Upon entering the historic farmhouse, the spirit draws you under its spell of 260 years. Just the beautiful location of the house in the driveway with the typical wooden fence, the blue window shutters and the impressive economical division radiate warmth and welcome. With a few steps above the old Kolbingen stream (Beuron monastery), you are in the middle of the old ‘smokehouse kitchen’ - now hallway. This means that there was just open fire for long time. Moreover in smoke, bacon and everything, that was being made for longer time. On the ceiling you will see the original sooty beams, which were hidden under some layers of insulation, wood and chipboards and the carbon-black wall. You can still smell it. Now from inside the lounge! There we found the natural stone wall of 1747 under the old lime plaster - an experience!
The tiled fireplace that was originated and restored from around 1790, exudes the sense of security of a house that has experienced so much. Nevertheless: TV HD full, a extremely well-sounding Bose sound system with docking facility for I-pods. 3D glasses are also present. This entertains you even on rainy days without getting bored. Selected Blue-Ray DVDs and CDs are all available in good quality. Your pet will definitely enjoy the fresh bed including the blanket. In the romantic, spacious country kitchen, the former workshop (extended in 1900), you can comfortably seat your self at the long, wooden table, good enough for 7-8 persons by candlelight late into the night and talk. Also you will find all the utensils to be enchanted by a good kitchen. Crockery for 12 persons, coffee cups for 12 persons, peasant ceramics for coffee, forest bacon rolls, plenty of pots, various mixers etc., cutlery for 24 persons and an induction plate (You will not miss any new equipment) are available. The microwave comes handy, if you want to cook faster.
Right next to the kitchen you enter into the loggia, i.e. a covered (formerly: economic) passage equipped with large grill. Comfortable with table and chairs for at least 6 persons, with a view of greenery behind the independent house and view of the outdoor Jacuzzi inside the garden in barrel shape. Enjoy sitting in the Jacuzzi on warm summer evenings, or in the winter with snow all around (it is simply wonderful in hot or cold water) without being seen from the outside.
Unwind and enjoy: surrounded by rose petals and candlelight, do not miss a glass of champagne! All through the day sun wanders from room to room illuminating all around your home. Some times you can sit in front of the house in the evenings, sometimes in the loggia with a fur coat and wrapped in a warm blanket to finish the day with wine and cheese from the local produce.
Another surprise right from the house entrance: the sty-bath! A small sauna, where once a sty was housed, a luxurious, large shower (former calf shed) tiled with natural pebbles, a freestanding bathtub with lion’s feet from Alsace nearby! All this is waiting to be used. And above all, you can see an entire broad side of the unchanged, historic barn with the manger, wooden shutters for feeding hay, as well as the drinking troughs of the cows and goats which were living here. Also, the wooden floorboards are unchanged, but cleaned! You reach the bedroom over the well-trodden wooden stairs - secured at nights with illuminating LED spotlights. A shower / toilet (former threshing floor) and the romantic reading corner, where you can pull yourself back between old beams and the last rays of the sun is found there. Above the stairs hang 'little horns', that is of various antlers, illuminated with warm light. The first room has a double bed with extra thick mattress for heavenly sleep with designer chairs, country house mirrors and paintings (also infrared heating) of a young artist. A graceful, antique wardrobe and great atmosphere. If required, there is a white iron crib available. The second bedroom has space for three persons. And even self-designed wooden beds, as in the first bedroom, are waiting to give a sound sleep. An old wooden chest, floor lamp etc. bring out fresh flair. Even in small shower / toilet you will find everything needed to feel at home here.
At the very back of the building is the garage attached.
Please note: 2m high ceiling inside the house!
And all around you can expect to have love, friendly neighbours.
Well, we had guests from Israel who were so excited that they instantly photographed the house and inventory and the lady was a writer and designer for architects worldwide and designer blog busyboo - we also ended up with a very nice report in that respect - Take a look at it! (Check website link)
