Three friends travelled to Mexico. We arrived in Cancun in February, went to Merida for a week, then back to Cancun to pick up a rental car. Easyway Car Rental - it really was! THEN: heaven! We drove (easy drive) to Akumal, stopping at a large grocery story right on the highway in Puerta Aventuras to stock up. Following the directions provided with the rental packet, we easily found Casa Caribe. The pictures do not do it justice - the place is drop-dead gorgeous. We spent 10 nights there, one of us walking 12 minutes to Akumal Bay each morning for an early snorkel, accompanied on some days by one of the other two, when they did not go for early morning yoga sessions. Then the casual breakfast and morning lounge on the sandy area in front of the house. Or an excursion to Tulum...or just driving around looking at the ex-pat community in Chemuyil (sp?)...or looking for take-out chicken in the pueblo. But a lot of our time was spent at the Casa. The pool was perfect for cool-off dips in the afternoons and before bed. We never used the AC - the ocean breezes kept the house a perfect temperature. Chrisitna and her husband cooked dinner one night and we ate the amazing leftovers for 2 days! Christina also did laundry for us (we tipped her extra). Rhett - what a great manager. He was available to answer all of our questions and he never steered us wrong. He gave us the name of the greatest masseuse who came over twice for massages on the upstairs, ocean-facing roof deck. Talk about relaxing! He told us where to buy groceries, what to eat, the best times for popular places (like Tulum). He was like a living, breathing travel manual! Luis kept the place spotless and the drinking water bottle replaced. Silently. He was like this incredible ghost who just made the pool clean and the windows see-through and shrubbery trimmed. But if we needed him (like when we wanted to know where to rinse off snorkel equipment) - poof - he was there, huge smile on his face. The house itself is huge, with a large refrigerator and all the pots and pans and cookware to make dining in easy and convenient. Each bedroom has an attached bathroom which was very nice. The upstairs master is amazing, with a big soaking tub and a gorgeous deck. I slept up there (a reward for making all the travel plans) but we all shared the great amenities of the upstairs. The television area was comfy for watching the few movies we watched. The wi-fi worked well. We will definitely return to Casa Caribe.
