Cozy home at the last minute
My group of 6 adults needed a place on short notice (less than a week) and luckily found this place through Homeaway. The owner, Vernon, responded almost immediately to my inquiry and was always easy to get a hold of by phone or email. After confirming the reservation the same day I found the home, Vernon offered to hand deliver the keys and paperwork which was a welcome surprise (me and Vernon both live in the Bay Area and if you do, check with Vernon).
The home itself is very cozy and only minutes away from Hwy.50/Lake Tahoe Blvd but still tucked away to avoid traffic noise. The home's neighborhood is very quiet but not in a creepy way; most of the homes seemed to be homeowner-occupied and my group would get smiles and waves from the neighbors. Personally, I'm glad that the house is carpeted throughout, especially with it being winter and my feet stayed warm. Once you walk in, you're greeted by the entry/gameroom complete with a foosball table and full-sized futon. There's a bench to sit and remove your boots and a coat rack as well. The living room was more than big enough to accommodate my group with comfy furniture while we watched movies, played video games, and listened to music.
The walkthrough kitchen was nice, separating the living room from the dining room. Vernon wasn't kidding when he told me he's been cooking his whole life, the kitchen was filled with all the cookware and utensils you'd need to cook a big meal and save money (which is exactly what we did for breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
The bedrooms featured comfortable beds, TV's, and plenty of closet space.
The hot tub could fit our whole group and although it's right outside the dining room, the tub is surrounded by a fence to provide comfort and privacy for your group.
The Homeaway page states that there's two bathrooms but there's actually three, so no one has to wait. All the bathrooms were clean with bars of soap and towels waiting for us. One of the bathrooms next to the living room included the washer/dryer, making it easy to check on laundry while we watched TV and although there older models, Vernon maintains them well because they wash and dry quicker than my washer/dryer at home.
The house doesn't have a sterile feel that some other vacation rentals seem to have when you look at their pictures. Vernon actually uses this place himself and it's easy to see that he cares about the home. If you need a place in South Lake Tahoe, consider Vernon's home.
