Cherry Beech Getaway over New Years 2012/2013

Cherry Beech Getaway over New Years 2012/2013

On our recent ski vacation up to the Harbor Springs area the wife, two teenage children and I stayed at the Cherry Beech Getaway over the New Years holiday.

Pros:
Home was nice and comfy.
Literally minutes from ski slopes (Nubs and Boyne Highlands).
Kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and utensils and very clean.
Layout was very accommodating allowing group gatherings in kitchen and living room, privacy in the bedrooms if wanted
Game room looked nice (but we didn't use)
New carpet and furniture was very nice. Many antique pieces give the home a great feel.
Close to Harbor Springs and Petoskey which was nice for choices with shopping and restaurants
New Years was great! We could see fireworks from the kitchen.

Cons:
Driveway snow covered and icy - mid way through our stay, driveway was cleaned but was already too packed down and icy to be effectively cleared.
Requested white wine in our gift package, received red - not a real show stopper but we don't do red wine so it was a bit disappointing,
Bathrooms had cobwebs and hair on walls. Looked like walls were wiped with a dirty towel leaving hair behind. Took 15 minutes to handle but would liked to have seen a better cleaning in the bathrooms.

We've stayed at a number of homes in the area over the years and this was one of the nicest. I'd give it a 4/5 rating, would recommend to friends, and would return for another ski trip.

Follow-up: After posting the original review I was contacted by the owner thanking me for the feedback (pro and con) and informing me of the steps being taken to rectify the bathroom issue stated above. Frankly I couldn't ask for more. Everyone has issues with cleaning companies and contractors from time to time. One thing I didn't post earlier was the fact that the owners were great to work with. Their follow-up just shows how important our stay was to them. They offered a discount on our next stay to compensate for the couple of minor issues we had. I would not hesitate to stay here again and plan to do so if I can. I upgraded my rating to 5 stars based on their quick response to rectify the issues.

Nice NYE Get Away

We stayed for 4 nights over New Years. Very convenient 2 minute drive to Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob. Also close to the snowmobile trails. Owner Pam was very responsive and got back to us very quickly when we had questions. Home is exactly as pictured on this site. The game room was an added bonus as the snow had disappeared after day 2 of arriving. Would definately recommend to others and will use again in the future.

Snow sport get away

We came with my teenage kids, sister and niece. We were 5 minutes from Boyne Highlands so the kids could drive themselves back and forth as needed. We really liked the skiing and staff. We also could walk to the local convenient store. Having the dogs with us was a real treat. The house was clean and well equiped for the visit. (Towels/dishes/blankets, etc..) It looks just like the pictures. Plenty of hot water for the 7 of us. Would have liked internet, but not necessary. The owners were easy to work with for reservations. Also, spent a day on the trails nearby with rented snowmobiles! Great area for that. We would rent here again and have recommended the house. The restaurant up the street was good but overpriced.

Very Enjoyable Week

The cottage is located in a wooded rural area, in a neighborhood with several quiet streets. Downtown Harbor Springs is a five-mile drive, just a few minutes away.

There were four of us: Mom, Dad, adult daughter, and adult son. (Plus our four-year-old cockapoo.) The bedroom situation was ideal; daughter and son each had a private room. Kitchen was well-equipped, and the "Welcome" bottle of wine provided by the cottage owners was a nice touch. We used the kitchen to fix dinner three of the six nights we stayed. The IGA market in Harbor Springs had a good selection of groceries, and
the gas grill made meal prep a breeze.

The other nights we ate out: Stafford's Pier in Harbor Springs, the Chippewa Hotel on Mackinac Island, and the Legs Restaurant in Cross Village. All were stellar; there is certainly no dearth of excellent dining establishments in northern lower Michigan.

As stated, we took a day trip to Mackinac Island. The cottage is approximately a half hour's drive from the piers in Mackinaw City and the boat ride is slightly under 20 minutes, making this a convenient trip. We also made a trip to St. Ignace at our son's request, so as to cross the Mackinac Bridge; despite having grown up in Michigan, neither of the kids had ever been to the U.P.

We went to the Thursday night handbell concert in nearby Bay View. Mom had participated in this annual event as a bell ringer the previous nine years, but was pleased to be in the audience this time, just to watch and listen.

High marks are certainly in order overall. The property is clean and well-maintained. Mom booked the reservation and had pleasant interactions with the owners. (Dad is writing the review.) Fortunately for us, the dog behaved well, and our deposit was quickly refunded in full.

I would recommend this property without qualification.

This was the perfect location for our vacation as we took many day trips to nearby cities Petsokey, Charlevoix, Indian River and Mackinaw Island. This home was very comfortable and clean. We also enjoyed the game room when we were not traveling. Our favorite eating spot was in downtown Harbor Springs 'Dudley's Deck' with a view of the Harbor (food was excellent too!).

We had a great time and the rental property could not have been nicer. It was very clean and well maintained. The combination of the large outdoor deck in the wooded back yard and comfortable temperatures made for a relaxing stay. The owner was very accommodating and we look forward to staying there again next year.

Had a wonderful time in Michigan and also at this house. The owners have a terrific home that was comfortable, cozy, and in a great location. We had a wedding to attend in Petoskey and it was just a few minutes away. Sunsets were gorgeous along the coastline that was also a few minutes away. We'd love to come back up during ski season!!!

Great Ski location

Submitted: February 25, 2009 Stayed: February 2009
Our family enjoyed our stay very much. The location is great if you're interested in skiing at Boyne Highland, Nubs Nob or both (which we did). You're no more than a couple minute drive from the entrance to both resorts. The house was comfortable, with plenty of room. The owners did a great job of making sure we were comfortable - I even got a call from the owner the day we were heading up north to make sure the driveway was plowed for us upon our arrival. I was very impressed by this gesture.
