Amazing Destination

Review Submitted: July 19, 2007 Date of Stay: July 2007
We just returned from our vacation at the Palms. We had such a fabulous time. We were on our honeymoon, and it was the perfect seclusion location for that. Full body tans can be guaranteed.
Dont tell too many people, But Double Bay is probably the second most beautiful beach overall in Eleuthera. We dont want the secret to get out, or else it will be much harder to skinny dip next time we go.
This property is well equipped and maintained fabulously.
You cant beat the airconditioned bedroom for those hot Bahama Days.
Dont look anywhere else, just pick this property, and set your mind at ease mon...

Palms at Double Bay

Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My husband and I just returned from a week at Palms. It was just as pictured. The beach was beautiful and we only saw 8-10 people on it the entire week and those people were far off in the distance. If you are looking for solitude and you don't want to be where all the tourists are, this is the place. The locals were all very friendly and helpful. You can't drive far without seeing more beautiful beaches and gorgeous water. After just a day or two, we were already talking about returning. Loved it! Thanks for opening your home to the rest of us!

Simply the Best 1 Bedroom Villa on Eleuthera!

Review Submitted: March 10, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
We have been coming to Eleuthera for a few years and have checked out most of the villas for rent from one end of the island to another. The Palms is a delightful place, spotlessly clean and very well appointed. For the price, there isn't a better equipped 1 brm villa on a better beach anywhere else in Eleuthera.

We spent 10 delightful days at the Palms and only wished we'd have stayed there the whole time during our month's stay on Eleuthera. It felt like home and Leigh Anne and family have thought of everything to make your stay there trouble free and truly memorable. There are dozens of books, DVD's, stereo system, a kitchen that would make any chef happy, comfortable furnishings and all the little things one might ever need from hair dyer to sun screen! There are plenty of big beach towels, special beach chairs, a cooler, portable umbrella, snorkels and fins. The BBQ was great too as we preferred to eat in many nights. Mixing Margaritas a snap with a great blender on hand. Life was Good.

The villa is very romantic and secluded and the beach, a walkers paradise. We seldom saw a soul around. Double Bay is a delightful central spot and while there are several villas in the area, the Palms has a huge property and we neither saw or heard any neighbours. It was heaven!

As for the negative comments from previous tennants, we stayed in the villa right after they did and we were flaberghasted . Eleuthera is a charming little island and as many say "Not for Every One -Thank Goodness we might add, that's what gives it it's charm. Anyone expecting to find everything the same as the USA might be disappointed. No MacDonalds, No big nightclubs, no fancy hotels, just friendly warm folk living there who are always polite and helpful. Just what we wanted a quiet romantic getaway where the biggest decision of the day was what beach to visit or where to fish. Even that wasn't difficult as the beach just yards from the door, was the best we found during our month on the island. There was no garbage - only the odd flotsom that washed ashore from a passing boat and sorry it's not a Club Med were the beach is raked by staff every day,

Anne & Clyde are delightful and extremely conscientious as property managers and take care of your every request.

No see ums are found throughout the islands- use bug spray and close up at night to avoid them. For fun rent a 4x4 but the villa road in was quite good by island standards.

We'll definately book the Palms again!

Peace and Quiet

If I owned a property in paradise, this is what it would be. It is intimate and private and completely peaceful. The house is furnished with everything you need. Loved the wrap around porch and all of the sliding glass doors and shutters. The beach is natural and heart-breakingly beautiful. We spent hours at the beach reading under the shade of a palm tree, in the beach chairs that were thoughtfully provided. We could see every star in the sky and the Milky Way at night from our porch.
Clyde and Anne, the care-takers, were available if we needed them and the property was spotless. Thank you Leighann for making this house available for us.

Not the best choice!

