Being at this cabin was so relaxing it was like you were actually at your own home. It had everything you could possible need at the cabin. Dubois and Clearfield being near by allowed you to step out and get a bite to eat if like to eat out. We were able to snowmobile right from the cabin how convenient. The fire at night just put you to sleep. Can not wait to go back.

Peaceful stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. There were nice trails to take walks. One morning when we were eating breakfast a doe walked around the cabin, the granddaughter was very excited to see that. We went to find elk 2 days and nights and got to see a lot of animals. The cabin was very nice we even started a fire in the stove in the cabin because it got chilly at night and it was so cozy to sit there and see the fire burning. When we had to leave everyone was so depressed,it was so nice to get away from tv,internet, and cell phone and just spend time with one another! Thank you for everything I would recommend you property to anyone and we hope to rent it again sometime!
Owner's Response: Sharon - I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at Cedarwood Lodge. Thanks for sharing the some of what you did - cozy wood fires, grandchild and animals! All good. You are welcome to come back any time. I look forward to hosting a return visit.

Great cabin and backroads!!

I just wanted to thank you for the cabin, muffins, generator help, etc. We had a great time riding the backroads in the area. We rode about 350 miles on Fri/Sat. The cabin was even better than expected. We saw deer and turkeys while out. No elk, but since we were on motorcycles, that was fine! I think we will pass on WV for awhile and start heading over your way. I will be in touch for our next trip! Thanks again, Dave
Owner's Response: 350 miles on motercycles....! Wow. Impressive. I'm glad you had a good time. Hopefully the elk will be out and about for your next trip to the Pennsylvania Wilds. Thanks for staying at Cedarwood Lodge!

Enjoyable Week

We stayed at the cabin from September 10th-17th. The cabin was clean, and cozy. The bread and banana bread was enjoyable and appreciated. Really nice spot to take dogs.
The cabin is located right below Rt 153, close enough that you can see the tractor trailers through the trees and the noise was very very loud. At night it really dampened the peacefulness of the cabin. And pulling off of the cabin lane onto Rt 153 was very dangerous, but the owner warns you of the dangers which was appreciated, take her warning seriously.
The property surrounding the cabin was very nice, and the whole wild area is amazing. Highly suggest driving the Quehanna Highway-saw deer, elk, bear and many others. No wildlife seen anywhere near the cabin, except for chipmunks!

Owner's Response: I'm glad these guests enjoyed their stay for all the reasons they list.

Through the years, it has been common for our guests to see deer, turkey, fox, porcupine, racoons, rabbits, squirrels and an occasional bear wandering around the forest and walking through the yard by the cabin but when these creatures make their appearance is up to them. It would not be surprising if the two dogs accompanying the guests were a cause for wildlife choosing to remain out of sight.

The cabin sits on eight forested acres that are 2/10ths of a mile off State Route 153. It is not possible to see the cabin looking down the hill from Rt. 153 nor is traffic on 153 visible on the property itself except at the top of the driveway gazing left and part way up the hill behind the cabin. If one looks closely from those vantage points, one can see flashes & bits of movement through the trees as traffic travels on Route 153. The density of the forest (which is between the property and Rt. 153) behind the cabin and the fire ring can be seen in the pictures on this listing. There is no through traffic in front of the cabin as the lane leading to the property dead ends in the state forest just a short distance past it.

Route 153 is a scenic two-lane road that winds through the Moshannon State Forest. Part of the scenic elk tour, Rt. 153 provides a panorama of beautiful landscapes but it is also a main means of travel into the heart of the PA Wilds. Because of its location just 4 miles north of I-80 the cabin is very accessible. Cabin guests have easy access to the state parks, the elk herd, and the amenities of near-by towns while the property, surrounded as it is by 184,000 acres of state forest provides an "out in the middle of nowhere" setting. When outside, there is intermittent road noise as well as times of near silence, broken only by the sound of wind through the trees, singing of birds, and crackling of the fire if one has been made. Insulation, thermal windows and doors block out nearly all outside sounds when inside the cabin.

