've ever dreamed of living in peaceful solitude on a beautiful tropical island, Moonrise is the place to do it. Wake up in the morning to the birdsong of its permanent residents and the chatter of geckos, take a stroll at sundown along your own beach and go to sleep at night in the glow of the moon and the stars.
It doesn't get any better than this. I wish I were there right now. Thanks Marlee.

Return to Paradise-Robinson Caruso Adventure Style

The weather was divine in May and the screened sleeping room allowed the breezes to flow upon us as we fitfully slept each night (not even the fan was needed)! This property is beautiful and allows one to experience a serenity of the deepest level. Take the unkempt path to the beach and feel like you're discovering a spot where no one else has ever been! Lay on the dock at night and gaze up at the stars-what a stellar experience! The upstairs house is roomier than it seems in the photos, the porch and hammocks are wonderful. We cooked on the grill and used the gas stove-there are plenty of provisions and spices for use. The bathroom facilities are quite modern enough, and going outside to use them is part of the experience-just perfect!
Lubber's Landing is just down the way is an a friendly, low key, little bar and restaraunt with lovely hosts and a beachy area with lounges and a sofa on the dock. You can catch some food, drink and music at Cracker P's too-both very close by.
SeaHorse boat rentals allowed us to get an 18' Albury which was efficient with gas and was all that was needed to cruise around all the little cays, from Treasure Cay down to LIttle Harbour. Plenty to see on your own-grab a magazine and ask the locals; walk around each island and/or rent a golf cart (esp on Hope Town), snorkel at the reefs, oh, and be sure to get the Guide to Cruising the Abacos-essential for avoiding rocks, reefs and sandbars while boating, plus it provides places to go, things to do, where to get groceries, etc.
We did not want to see many people, have a tour guide, be on a populated beach or stay in a concrete structure-MOONRISE fit our desires and will always have a place in our hearts (really, it's that kind of experience!). Marlee is a wonderful person to deal with-rest assured, this person and this place will meet and exceed your expectations!

Don't go this property! Because if you do you will experience true paradise. Then, you'll tell all your friends about it and they'll want to come. Next thing you know, everyone will want to experience the same bliss that is found here and it will be hard to book. So, please...don't come. But if you can't resist the lure of the most private beach blanketed with powdery white sand and crystal clear water or the lush, winding path leading to it, or the heavenly garden shower the softens your hair with rainwater, or the Robinson Crusoe style of living off the grid, or the sway of a hammock, or hangin with the locals....the birds and curlytails, or, island/bar hopping than come to this paradise by all means. BUT! Don't tell anyone else...ssshhh; it's a secret!

I came to Moonrise in February as a guest to my sister's wedding held there. Part of me never left again. Moonrise worked it's magic on us all. Since we had too many people sleeping in the cottage, I pitched a screen tent and slept on the private beach every night. I have never known such peace and beauty. I dream of returning and spending time there with my husband soon. Moonrise is an unforgettable experience. If you are lucky enough to meet Marlee, your stay is complete. I'll never forget this lovely, charming and hilarious woman and look back fondly on the times spent in her company. If you love the extraordinary vacation spot, this is it.
