Family trip

Toodles Orangeburg SC area
Review Submitted: August 20, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Red Star Lodge. Betther than the pictures made it seem. It was very spacious, with enough private areas to accommodate large family gathering (9 adults, 2 babies ranging from 76 years to 7 months). The amenities were great...the only problem was with the air hockey table...we couldn't find the pucks. Other than this, everything was great. Loved everything about it. The hot tub was enjoyed by most all of us. We just enjoyed sitting around, reading, watching the great Tv's and even broke out some of your board games. We spent some time in Helen, visited Anna Ruby falls in Unicoi park and actually enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Unicoi Restaurant....it was wonderful for the buffet price of $12.95. We enjoyed one dinner at Blue somethin Grill in Clarksville as we found a brochure on it in your book. The food was great, but we were a little suprised that it was more of a "white tablecloth and fine china" place.
We also ate one day at the International Cafe on the river in Helen and it was average....not really spectacular. The area is wonderful and we just enjoyed riding different directions and seeing the countryside. We rode to the covered bridge one day and on another highway (I thnk it was #27) and saw some lovely scenery. I would recommend this Lodge to anyone.

Red Star Lodge is the tops!

The Red Star Lodge exceeded our expecations, it is even nicer than the pictures. The home has a wonderful layout and is roomy for a large family with children and dogs. My grandparents that are in their 80's came along, and the accomadations were perfect for them since there are wide doorways and a master suite on the main floor that has a bathroom attached and is close to the living area. The amenities are wonderful , beautiful stainless steel appliances, right down to a selection of movies for all ages (my 13 yr old was thrilled to see Star Wars!) It is centrally located to all the recreation that north Georgia has to offer and we took a day trip to Anna Ruby Falls which was gorgeous. From the moment we walked in we felt right at home. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Georgia again. My compliments to the owner for providing such a comfortable rental property, can't wait to return!

Dixie Hens Retreat

Dixie35045 Clanton, AL
Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This was our 5th Dixie Hens Getaway (six female cousins) and this was by far the nicest place we have stayed in. When we got to the bottom of the driveway and looked up at the house, all we could say was, "Wow!". The house is beautiful and there was plenty of room to spread out.
The hot tub on the bottom deck (complete with wine, cheese, and crackers) was a nice way to catch up with our families. Saturday night was our Game Night; we got some funny pictures featuring 50+ year old ladies playing foosball, pool, and air hockey.
The stainless steel grill cried out to be used. We cooked steaks, corn on the cob, and Texas toast on the grill, then along with salad and brownies, ate on the back deck our last night; then sat out on the top deck and watched a storm come over the distant mountain. We didn't have a chance to try out the firepit and make s'mores (maybe next time).
The beds were VERY comfortable- it was hard to get up in the mornings. The bathrooms are HUGE, and there were nice touches like scented Yardley soaps and thick towels.
The downstairs family room had a large TV connected to satellite, complete with DVD player and a supply of movies.
Helen was only about 10 minutes away. Betty's Grocery has a large variety of foods. We went tubing (check to see if there is a drought) and hiked to Anna Ruby Falls. The Nora Mill Granary has some great Georgia White Speckled grits, a huge variety of jellies and jams, and lots of other interesting items. You can also see the corn being ground. We enjoyed the sights outside of Helen better than Helen itself.
We ate at the Old Bavarian Inn (the food was so-so) and at The Attic in Clarkesville (the food there was very good, but a tad pricey). We enjoyed eating at the house much better. The kitchen was completely outfitted and was large enough for all six of us to be in it at once.
The owners were very nice to work with, answering emails and phone calls quickly.
This vacation place was a wonderful getaway. I would not hesitate to rent it again for a family gathering.

June 2009 Family Get Away

This was our first experience renting a cabin in the Georgia Mountains, but I can not imagine that there would be any place better than the Red Star. The Lodge was in wonderful condition and its amenities were above and beyond.

Our family group included 7 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs. We all fit comfortably (except for a couple of spider bites) in the facility and were even able to sit all together at the table for meals. The view was gorgeous and enjoyed thanks to the great outdoor furniture on the front decks.

And, man, were the steaks GREAT on that incredible gas grill out back!!! We even had a local dachshund stop by to keep us company while we roasted marshmallows and ate smores around the fire pit.

This cabin has everything, and the view is fantastic. My husband and I stayed here over memorial day weekend. The lodge has so many amenities (love the outdoor hot tub) and is also very convenient to the local sights. We can't wait to book our next stay.

awesome and private

I stayed in the lodge for my 30th birthday and it was absolutely the most peaceful place I could have chosen. The lodge was wonderful. Waking up to the most perfect view of the mountains was the best! We watched the sunset from the deck and enjoyed every detail. We loved the fact that it was private. The home was clean and well-maintained and there were great extras, like plush towels and soaps. Helen is only about 5 minutes away. We got steaks from a home town butcher and cooked out on the grill. I would recommend this cabing to anyone and would stay here over and over. Game room was awesome along with the huge flat screen televisions and of course there was wireless internet. Everything was perfect!

Great Stay!

My entire family stayed the weekend at the red star lodge and absolutely loved it! There were 8 adults and 5 children and we were able to spread out and enjoy the mountain scenery. The kitchen was spacious enough for us all to eat together and we sat around the outdoor fireplace to roast marshmellows at night. The back deck was the favorite spot for most of us, although the children liked the games downstairs and the hot tub, too! Definitely recommended!
