HEADWATERS OF THE WEST BRANCH OF THE PENOBSCOT RIVER - EXCELLENT SALMON AND TROUT FISHING!

In the heart of the North Maine Woods, off the beaten path, but easily accessible from the 'Golden Road', is a cabin (we call it 'Camp') on a lake with an amazing view of Mount Katahdin. Crystal clear Caribou Lake is steps away from the front door of this spacious Camp that sleeps 12 comfortably in cozy, well-appointed bedrooms. There are Inviting common areas for dining, socializing, gaming, reading or just lounging by a roaring fire. The brand new scandanavian style sauna and wood-fired hot tub are a wonderful way to relax at the end of an adventure filled day in the Maine Woods! Imagine watching the snow fall over the lake with a cocktail in hand while soaking in the hot tub or rolling in the snow after a good sweat in the sauna...'sigh'.

The Camp is woodsy, yet modern, with knotty pine decor, an impressive stone fireplace, and all the (necessary) conveniences, including large modern bathrooms. Though there is no phone, cable television or internet access (but, that's the point isn't it?) there is a solar powered electrical supply with generator back up to support smaller electrical appliances.

It is perfect for large extended families, a group of families or friends, hunting or snowmobiling parties and smaller corporate group meetings. There is something for everyone to enjoy- no matter your age or skill level. You and your group will have a memorable experience in this beautiful place that offers the best of the Maine Wilderness Experience.

In the winter, drive your snowmobile right from the front yard on miles and miles of pristine frozen lake, or watch your kids snowmobile right out in front of the cabin. We are located within minutes of Maine's ITS 84 groomed snowmobile trails which give you access to virtually the entire state! Caribou Lake offers some of the best ice fishing around and downhill skiing is available in Greenville 40 miles away.

Hunt in the Fall- deer, moose, bear, black powder, bow hunting, whatever your pleasure. If you have never seen the Fall colors in the North Maine Woods, well, you're in for a treat! Spring and Summer- fish for land locked salmon right out of Caribou Lake or hit the streams and ponds around the area for some of the best trout you'll ever eat. Swim, canoe, kayak, power boat, jet ski- bring all your toys!

Your host is an avid outdoors man and registered Maine Guide who can offer his suggestions for getting the most our of your North Woods experience. His Maine Guide services are available for an extra charge. Also offered at an additional cost, is a delicious, satisfying meal plan that can be arranged and provided for your group.

We have another rental option on property for smaller parties. We call it 'Tree Tops'. It is a 3 bedroom carriage house above our boat house/storage area, sitting in the canopy. It has a peaceful balcony facing the lake with lounge chairs, BBQ grill and a small eating area. Tree Tops sleeps 6 adults comfortably, there are futons for children (4 max) in the main living area, it has a full bath and a full kitchen. Our rates for Tree Tops are $1,500 per week, $250 per day (2 day minimum) and $695 per weekend. Same payment terms as main cabin. $400 secuirty deposit and a $300 cleaning fee. Pet deposit required as well- $500.

Phone contact is our first preference given that we have no email at Camp, but check our messages frequently and respond as soon as we do.

Great Large Family Getaway

Submitted: January 17, 2012 Stayed: July 2011
Our extended family (including our Scottish Terrier) spent the first week of August 2011 at this remarkable place. Although not exactly easy to get to, our efforts were rewarded. The setting is spectacular, the amenities were extraordinary considering the remoteness of the location, and our hosts managed to balance their availability with a willingness to let us be to ourselves. There was plenty of room for all of us (10 altogether) and we could be as active or laid back as the mood suited us. The absence of cell phone coverage and internet access was welcomed by the adults and tolerated surprisingly well by our children. Highly recommended!

Best Lake Vacation in Maine (Hidden gem!)

5 of 5
Submitted: July 5, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
I had the honor and privilege to vacation at this lake house in the middle of June with my dear friends. To my delight this was the best vacation in Maine I have ever experienced. The owners were wonderful and hospitality flourished to the highest traditions of exceptional courtesy. I would highly recommend this piece of heaven and consider it a hidden gem with a true taste of Maine. You will not get the same experience staying at a cabin, hotel, B&B or camp ground. If you want the best, its the best place to stay in the area!

As far as fishing, you have the best salmon and brook trout fishing in your back yard plus rivers, other lakes and ponds nearby. This is absolutely a place to bring your wife, kids and family and simply relax. Baxter State Park is very close too.

The owners family also owns a float plane company so the only regret I have is that I never took a float plane trip from the house or took enough photos. We were so occupied fishing, sightseeing and having a blast that it never crossed my mind.

I highly recommend this vacation destination for city folks, Mainers , family members and fisherman! We felt like family and were treated like family (serious). My wife and I cant wait until we vacation on Caribou again!

This is a great rental location. The owners are very helpful with everything and even helped provide some wild venison for us to rotisserie.
The place really has everything you could want in the Maine woods... wood fired sauna, hot tub, canoes, kayaks, and a gorgeous lake right outside the back door.
We went up here for a bachelor's weekend with about 8 guys and everyone loved it. There was more than enough space for all of us to sleep.
Very highly recommended, we may even go back for my bachelor party!
