First of all, the condo was perfect for us! It was exactly as the landlord described it and it's location is perfect. Having traveled extensively in and out of the country, I consider myself a fairly good judge of lodging and this condo has what we wanted,i.e., location; on the beach, perfect proximity to Waikiki and all major shopping, restaurants, night clubbing, and sunsets. In speaking to one of my realtor friends, he suggested that instead of staying in a hotel, I should instead rent a condo and gave me VRBO website's address. I found this condo and it appeared just right for us. I contacted the owner, Phil, who was great and who responded immediately to my questions. I also read the 4 previous visitor's reviews of this condo and they were all superb with the exception of the May review, which frankly caused me to take a second look at this condo. I ultimately dismissed that 'biased' review.
The condo's kitchen is a full size kitchen and felt like being at home. It allowed us the opportunity to cook dinner and make lunches and enjoy time together. We really enjoyed the free high speed internet, it was fast, reliable and was great to have.. The surrounding area was peaceful and quiet and I loved that about the location. The Building is right on the beach so we took advantage of that and went swimming and snorkeling in the early mornings. Additionally, we liked the location because within minutes we could walk anywhere in Waikiki without having to drive, and we could avoid the heavy traffic congestion of Waikiki from the condo's location by driving in and out of Waikiki via Kapahulu Ave. It provided quick access to major traffic arteries that got us on our way to visit other areas of the Island. Another huge plus is that this condo comes with a private parking stall that did not cost extra. When one stays at any of the hotels in Waikiki, you will pay approximately twenty dollars extra a day for parking. Hawaii is blessed with its famous 'trade winds' which keeps the humidity mild and is one of the many reasons that makes Hawaii such a pleasant place to be. I highly recommend this condo. The Landlord was professional, kind and he made the whole experience a positive one from start to finish We plan to return. Aloha!

Perfect location

I stayed here with my husband and 2 children (6 and 8y/o) in July this year. We have both travelled to Hawaii before and knew that we wanted to be out of Waikiki and up close to the Outrigger Canoe club, Colony Surf is right next door. The sandy beach in front is protected from the sun til midday, great for us to play and read before the full strength of the sun hit. Snorkelling out front is lovely, saw a turtle every day. I surfed just out front with all the 'old men' who invited me onto their waves, a very pleasant change to some places we surf in Australia! We were lucky to have guest membership with the outrigger so enjoyed all of their clubs facilities plus stored my board there.
The apartment was actually bigger than we thought. My partner and I had the king size Murphy bed, Our 8 y/o the couch, and the 6 y/o on a blow up mattress. cable TV helped when we wanted some indoor down time. We hired a car and were so pleased to have a parking spot in the complex. The kitchen is fully equipped though could do with a pair of tongs. It is very clean and well furnished. The towels are delightfully thick and fluffy. The laundry is in the basement of the building with good quality coin operated washing machines and dryers. We would happily stay again.

Nice place to stay, great location.

This studio condo is a nice, relaxing place to stay on Oahu. I thought it was clean and nicely updated and the bathroom is spacious with lots of closet space so you don't have to live out of a suitcase. It has a full kitchen so you can make meals at "home" and stay in if you want to just relax after a day at the beach or sightseeing. You can watch beach volleyball down below at the Outrigger Canoe Club if folks are playing. The building is a basic apartment building with a nice lobby. The building does have an elevator but I would suggest anyone needing wheelchair accessibility might want to inquire further as there are 3 or 4 stairs in the lobby to get to the elevators. The building is oceanfront so it takes just a couple of minutes to walk from the studio down to the sandy beach out front to take a swim or lie in the sun. To me the location is quite ideal because it is not smack in the center of busy, noisy Waikiki; it's quieter closer to Diamond Head and just fantastic to be able to walk or jog along Diamond Head road with the views of the ocean below. There are several nice surfing spots and lots of great places for swimming, many restaurants, nightclubs, shops, etc. close by. It's about a 10 or 12 minute walk to Waikiki from the condo so there is no need to drive there and try to find parking. One of the perks of this rental was that it comes with parking for one car. Many rentals either don't come with parking or charge extra. The condo is near the Waikiki Aquarium and the Honolulu Zoo, both of which are in walking distance. I will look to rent this condo again when I get the chance to return to Hawaii in the future. Why rent a small hotel room with no kitchen if you can rent a studio condo? It's a cool home base for your Hawaii adventure.

Senior Citizen Has the Time of her Life!

I am a 74 year old retired teacher who loves to swim. My stay at this condo provided me with ideal conditions. Take the elevator down to the first floor, walk a few steps and there is the most beautiful protected bay like ocean that I swam in 2 or 3 times a day, swimming out to the marker (about 1/4 mile) and be sure to bring your mask and snorkle so you too can see that wonderful sea turtle who joined me one afternoon ( a sure sign of good luck the locals say). If you are a member of the Elks bring your card and walk two buildings down to their club and have dinner outside right on the waterfront. The trees that line the street outside are huge and the shade invites you to ride your bike of stroll downtown. It's near all the big fancy hotels and the food is way too delicious. My grandchildren played in the water and had so much fun and they were safe and happy. I intend to return as often as I can now that I've seen how the other half live...I bought a snorkle at their Walmart and saved money by buying groceries..and wine..the days of wine and if not roses, lovely leis were available.

Roach Motel - Owner has gone MIA on me.

It's with profound disappointment that I write this condominium review.
I personally work in the tourism industry on Maui and it's upsetting to me that there are condominium owners on VRBO who behave the way this owner has.
The story:
My girlfriend and I were booked for a stay in late May for some pleasure as well as business on my end.
All was going well until day 2 or 3 when we noticed some very peculiar bug bites starting to appear on our bodies. This wasn't overly surprising though, since this property is one of the only ones in the Colony Surf with absolutely no screens on the windows. Huge mistake to not install these on the owners part.
Over the course of the next few days, the bug bites started to rack up and we began fearing bed bugs or something else strange.
After some investigation around the unit, we noticed a HUGE amount of "roach traps" the owner (presumably) had placed.
We felt it wasn't bed bugs for sure based upon reading online and looking at photos, examples, etc.
Perhaps roach bites of some type?
Hard to tell. These were some of the strangest bites I've ever seen (and I'm an outdoors person for sure) and they just kept racking up on both of our bodies.
Finally, with 4 days left in our trip we were forced to leave the condominium and move to a hotel, where immediately things became better.
I contacted the owner while this was happening, just after the stay and multiple times since then.
I emailed him photos of the bugs, the bites, everything.
My security deposit is nowhere to found.
I've received no compensation for hotel stay.
This owner has simply taken our money, provided an awful experience, and run into hiding.
Finally, the listing is inaccurate.
There is no Wireless Internet as advertised.
The parking situation is different than described.
Gazebo? What Gazebo?
Also, apparently this is a "sneak rental" as you aren't supposed to even be renting units at the Colony Surf for under 30 days per house rules.
This was unbeknownst to me until talking around with others on the beach.
But worst of all of this is the tremendous lack of caring on the owners part for the comfort or well being of those staying in his unit.
There has never been a better example than this of why you should pay for the VRBO insurance plan.
I sure wish I had.