Family Retreat

This was the perfect spot for our family weekend retreat! We found it by searching the internet for a location midway between our homes in Eastern Ohio and Eastern PA. We were delighted when we arrived and found it to be everything we had expected. It was a blessing that we could bring our little dog with us. It truly was like a home away from home. We had such a good experience that we will definitely be returning for another family get-together.

Peggy was so pleasant and helpful. She even provided us fresh baked bread the first day!

We all enjoyed walking on the the trails right from the cabin. The large dining table provided us with ample space for family board games. So, rain or shine, we could just enjoy the beauty of nature and the joys of family time together.

We were in from Abilene,TX and my parents from Fayetteville,NC for 2 glorious weeks of PA. Saw the pictures on the internet and the cabin was exactly what we saw. Most places aren't. We were all very pleased and will definitely be back. The drives were beautiful and the animals at night were amazing. The Elk were majestic, and hearing a young bull bellow near the cabin was an amazing experience. No problems with anything, and having a cleaning lady twice a week was nice. Everyone was very polite and wonderful. Only problem, wish there was a set of stairs to the upper loft. The ladder/cubby at top, not very friendly for the disabled, but my husband didn't care after seeing the view from the top.
Thanks for a fabulous vacation!!

Would Stay Again

We picked this property because it is centrally located between our two sons for a meeting place over the 4th of July weekend. One drove in from Michigan and the other from Baltimore. They really loved this spot. My husband (& me) and our dog loved it, too. We were happy with the seclusion, the hiking trail right out our back door and we couldn't have done it without the fire pit. That was the family spot every night to relax, catch up with one another and make some s'mores.

Great cabin in the perfect spot and pet friendly!

I came across this cabin by chance when trying to plan a last minute getway to meet our friends from New Jersey. Being 6 hours apart and only having a weekend time was in essence!! So we needed to find a place in the middle and quick...not to mention the fact that I have two dogs and they had 1. I found this place...a half way point for the four of us and our dogs. It was perfect. Easy to find, great amenities, lots of things to do in the area, and availalble!!! The owner was more than pleasant to deal with and the coffee cake and homemade bread that was given was delicious. I must say our favorite part of the vacation was just sitting by the fire, or playing some games in the front lawn and sitting on the back porch playing some of our favorite board games. It was a great weekend and we were happy that we were able to find it! I definately would recommend this place, and hopefully plan to "meet" there again soon!!

Owner's Response: I was happy that the two nights you needed....were the two nights that were available. Our goal is to always have the cabin ready to fit in last minute requests when there are gaps between reservations. Glad it worked out for you....and for us! Thanks, Kat, for coming and we look forward to your next visit.

Surprise 30th Birthday Present - Nine years later!

Submitted: June 13, 2010 Stayed: February 2010
"What an incredibly relaxing vacation, truly allowing us to "recharge our batteries". As a surprise 30th birthday present, I was so excited to learn (on our 5 1/2 hour drive) we would be arriving at Cedarwood Lodge! Nine years ago I surprised (my then fiance) Jason by bringing him here prior to his departure with his Marine unit.

This truly is the perfect place to get back to basics and enjoy the company of those you love. No TV, no computers, and blackberrys turned off, we enjoyed each other's company without any distractions!

We happily embraced the additional 2 feet of snow that fell from Thursday to Saturday. We loved relaxing just watching the snow fall and going hiking through the gorgeous snow-covered trails. Sledding was beyond a highlight of the trip!

We are grateful for the reliable and frequent snow plow that insured (if we wanted) we could get out and about. Hardly having the desire to leave the comforts of this cabin, two places we did greatly enjoy: Starr Winery and the "Real" DENNY'S (featured in Man vs. Food!)

As in 2001, thank you for your home-like relaxing accommodations, incredible baked bread, and stress-free get away! This was the best surprise birthday present I could ever ask for...."

With gratitude from Solarno, NJ

"Having grown up in the surrounding area we were excited to find the Cedarwood Lodge when returning to the U.S. to introduce our baby girl to our families. Two big brothers were excited to have a place where cousins could come to play and eat while the adults snuggled their precious little sister.

We are grateful for the comfortable accommodations and thoughtful touch of a conveniently stocked cabin....complete with fresh baked treats! You go beyond anything we've experienced in other parts of the world!

Thank you for everything!"
