Great for Groups
All the general impressions of loveliness that other reviewers have shared are accurate. Here are a few additional, more specific perks. First, the arrangement of rooms lends itself well to big groups. The kitchen, living room, and fireplace all occupy the same area of the house. People cooking, people stoking fires, people changing the music, people making snarky comments on the couches are all within in 15 ft of each other. It's great. The house is essentially a rectangle. The kitchen/living/dining occupy one end of the house and the bedrooms occupy the other end, sort of in a line. This proved helpful because those who had to get up earliest slept in the farthest room, relatively isolated from any revelry that continued late. The house is well stocked with games, blankets, firewood, spices, etc. We didn't spend much time exploring the property behind the house, but did romp about in nearby forests, rivers, etc. Fishing and hiking were both only half an hour a way (and I believe there were even closer options).
I'll write again here what I wrote in the guest book: "Came up here with a close crew of friends; because of this house we're even closer."
