Third time—yep, a charm. For the first time, we hit not-perfect weather, and you know what? It didn’t matter. The weather there changes often: a rainy morning will burst into sun, ending with an incredible sunset. But if it does rain cats and dogs all day so that getting lost in the incredibly interesting side roads and trails is not a preferred option, “Mettawee” offers perfect calm amid the storm: swim in the pool; try that new recipe in the fully equipped kitchen (there are spices and herbs in the pantry, but visit the gift shop at the Lincoln home Hildene, which has spice/herb blends to shorten your prep time); play some table tennis; relax in the family room with a DVD, CD, book, or game (your own or from the Mettawee collection); get back in the pool. All the while, the floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room area--this large space also has two couches--offer views of wild creatures going about their business and of Dorset Mountain, which flirts shamelessly through any rolling fog. EVERYTHING CLEAN. And the half bath with direct access to the pool is just one example of the perfect layout of the house. MANAGER: CHARLES, THE BEST. And the convivial White Dog restaurant is right down the road, where owners Tom (great bartender) and Lisa (fantastic chef) will see that you are well fed and happy.

A perfect weekend at Mettawee for a girls weekend getaway. A large, spacious house, yet cozy and comfortable with something for everyone. We relaxed by the fire, swam in the pool, watched the snow come down as we looked out at the beautiful mountain. The birds have their own little haven here between the trees, the feeders and the little houses above the garage. Up on a hill and secluded by trees, yet open and airy with wide open fields and mountains to gaze upon through all the windows that make the house light and airy, yet very cozy, private and comfortable. We had a wonderful time just hanging out here without much desire to go anyplace else. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. It gives you whatever you are looking for in a vacation; peace and quiet by the fire or party fun and music by the pool. Very clean, very comfy, very cool. Perfect. Thank you so much. JH

We had a group of 9...this was our second week long trip to Vermont. While we enjoyed our previous vacation, we absolutely LOVED our time here. The photos do not do this home justice. The pool is phenomenal and gave us hours of fun. We cooked wonderful meals in the gourmet kitchen. We enjoyed spending a leisurly morning over coffee while watching the birds and soaking in the amazing views of the hills, valleys and mountains. It truly is soul cleansing. There were an abundance of clean fluffy towels, clean comfy sheets, tons of pillows and comfy blankets. This home is on truly beautiful property. We enjoyed exploring outside and had the added bonus of being able to watch a little snow storm from the floor to ceiling windows...while we were warm and comfy of course. I would highly recommend this home to others (and have already!). We already are planning a return visit. Thanks so much for the opportunity to enjoy your lovely home!!!

We had enjoyed (loved!) a week at Mettawee in the spring of this year and were lucky enough to return in time to experience the fall season’s beauty. What a treat, to view the evolving character of the hills and dales surrounding this beautiful home: lasting lush green now joined by vibrant red/yellow/orange and purple majesty. Our explorations took us farther from the main roads, and in addition to nature’s vistas, we discovered yet more interesting people with tales to tell (some bottling their own maple syrup) and small general stores (carrying assortments of local fare, including fantastic black-bean burgers and organic beef burgers, frozen ready for the grill). We can’t say enough about the home itself, the comfort and amenities it offers. The only problem ever encountered was managing to fit everything we wanted to do into a day, because something unexpected would always temptingly present itself as we roamed.

The property: This is a great home, perfectly laid out, with fantastically equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, clean pool, luxuriating deck, cozy den, long dining table with fantastic view. The setting is secluded without being isolated.

The manager: We have never needed assistance, but know that if we did, it would be provided immediately by the attentive and kind (and humorous) Charles.

Looking forward to future times in Mettawee!

We spent a glorious week watching spring explode.
The pool is a dream. The outdoor patio/decks provide sun and shade. The quiet is angel-sent. The sky full of stars.
We saw bountiful birds enjoying the property's feeders and birdbath (on or next to the decks), and deer crossing the back lawns/fields below the beautiful Dorset mountain. The coyotes remained hidden from us but we heard their song late one night.
The trees secured our privacy on the road side (the lane is quite long and the road not busy), making us feel far from civilization.
House is clean. The beds (we used) comfortable. The upstairs bedrooms are large enough and closet space and drawers are more than ample. The view from the double-bedroom’s large window was incredible every morning.
The master suite’s view through sliding-glass doors is of the pool, the decks, and the green meadows beyond. The kitchen is well equipped. The laundry room handy. The pool was a delicious 80 degrees F whenever we swam and was well maintained.
Late at night, the family room was a great cozy place to watch DVDs with surround sound.
We were pleasantly surprised to find so much to see in Manchester to the south and Rutland to the north and all the hills and dales between. If you like history, don't miss Hildene, Lincoln family home, in Manchester: the home, its gardens, its trails, its gift shop. If you need something from a WalMart, it will be an enjoyable task: you head north to Rutland's downtown historic district with its restored architecture starting from the late 1800s. (The house has a Vermont guidebook and a personal notebook of favorites that got us started. There is a large grocery store in both Manchester and Rutland, so shopping fits into a day's excursion north or south. Country store right in Danby for basics and sandwiches.)
We plan on returning to enjoy the comforts of this eco-friendly home and to continue to search out the hidden attractions of the area.
Yes, we will definitely recommend this home to friends (but only those friends who promise us first booking rights)!

What a beautiful home, better than the pics....Didnt get to use the pool but my nephews spent the whole weekend in it. We only left once, the house was so comfortable we just eat and drank the weekend away. I hope to get back in the summer. Our time went by to fast, none of us wanted to go home.

We had a TOP NOTCH visit at this home for my sister's 50th Birthday! Large/Clean/Nicely Decorated. The beds comfortable, the bedding clean. My son has never slept so much (I'm sure the pool had a lot to do with that!). The indoor pool, WOW! Even larger than ever expected. The kids had a great sleigh riding hill as well with plenty of sleds in the garage. The kitchen MORE than well-quipped! Beautiful views from the kitchen and we would all love to come back in the Summer and sit outside. If you are looking to spend quality time with your people, this is the place!!! Thank you for above and beyond our expectations!