Frederico Boston, MA
Review Submitted: January 30, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Well, the beach was beautiful except it was covered in trash, everything from plastic bottles, hard hats and flourescent bulbs!
The cottage was not maintained as it should have been. The shower knob was broken had to use a plyer. All the screens were ripped and the no-seeum bugs came in, the glass sliding doors didn't slide so it was difficult getting in and out. My husband had to put a lightbulb in outside or it was pitch black and he had to cut the bushes to get to the outside shower. Also there is no view from the cottage and a very bumpy dirt road in which is tough on both you and the vehicle.
Pictures can be deceiving! There are too many other choices out there. Not alot to do on this island, Harbour Island has more to offer!
Owner's Response: I corresponded with the guests immediately after their return, apologized for their dissatisfaction and contacted our property managers to investigate. The broken shower knob was discovered after the previous guest. The pliers made it functional. The plumber did arrive only to discover the shower wall would need to be broken into in order to replace the entire pipe, not just the handle. The plumber used epoxy to glue the handle on until it could be repaired upon their departure. The largest of the screen doors did have a small tear in the screen and oversized screening had been ordered. They don't normally stock it on the island. It was the only screen that had a tear. Only horticultural grade screen will keep the no-see-ums out, it also blocks the view and the breeze. We do keep the bushes more full near the outdoor shower, it keeps the area more private. Remote island roads are bumpy and natural beaches are not groomed of debris, which unfortunately does at times include things that drift in from the ocean besides seaweed. I’ve never seen the beach “covered” with trash. The sand and salt air make doors and windows stick. Most people who come to the more remote island settings understand these issues. It is never my intent to mis-represent the house, beach or island in any way.The remote, non-commercial atmosphere of Eleuthera is not for everyone.

Paradise on Earth

Charb's Windsor, Ontario Canada
Review Submitted: December 19, 2007 Date of Stay: November 2007
My husband & I enjoyed 8 days at The Palms on Double Bay. When we drove in the driveway, we already knew it was exactly what we were looking for. It offers you privacy, solitude, gorgeous scenery and plenty of time to recharage your batteries. The long walks on the beach can sure clear your mind. We only saw about a dozen of people walking the beach in the whole 8 days.
The care taker was very helpful with information about the cottage and surrounding area. The only drawback was they had hired help at the property for 3 of our days laying sod. We asked the caretaker not to have them come back to finish the job until after we left. If this had been discussed in advance of our trip, we might have been okay with this, but it did take away from the privacy for those 3 days.
The beach is the nicest on the island that we saw. Spend your time here instead of trying to find something better.
The kitchen had all the conviences of home and we cooked all our own meals.
I would highly recommend this property to others. The owners are very lucky to own a piece of heaven on earth.

Oleander perfumed air, the hum of the ocean against the pink sandy beach and rustle of warm sultry breezes through the Palms at Double Bay can't help but automatically cast a spell of relaxation and calm.
If you are looking for casinos, crowded beaches, and five star tourist traps- this is not the place for a vacation.
However, if you are looking for a vacation that is mellow, laid back and will leave you refreshed in body and spirit, this is definitely the spot.
Caring hosts, Leigh Ann and Tom, have made the Palms a comfortable oasis in the midst of the world's craziness. The cozy well-decorated cottage is divine, providing all the conveniences you will need for your vacation.
Eleuthera is certainly the best kept secret with a wide variety of uncrowded and deserted beaches to explore, not least the long sandy beach of Double Bay at the bottom of the garden path. Beautiful beaches and beautiful people populate the shores of Eleuthera making our vacation phenomenal. I can't wait to go back! Thank you so much Leigh Ann & Tom.

Glenn and I spent the week of August 15-23, 2005 at the Palms. Everything that has been said in the other comments is absolutely true! The cottage is beautiful, clean and has a beautiful path to the most private beach with pink sand and clear ocean waters. Abosulutely a wonderful place to go. We are already looking forward to future visits at the Palms! Thank you Leighann and Tom for having such a nice place that you are willing to rent! The caretakers, Ada and Doyle were most helpful during our stay.

My husband and I went to Palms-Double Bay for our honeymoon. It was the best two weeks of our lives! We had an amazing view right out our door. We had fun exploring the island, eating great food, and meeting really neat people. I would recommend to stay at this house, the beach was so secluded! Really it was amazing!!! The renters are really great there are books to help you around the island and great movies to watch if it rains. We have only been back for 3 months and are already wishing we were back there for another two weeks. Go and see for yourself just how amazing this place is!!!

Have fun!
