Accessible only by ferry boat, the island is a step back in time from the hustle and bustle of the big cities nearby. Visit the lighthouse, or go beach- combing (the closest public beach is just two miles away). Enjoy kayaking (rentals are available), fishing, or diving. Enjoy biking on our hilly roads. Play golf. Or walk half a mile to a restaurant or movie in the village.
This is a great equestrian island, with lots of trails. Horse rentals are available.
Enjoy shopping for antiques, art, and local crafts.
As Sojourn House guests, you can use the Vashon Island Golf and Country Club for swimming, dining, tennis, and golf.
West Seattle is a 15 minute ferry ride away via the car ferries. During commuter hours there is a 30 minute passenger-only ferry service into downtown Seattle. You can catch a Metro Bus into Seattle if you'd like to leave your car at the house.
The excellent Point Defiance Zoo (in Tacoma) is within walking distance of the 'South End' ferry, and a 10 minute ferry ride. Our 4th ferry accessible destination is a 10 minute ride to Southworth on the Olympic Peninsula.
Day trips are possible to three ski areas: Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, Stevens Pass, and Snoqualmie Pass. Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helen's, the Olympic Mountains, Hurricane Ridge, and the Hoh Rainforest are all great day trips. Explore Seattle. Go to the opera or a sports event. Fabulous theater and music. One family even went to Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island in one day; but that is a pretty long day!
