Extended family vacation for 16

We vacationed at this site renting both units for a week for our extended family on my husband's side of the family. There were 16 of us staying in the 2 units total. We enjoyed the beauty of the spot and the accomodations were okay with a couple of exceptions. The downstairs bedrooms have to be entered outside of the main houses and they have separate a/c units which do not cool the daybed rooms and bath adequately. We really counted on the use of these 2 beds and it caused us an inconvenience in bedding 16. The rooms were just too hot to sleep in and the bathrooms were miserable. If your group does not require the use of these rooms, then the accomodations are adequate. We have stayed in houses before where we were much closer to the beach. This site requires that you drive and find parking to go to the beach, which was a hassle. The pool is very small but enjoyable for a couple of folks at a time. We really enjoyed all of the outdoor tables and covered area below the decks near the pool. We were there during extremely hot weather so the issues with the downstairs units would be not be so severe in cooler weather. All in all we had a good time and might consider using this spot agin in the future if the downstairs a/c situation in remedied.
Owner's Response: Our guests in this unusually hot weather let us know that we needed more a/c coverage so we have a it!

This is a lagoon-front house, with wonderful waterfront views, fishing, a pier and a pool. It is a half mile from the main public beach area with all of the benefits of off-the-beach pricing. We also have several houses that are closer to the beach and priced relative to their proximity so you can pick the one that meets your needs and budget!

We were very happy with this home. There were a group of 13 of us (couples and kids) so we rented both sides. I would say the main reason we choose this house was for the pool (we knew we'd have down time away from beach) so it was GREAT entertainment for the kids. We'd wish the beach was closer, but with all the stuff we had to bring with us we'd driven anyways. It was very nice still seeing the lagoon side with the fishing deck, the men took full advantage of it.

The house was very clean and nice, it had all the necessary items in bathrooms, laundry and kitchen so all we needed was to buy food. The only advice i'd give to owner is the bottom level a/c unit is NOT big enough for the entire downstairs...only big enough for the bedroom it was in. It was very uncomfortable taking shower and getting ready while sweating from being so hot. If i had known before I would have packed a couple of fans.

Overall, we were happy and would forsure recommend this house to family and friends!!
Owner's Response: We love it when families enjoy our house, and when they take time to let us know what can be better! The bottom level is new this year, and now that we know, the AC will be upgraded before these guests come back next summer. Thanks!

GREAT Family Vacation

Opa John Hudsonville MI
Review Submitted: April 18, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Overall, this was the best family place for a vacation we could ever have hoped for. Having both sides of the duplex allowed us 6 bedrooms, and with 13 people found ourselves with plenty of space as well as meeting room.
The 'left' side has a nicer living/dining area, and we ate dinner together every night. What a treat to laugh and love with those you hold so dear. Breakfast always ended up being made in the 'right' unit, and although there is a shortage of quality cooking gear on both sides, we made do and even purchased som extra utensils that we left.
One more thing we felt could have been better was the grilling equipment. While we figured on purchasing coals and lighter fluid, there was no cleaning brush and the grills were aging and rickety. While on the subject of shortcomings, there was only one working VCR and coffee pot and many light bulbs were burned out. We changed some bulbs and worked around the other issues.
The location protected us from the high winds that were so prevelant at the beach that week, and we could not have had that any nicer. The pool did not get as much use as we hoped, but the kids loved the ledge on which they could play. The dock found us fishing every day, sometimes with success but always with great memories and the opportunity to build relationships. We put everything we caught back, including the one armed crab. The kids loved every minute there too.
We walked numerous places, and the ice cream shop, the zoo and the beach are all within range (at most one mile).

The vacations was as good as we could have hoped for, and a lot of that success was because of the wonderful place we stayed.

We stayed in early June 2008. The house was perfect for us. The pool was nice to have for the kids, and the fishing pier was wonderful. The house was very clean and everything we expected (and more) based on the advertisement. Highly recommended and we will return. The location is also great...very close to beach, fresh seafood market, restaurants, water park, and Walmart.

My family (a total of 15) rented both sides of the duplex for one week and had a great time! It is close to everything so we could walk to dinner, the beach, the waterpark, etc. The kids all had a GREAT time in the pool which is just the right size for little ones. They also enjoyed catching crabs with the cages you provide. The living quarters are very nice and spacious. It will be REALLY nice for a large family like ours when you get the 3rd bedrooms finished on the lower level. The owners were VERY helpful in answering all of our questions and giving us ideas/suggestions for our stay. If we ever return to the Gulf Shores area, we will definitely rent this duplex again. VERY quiet, relaxing, and enjoyable for all. THANKS for a great and affordable vacation. :-)

My husband, my mother, 3 granddaughters and myself stayed in the left side of this property. Everything was clean, neat, and the view from both decks is awesome - all day - but especially early morning and late evening. There is a lot of activity with people canoeing, fishing, etc. on the lagoon. The gulls, pelicans, cranes and ducks keep you entertained too. The kids loved the pool. We could sit on the pool ledge or relax in a lounge chair and enjoy watching the kids play in the water. My mom and the kids loved the hammock under the lower deck. There is an open area for grilling with ceiling fans and a screened room with seating and a table under the lower deck. There is also a laundry at the other end of the screened room in another area. There is a gas grill which we did not use. We called in our food orders to Cici's or the Shrimp Basket, picked it up and just enjoyed not having to cook or grill. We had plenty of towels and hot water. The 1/2 bath on the main living area was very convenient for the kids. There is a sandy area along the pool and pier area for kids to play, if they like. We used that very little since the kids got enough sand play at the beach. Best things about this place - it is on a quiet, dead end street (no traffic); Hardee's 1/2 block away; beach is walking distance or a two minute drive; Oyster House and Shrimp Basket only about two minutes away, as is the area shopping. This place is peaceful but close to everything, and has the pool to keep the kids entertained when you don't want to be at the beach. The deck is gated and the pool will be gated for kids safety. The pier is nice too. We had a really good experience here. Except for the unloading and loading our car when we arrived and left - everything was relaxing and fun.
