Our family vacation

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a wonderful vacation. The grand kids loved the lake and it was perfect for young children. We had a fantastic week everyone had a great time. The only complaint we had was the sofa beds in the basement. They were not comfortable. But everything else was great. The other bedrooms were very nice. We would certainly stay here again.
Owner's Response: We plan to replace the sofa bed with another bed at the end of this rental season.

Smith Mountain Lake Rental Review

Review Submitted: June 18, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The location was awesome and was great for the kids to swim and play in the water without worrying about boat traffic. The two docks with covered boat slip worked out nicely for our pontoon boat and fishing off the dock was fun for the kids. The house itself was a decent three bedroom house but could use some updates like functional lighting at the dock and updated furniture and kitchen appliances. Be sure to check with the owner on the condition of the fourth bedroom as it is really an unfinished basement with block walls and a concrete pad floor with a couple of old sleeper sofas. We had to alter our plans to have friends from Roanoke stay over until we saw the basement. It was musty and damp and we did not consider it a suitable sleeping area as we have family members and friends with allergies and asthma. In our opinion, this house should be listed as a three bedroom that sleeps 6; 4 adults and 2 children; with an optional fourth sleeping area as opposed to a four bedroom that sleeps 8.

Smith Mountain Lake Retreat

My family and I have rented this house several times in the past 8 years and we enjoy the location. The location is just minutes to the SML Dam by boat and a very short drive to the D-Day Memorial, grocery store and many other places for sightseers. It's quiet, nice neighbors, and has a nice play area with a sand box for small children between the docks. The new dock is awesome. The house is very comfortable, has a great deck and the kids love the ping-pong and air hockey tables. It offers many amenities that makes the stay comfortable also.

Peace & Quiet

ZP Cape May, NJ, USA
Review Submitted: May 13, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
My family and I stayed at this home in May for my college graduation which was in Lynchburg. It was a very refreshing trip for my parents and grandparents; they really enjoyed the peace and quiet. I myself enjoyed the "vacation" as well although I have to admit I was a little too afraid and sketched out to sleep on the sofa bed in the basement. If only it was in the living room! I'm just afraid of spiders. But the other rooms were nice and it was really convenient to have the 2.5 bathrooms. My dad and my husband really enjoyed fishing at the lake and the rest of us really enjoyed the view. We also visited a winery nearby (would have visited more but ran out of time). We would definitely want to visit this area again.

It was clean, the description was accurate (although it says there's a lot of new stuff but most of the house seemed kind of outdated). The owner was very nice to work with and I would surely recommend this property to a friend. There is also a restaurant in the community that had very yummy food.
Owner's Response: We used to keep a sleep sofa in the living room. Should we move it back?? There is no need to worry about spiders, we have a pest control company spray the home, inside and out, every month year around. There are many good restaurants, my favorite is Chopsticks at Halesford Bridge and Vieras. Also, the nearest winery about 5 miles distance, Hickory Hill, has won awards for their wines. All types of water sports/activities occur most of the year. We have the best rental prices at the lake because my wife and I live nearby our vacation rental home and accomplish all the work both managing and maintenance. We take pride in our vacation home and our goal to please our customers. If you return in the future, you get a "happy returning customer" 5% discount on the base rent.

WISH WE COULD HAVE STAYED LONGER

7 of us ventured to Virginia for our daughters gradutation at Liberty University. We found house to be more than charming, like a step back in time. 3 of us are 'baby boomers' so the decor reminded us of family vacations when we were young. No cable needed here at all. There is so much to do and explore down there, we wish we had had time to do it. we are seriously thinking about returning to take advantage of the fishing, boating, hiking, wine tasting tours and many other activites the area has to offer.
fanatic place to enjoy some quality family time together!!!!! also great for a girls or guys get away!!
Owner's Response: We appreciate your unique comments, thank you. My wife and I do all of the rental management and maintenance and take pride in having a clean vacation home for our customers. Come enjoy our vacation home anytime and enjoy a 5% discount on the current rent for returning customers as described on my website.

August, 2007. We have been vacationing at Smith Mountain Lake for 5 years now, and have spent the last 3 at the Theis' home, and I can't say enough about it! The cove is peaceful, and great for swimming! The access into and out of the water is great for little ones, or (as our golden can attest to) dogs alike. The covered slip is perfect for tying up the boat or spending the afternoon by the water without getting too much sun! The creek isn't busy, which makes it perfect for tubing/waterskiing/kayaking, especially with children. The house is comfortable and has everything needed for a relaxing family vacation, including ping pong and air hockey! Thanks again for another great vacation. Hope we can make it for 2 weeks next summer!

The 2 weeks we have spent here in July were very relaxing. We had our grandchildren here for 4 days and the cove was ideal for them for swimming. If you have young children, this is the perfect place for you, away from the main traffic on the lake yet readily accessible for all areas. The owners are wonderful and will listen to any recommendations you make, saw this first hand, as Warren was adding a light to the deck as recommended by the previous renters. Will definitely consider renting this getaway again.

This is a very roomy and comfortable house with a spectacular view of the lake. We stayed for six days at Christmas 2006 and were fortunate to have several days of sunny, 60 degree weather. We had our meals as well as afternoon coffee each of these days on the back deck overlooking the lake and felt it was a bonus that we had not counted on in Christmas season.

There is plenty of room for a family or several groups of people to spread out in the house and a TV set in almost every room. My wife found the kitchen spacious and well-appointed and we enjoyed the proximity of the home to the state park. Also had some nice walks beside the golf course back up to the main road.

This is a first-class rental and a value at the price.

July 2006 We had a great time at sml. Your house is very cozy and peacful, being in a cove our children had a great time swimming and fishing off of the dock. This is the first vacation we have had that when we got home we actually felt like we had a vacation. I cant wait for next year and hopefully be able to enjoy 2 weeks instead of 1. Thanks again!!!!
